I would have explained to the pt that asthma is an inflammatory disease The lining of the airways swells up and the only way to control that is by regular use of her brown, steroid inhaler. She's a sensible adult and shouldn't struggle to grasp this. Can then go into more detail if she asks questions. My patients like knowing what's going on, improves adherence.

She should have told her to brush teeth after using the steroid inhaler to avoid thrush & also help with remembering.
