Idk personally i love this game. I think it's more engaging than the first and the epic rat chase scenes are way more crazy. That mixed with the fact that hugo *spoilers ahead* is growing into these powers now and even able to control the rats and let's you control the rat hordes to consume your enemies is just so fun and satisfying. Mixed with the new stealth mechanic items and crazy side stories with the beast chasing you to befriending him idk is just so masterfully crafted. Also i love the even amount of time you spend between Lucas and hugo. Plus you can't deny the part of being on a boat sailing to this island that was fun.

The parts on the boat are literally just you walking around talking to people. That's it lol. There's one tiny part that changes this up that i won't go into for spoilers but that's like a minute and has absolutely nothing to do with sailing.

Meh not really. There's quite a few other more deserving titles that have come out and are continuing to come out. Its not realistic to do full review every game that comes out. The gameplay is the epitome of mediocrity. If I wanted to throw rocks for 10 hours, I'd go outside and skip rocks.

I like Joe, I mean that he is a GREAT reviewer and a OG of social media gaming, nothing but respect. That said, if it isnt a multi player game that Joe can burn through in a few days COD, Battlefield, Outriders, Madden and others. Then Joe isnt playing it and isnt reviewing it. The Angry Joe show has had a new business model for a few years. More videos, Joe seldom gets those multi million viewed videos anymore so he puts out a video or two a day and they depending on content get 75K to 450K and its the total number for the week or month that he is targeting. So for Joe to play longer single player games like this instead of bleeding 9 or 10 videos out of She Hulk doeant make sense. Im not bashing Joes current format, but please this idea that are too many games to review is a crock of shit.

I played from gamepass the second it was released. This game is absolutely amazing! I've played many games since I was 6 years old, and this is one of the VERY FEW games where I REALLY connected with the characters. This is one of the very few games that gave me a rollercoaster of emotions. I laughed, I had moments where I was happy, I got anxious, and this game was able to get me to become depressed. I absolutely loved this game and it's definitely worth trying. There are some hidden dialogues to find throughout the game and to me it makes it more enjoyable. For example, in one level you find silk. Two of the characters are in awe that real silk came from the other side of the world, then they start to wonder if that part of the world is having just as bad as they are. Another example is finding a giant skeleton, again the characters are in awe because it's something they've never seen before. This is a AA game that puts most AAA games to shame especially ones made by EA or Ubisoft. I really do hope they make a 3rd game

To me the 'wild spiral' narrative course this review takes issue with formed the perfect stage for a more abstract exploration of the two protagonists. What I'd suggest people take from this review: if you enjoyed the events of Innocence, Requiem will differ, but if you enjoyed the themes, you will not be disappointed.

The length is overblown.. the 1st game is 8-12 hours depending on how thorough you are.. and this one can be beaten in 13-15 hours you can stretch it to near 20 but it didn’t take me near that long

Really enjoying this one so far. I’m about halfway through at chapter 10. Edit: Don’t spoil anything in replies! Edit: Finished the game. Personally I thought it was better than the first. My only real complaint is that it was a little too long. Also the fake endings were a little annoying. The cliffhanger kinda felt a little cheap too. Despite that I think it’s a solid 8.5/10

Besides the large open area on the island, everywhere you went and everything you did was significant and interesting, if for no other reason but to devolop the new characters more and to make sure that ending and your choice there hits as hard as it does. This game is 9/10 for me. Absolutely loved it. And it's currently my game of the year. What great finale to these characters, if it never gets a third.

Maybe its me but I couldn't bare hugo some times because the end decesion I felt nothing and was glad I made the decision I made. Sounds cold and I get it but at times the game did feel stretched. It's still a great game but it could of shaved a few segments off and I would of been fine... For example the opening segment could of been a lot shorter but that's my personal opinion. Like he said everyone is different. In the end from what I saw in the end I look forward to that IF it happens.

Which is why it hits so hard when a CHILD is saying what he says to her in the end, and what he has been saying thoughout the whole story as well. It's a journey that, ultimately, ends tragically for over half the cast of people you meet. And the point of it all is to give this 5 year old a bit of life to live, and for the sister to come to terms with everything she has to do for him. Even the longest sections, I loved them. Because I just genuinely loved running through them and searching for collectibles and loot.

I have not played this game but I swear in certain trailers, I swear I keep hearing the actor who played Daniel from Amnesia The Dark Descent present in the game but I can't really find evidence to confirm that. Once I get a chance to play this, I'll try to confirm that for myself.

Completely fair review that I happen to agree with. I was impressed at how they punched aboved their weight again but also disappointed at other aspects like you mentioned already (won't repeat). It's still comfortably better than at least half of the AAA games that release which is an achievement of itself like innocence before it. I like both but innocence pips Requiem for me. @@hughjass69933 I meant AAA in general not just single player, Resident evil village which I'd also give a 7. Has some plain bad writing. Resident evil is know for not having good writing though tbf. Call of duty vanguard, battlefield 2042, halo infinite has problems as well, cyberpunk 2077, the last of us part II (I'm not in it's the worst game camp but it's disappointing overall won't get into it again), Gotham knights just shortly after it released, etc. I think I've given enough examples, but I definitely wouldn't put them on par with god of war, red dead redemption II, ghost of tsushima, doom eternal, elden ring etc.

If Skill Up also discussed other stuff besides video games than he too would find it difficult to review every game that releases.

For what it's worth, i think this is a very fair review. I played both games. Loved the first, liked the second. I think it's absolutely too long and I was ready for it to end long before it did. But it's still pretty good and looks fantastic. Just be aware this is VERY heavily story driven. The gameplay isn't very difficult or skill based at all. It feels kinda like one giant cutscene or quicktime event. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just not what some people might be expecting. Either way, i hope you enjoy it! You may want to try the first one first if you have the time. They're both worth playing i'd say.

The way they ended it ruins the franchise, they proved that Hugo should just be killed on sight and there is no way to save him. Plague Tale 1 is good as long as the story ends there with a family moving far away to happily live alone.

@@budthecyborg4575 I disagree. I believe the entire point of the island arc was to show that the Carrier shouldn't be seperated from the Protector. Aelia leaves messages to the future Protector to tell this. They mentioned that Hugo was fine for months on the road because he had his loved ones and his life wasn't threatened. It only reawakened when the beekeepers tried to kill them and the Magister performed experiments on him and locking him away from his Protector. I believe the entire plot shows how the adults and society corrupts children. The Inquisition, Count and Order all tried to capture Hugo and use him for their own ends. In the end ,Hugo was just 5-6 years old. A child of that age can have very unpredictable emotions. That's why before the Count attempted to kill Amicia, they planned to leave for the mountains and give Hugo a life away from violence. In time he even cpuld have managed to master his curse.

You risk a possible plague and thousands or hundreds of thousands of people dying and cities completely destroyed for the life of one person. Kill the carrier, get complete peace of mind for hundreds of years until the next carrier shows up. The last one before hugo was 8 centuries before. Sure, you leave the carrier alone with the protector and things *should* be okay but all it takes is one really bad day or one power hungry idiot to do something dumb and you just killed like half the world.

Vitalis said this, the Magister said this. They know more about the Macula than you do. The Macula would have mastered him. So no, none of your “adults and society corrupts children” holds any weight. Amicia and Hugo are the true villains of the series, and Hugo would be demolishing cities regardless as this game showed. That Protector bullshit, that’s Amicia believing in the Orders prophecies, which is hilarious. She doesn’t believe in any of them, until one relates to her, then suddenly she does. This is just massive delusional cope. Maybe try thinking next time.

I beat this game close to launch. I personally disagree on the story bits I think its better than the first in the story department but you're completely correct about the waves of enemies at the end. It's frustrating to have to deal with waves of 2 people at a time when the stealth gameplay is supposed to be the focus. And I loved the over the top ending personally.

I'd say the next instalment would benefit from something like the chaos system of Dishonored. You kill more / key people, more rats show up. If you play non-lethal, you'll encounter tougher human enemies.

So far I'm in chapter 10 and im loving it played the first game and that was a masterpiece as well while yes the Story itself is stronger in the first game the 2nd has better gameplay and graphics and at least imo more replay value with NG+ more gear and gadgets different playstyles

That..... Does he mean them talking about being happy and going to all live together in the mountain and then it not happening? Because otherwise, there's just the ending of the game. No fake out, you hear the Crack of that sling and it's just the ending of the game playing

Yeah I'm also confused about what Alex meant there. Unless he was talking about the post credit scene which is teasing a third game. But I'm pretty sure it sounds like it is set in present day, so has nothing to do with Amicia and Hugo

It did feel like the game would have the ending arc when they reach the island but it keeps on going for 6 more chapters.

The combat for me is a big issue, the areas are more open and if you don't do exactly what the games want you get destroyed. There have been frustrating moments where it is no clear which path to go.

That was my issue with the gameplay also, It felt very linear and there where times I wanted more choice in how I approached each obstacle.

Excellent review, you put my thoughts right in front of me. I have reservation on the new focus on grand world in danger moments as opposed to just protecting your family amidst the war torn and plague infested France. Plus Amicia is really unlikable early on, their lack of responsibility is a complete turn off…

Wow! So glad to get an honest but fair review. After completing this game I was disappointed in the many short comings of its overall sequel compared to the first. Environments were improved, but everything else seemed disconnected from the abilities of the original.

The game had some intense sequences and emotional moments at times, especially the ending but I felt at least to me that the narrative drags out for too long and it can become repetitive( with too many running sequences) in the middle of the campaign. Every single character is given a back story and all have chemistry with each other. Graphics wise the game looks stunning, especially when The Runes reach the Island, the waves and the sand on the shore look so realistic and beautiful to look at when the sunset hits the horizon(chef kiss). This time around the world feels richer in detail and more interactive with NPCs than the 1st game. The devs did a great job at using the tools at hand creatively and cleverly to pass through the waves of rats in your surroundings. Exploration is rewarding and the puzzles are straightforward. Overall, this game delivers and it is easily one of the best on gamepass. If you like narrative-driven games with a decent/great story to tell, and you like the 1st game. Then this is a must.

Delivers what? You watch innocent families, kids, women and men die horribly eaten by the rats only to solve nothing and save no one. And it just starts again with new baby. You lose everything and solve nothing and , to me, you juts wasted time as a protagonist.

I like the rapid fire reviews: I get to hear Alex's take on the game which I really enjoy listening to his insight. I also liked Requiem....but also thought it was a definite step down from Innocence. the game is about 5 chapters too long and really starts to drag at about chapter 9 or 10, gameplay and story-wise.

I stopped playing it half way through. I liked the first one very much which was more about outsmarting your enemies rather than killing almost as many soldiers as an fps game. They definitely tried to deliver a much bigger experience but almost made it comical as a result. Very good review from Alex.

There were literally no fake out endings, if anything there were a bunch of failed or false leads on a cure or a place that could help Hugo along the way. I feel like we didn't play the same game. Requiem is excellent. I also had no issue with the length. 18 to 20 hours is not very long. I will say that the "murderous rampage" sections for Amicia were a bit much. I would have preferred to be able to choose to not kill as many people. She's also a 16 or 17 year old girl with a sling vs. soldiers so it's little beyond unrealistic.

Alex, your review is ON POINT! I loved this game so much yet I just couldn't connect to it at all like the first game, something was missing and I couldn't describe it really, but you did that perfectly, so thank you for the review. P.S. The review contained too many spoilers in my opinion, if I watched it before finishing the game I'd be really frustrated, so in the future, it would be great if you mention big plot points and narrative stuff less often.

Not in the sense their current stuff is bad, you can tell these guys really need a break or more man power behind the scenes to keep up with demand.

One thing that Alex didn’t take in is that the reason why Amicia is acting whiny” is because she’s done hiding and holding back her anger. Which is a good step forward to let a character that’s skill in stealth abilities to go full sicko mode is down right perfect. This actually takes place a few years after the events of the first as another companion you had from the first game has aged. Plus I think Alex should comment on the amount of beating Amicia received in this game.

It's not just that. It's her role as Protector that is pushing Amicia to be more aggressive. Kind of like a dog bred for a certain job

@@batalorian7997 I suppose so but it’s a lot more than that. The ending was perfect because it means that the cycle continues with new casts f characters in the future and new environments. But let’s not forget about how much of a physical and mental beating she takes in the game. This game for me was 30 hours because I wanted to find everything in each area including the semi open world segments it truly shows that the devs are delivering more than even triple A studios are. I just hope Xbox buys the studio so they can get more funding for bigger projects.

@@nathancohen5748 well, sure those other factors like her love for Hugo. But you remember the body count the first Protector left behind? That's not normal for one person, let alone a teenage female. The alchemist even said that Amicia had a calling. I forgot to mention that this game is supposed to 6 months after the previous game idk about Microsoft buying the studio. I like the idea of the studio getting more funding like the studio that made Hellblade, but once an IP is owned by a company, the company can do whatever they want with it. They can milk it dry or shut it down abruptly. I think they are doing fine for now on their own and hope they remain successful.
