The Sphinx on the insignia may have come from the 30th Cambridgeshire Regiment of Foot when it was amalgamated with the 2/59th Nottinghamshire Regiment during the Childers Reforms. The regiment was later associated with east Lancashire. The Badge is honoring the ancestral regiment's participation in the Battle of Alexandria in 1801. That's the same battle where the 28th Regiment gained the moniker of "the Turnabouts" and the honor of wearing a small badge on the back of their shakos.

Nice horse decoration. The Shire is an old breed of horse that was called a "cart horse" until the mid 19th century, when the name Shire horse came into use. A breed society was started in the late 19th century. Their numbers dropped in the mid 20th century, and Clydesdale's were bred in to help save the breed, which had come to very low numbers. The breed is increasing again, but is still considered an "at risk" breed.

Unbelievable day for you, John. So many Georgian coins and found so quickly, well done. That cap badge from the Egypt campaign in WWII is stellar. If someone lost that they may have been heartbroken, that was a particularly brutal bit of desert fighting against the Nazi's. The soldiers who survived that were incredibly brave, each being a true hero for the Allies. That is a tremendous field.

Some interesting information about that cap badge. Nice finds John 😁👍🏻 hopefully see you on the road this season as I found an absolutely belter if a find last week I would like to tell you about 😁 all the best, Ryan The East Lancashire Regiment was, from 1881 to 1958, an infantry regiment of the British Army. The regiment was formed under the Childers Reforms by the amalgamation of two 30th and 59th Regiments of Foot with the militia and rifle volunteer units of eastern Lancashire. Following a series of mergers since 1958, its lineage is today continued by the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. The 1st Battalion was formed from the 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot (raised in 1702) and the 2nd Battalion from the 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot (raised 1755). Under the system introduced in 1881, one battalion of each infantry regiment was to serve at a home station while the other was in a foreign garrison or on active service. Due to the emergency caused by the outbreak of war in South Africa in 1899 most home service battalions were dispatched to the conflict. The size of the regiment was increased during the conflict, reaching a total of 17 battalions. The Accrington Pals, officially the 11th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment, was a pals battalion of Kitchener's Army raised in and around the town of Accrington. Recruiting was initiated by the mayor of Accrington following Lord Kitchener's call for volunteers, and it took only ten days to raise a complete battalion. The battalion's nickname is a little misleading since of the four 250-strong companies that made up the original battalion, only one was actually composed of men from Accrington. The rest volunteered from other East Lancashire towns nearby such as Burnley, Blackburn, and Chorley. The men from Chorley, who formed Y Company, were known as the Chorley Pals. The men from Burnley, who formed Z Company, were known as the Burnley Pals. When the two regiments of foot merged in 1881, new badges were designed. The headdress badge selected for the centre of the full dress helmet was a sphinx upon a plinth inscribed "EGYPT". The sphinx had been awarded to the 30th Foot in 1802 to mark its participation in repelling the French invasion of Egypt The collar badge selected was the Red Rose of Lancaster to mark the regiment's county affiliation. In 1897 a khaki uniform featuring a slouch hat was introduced, and a metal cap badge was devised for each regiment or corps. The badge of the East Lancs was the sphinx and "Egypt" above the rose, the whole enclosed within a laurel wreath topped by a crown. The laurel wreath had formed part of the insignia of the 59th Foot. A scroll inscribed "EAST LANCASHIRE" at the base of the badge completed the design. This design of cap badge was maintained for the rest of the regiment's existence, subject to changes in the style of crown, and was worn on the later service dress and battle dress uniforms

@@thescottishdetectorist Cheers John, I've been very quiet lately had a 4 day tours start of December then a few days after that covering two days on the buses with my old company Timberbush whilst they all had their works doo down in ED, Off to Skye this Sunday which should be fun as the weather looks a wee bit dodgy 🤣 It's been nice to have some down time and spending a lot of time in the fields with the detector finding some great coins, found just over 40 coins in one small area on one permission and around 10 silvers I think which has been amazing one is a stunning Queen Victoria Silver Florin and looks like it was dropped yesterday absolutely stunning coin, I usually keep them in the van to show the tourist so if I see you out and about I'll show you if you have a minute. 👍🏻 I am off to Elgin on February 24th to hand that very special find in, I'm hoping it will end up in the museum 😁 put it this way it's about 3 and half thousand years old 😁👍🏻👍🏻 I'll show you some photos when I see you. Take care and hope to bump into you at some point for a wee chat. All the best Ryan.

Here in the southeastern US there are few places where the Colonial (GIII) coins are the extant to find. The eastern seaboard is the best for really old stuff (metal). Cap badge is a stunner!! I'm in Maryland right outside D.C. First Brits landed 1634. The only 17th century stuff I've ever seen are George II and George III. The Shire is a very famous British breed. I can understand why you would call a Clysdale a Shire. Shire is probably the only draught horse you've ever seen. I work part time on a 70 acre, 25 horse facility. We just lost our resident draught horse. A 16 hand, 1800 lb. Belgian mare named Juliette. She was my bestest buddy. Had to tear down the wall of her stall to get her out. Broke my heart. Sorry, I digress. Thanks for video. Cheers

Perhaps a young lad gave it to his sweetheart who was a land girl during the war and she wore it every day to pin back her scarf. One day she loses it and is in tears but as she looks up she sees her beloved has returned from the war and he removes his and hands her a new one to replace her treasure. Later she wore it on her wedding day as something borrowed and something new.@@thescottishdetectorist

Reference the cap badge John..during WW1 the 11th Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment (Accrington Pals) were decimated at Serre during the Battle of the Somme within 30 mins of attacking the German positions. Your cap badge could possibly have belonged to a WW2 serviceman on leave and lost it.

What amazing finds in your new permission! So many coins that date to the home on the site. The artifacts are just stunning. Keep up the great work and yay for a part 2.

There seemed to be a coin on the surface around the 13:00 minute mark find! Left hand side, near the hole.

Amazing video again John. What a great start you’ve had to the year. I have a good feeling that you’ve got an amazing find coming up on one of these new permissions. I’m hardly ever wrong John 🤗👍
