I have a piece of a stale donut that was originally stuck to a copy of action comics #1 but was scraped off. Can I have that piece of stale donut slabbed by cgc as a piece of action comics history?

I remember talking to you about buying single pages of golden age comics a few years ago. I did buy some from Action #1, Superman #1, Batman #1 & AF #15 Some of the pages I bought were from the story line. But my Action #1 was not :( but hey at least I doubled my money if not tripled by now. :)

Lol I thought at first it was a page of it or something, but it’s not even that, just a fragment! The number 1 from the front page I think. That is nuts, how is that worth anything at all? What a time we live in.

There was an episode of "Married With Children" with Peg's obsession with buying junk at yard sales, being forced to sell those items, and getting no buyers. Hitting the bottom of the fools chain also applies to this sliver of a famous comic too.

New market: Take popular comic books and cut them up into little pieces for profit. 🤔
@mattbrosch2 жыл бұрын
This is what I find most worrying about this type of sale. I can totally see somebody acquiring a really low grade copy of something like AC #1 and then cutting it into the tiniest pieces to sell the individual parts for more than the complete book would go for. No. 1 stamp? 7k. The "S" from Supermans chest? 20k. His face, feet, and hands? 5-10k a pop. Then move onto individual pages, and chopping them up into individual panes to maximize your profit there. It's sad that this is what "collecting" has devolved into.

I’m curious where the rest of the comic is. Didn’t CGC say they were going to start grading single pages?

Love the videos as always, but honestly we're in a age where people are buying NFTs lol when they arent financially established so...I'm not sure theres any logic behind any of these purchases
@Johndeplume.2 жыл бұрын
I was JUST about to make the NFT comparison. Completely agreed. 👍 Personally, I wouldn't buy either of them... but I'd certainly be more inclined to purchase a piece of something, than something of (virtually) nothing. To each their own.
@simascnop80332 жыл бұрын
I think NFTs are some new kind of Kikstarter etc - it's a relationship between scammed and scammers. If people would understand what they are "investing" in, they wouldn't spend their money. Why would a hyperloop would make sence if already a magnetic levitation train was not economical? Why would they invest in solar highways if everyone with technical knowledge knows it is the worst place to put solar cells? Most people don't understand what NFTs are, so it is easy to rip people off... kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqiwm4ONhMacorM

I’d have never made a move on this.. it’s bizarre IMO, but then I thought “what if it wasn’t purchased for investment purposes?” I was looking at Megalodon teeth the other day just because I thought it would be fun to own a few. I’d have been out of my mind if I was to believe I should’ve been buying the entire megladon skeleton 😕 Great content as always though! This is absurd on a couple of fronts. Obviously purchasing this is just bizarre. Secondly, the fact that CGC would go ahead and slab this is pathetic. I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised given the fact they previously slabbed invisible comics for company Bad Idea. So glad I bumped into your channel. Great content! 👍🏽👍🏽

Great video thanks. Would be interesting to know the collector type of the action 1 piece. Do you think grading companies risk an integrity issue in this sort of wild slabbing expansion? Is it A risk for the slab markets With rates rising and inflation squeezing incomes there is risk for mid low end of all collectibles imo, the high end of extreme wealth hit by sanctions and increasing nationalization imo. Interesting times

Hi Pat, So. I'm not interesting in investing in antiques or comic books or whathaveyou. I am, however, a bibliographer and codicologist who studies medieval manuscripts and the early modern/late medieval book trade. I can say this one thing: this sale of a 'piece' of Action #1 is going to result in a LOT of bookbreaking (cutting up or purposefully removing pieces of a book) by dealers and auction houses. Whatever grading company was willing to be a part of this needs to think about the fact that they're basically endorsing the destruction of these objects... and starting a trend in which pieces of books are deemed valuable is really bad news for the future of comic books in a historical sense. For a person who only cares about these kinds of objects in terms of how much profit you can make off of them, I suppose that may not matter much to you, but there is something obscene about encouraging companies to destroy historical objects in order to turn higher profits, isn't there?

@cervine6662 жыл бұрын
interested in* And reading below, looks like this is already a thing in comics, since people are talking about single pages being sold. Well, have fun watching auction houses and dealers break tons of comics into little pieces for a bigger profit, I guess. That's the state of the medieval manuscript market now; huge numbers of medieval MSs are being broken into individual leaves. If houses and dealers are happy to slice apart books that are 600 years old, you can bet that they'll be overjoyed to start hacking some comic books to bits.
