This is a culture problem, NOT a knife problem. When I was at school back in the 50s/60s most schoolboys carried a pocket knife and often when out in the countryside a sheath knife and camping a machete. To my certain knowledge we did NOT go round stabbing people. In school the teacher would often ask to borrow one and the embarrassment if yours was not sharp. I had an air rifle from about age 10 and we used to shoot grey squirrel for the Forestry commission 2/6 (old money) for each squirrel tail handed in. Again we did NOT go round shooting people. We would even take our knives and air rifles into the school workshop to sharpen and service. Where did we go wrong? Now you are guilty of breaking the law if you happen to have a folding Stanley knife in your pocket while out and about.. Banning knives in public only affects ordinary people, certain cultures will ignore the law anyway.

Can we have the racial breakdown for this, after all when a white police officer kills a black person we are given it, we are not being given all the facts here to allow us to formulate a proper opinion. Surely it is not another black person carrying a knife and using it. please give us all the facts.

Why do you want the boy to be black ?? If knife crime is a real issue race should not matter

Agree..reverse racism is rife in the UK..and here in NZ....a crime should be reported factually and honestly, not a partial report because the perpetrate was not white. Why do Brits pussyfoot round the question of ethnicity in crime...stop and search should stop some knife carrying..surely it is an offence to carry a dangerous weapon...but the brave police arrest those saying Hurty words, or declare they are natural women..but carry a weapon which can kill..oh that is okay....what's going on.....Crocodile Dundee on every corner.

Sadly when you have idiots in power who don’t care about their citizens this will continue. We need immediate reform. We need people in power who genuinely care for the innocent people of the UK, not morons who are against them!

Unfortunately I feel it is a generational problem that has spread across the world. The government and police need to start an educational and public awareness campaign in getting to why teenagers have a need to carrying knives. Parents need to be more vigilant and search the kids bag and uniform before they leave the house.

What gets me is the culprit cannot be named for legal reasons. I hope that gets lifted as the public needs to know. This was an horrific crime and the culprit should be named. Highly likely his name will get leaked via social media anyway.

Not six feet away from my home a young father had his life taken by someone he did not know, The government cares zero, in fact if the one who lost their life or the one who did the terrible act is a person of colour, even less of a concern, the prisons stats dont lie, its just another black child, deceased or in prison , please explain Sadik Khan and the government how this has been allowed to decend to this? All lives matter wheather you are from a council estate, or the upper end of society.refuse to tackle this blight on our society and this mindset will spill out into areas deemed as safe to live in ,Leafy surburbs are not immune, its all our responsibility to look after the needs of young people , As long as the government does not properly invest in youth services that support young people, once and for all we will not change these feral mindsets, Young males growing in a household with no father figure , or male influence, maybe low income households, will eventuality make his way to the street,to juggle to get that fast money, What did you create? young feral minds who feel they have nothing to lose. Prison does not scare them ,walking with weapons that are designed to maim or worse , no fear, whats the solution ? I will say that poverty and opportunities ,when the mother is the bread winner taking minimal jobs with very little prospects, racism. Classrooms where many teachers care zero about black childrens education and help them to achieve is another issue ,racism, its the elephant in the room, The government wants a society that decends into lawlessness, since they know most of the casualties will be people of colour all by design, Continue to marginalise this group ,but dont expect a balanced society, what my parents went through in the uk then my generation was tolerated, this generation are different , and many are not built with the emotional skills to understand themselves and get through life.
