🔸There is no sound in this video, sorry. We had to remove audio because a music in the background had copyright. 🔸The video by itself speaks out the leather wrapping technique used for this plastic piece. Feel free to play it along with your favorite music 😉 Because of the position of its fibers, leather material has more elasticity in one direction (to the left and right sides) than the other direction upwards and downwards (from the head to the tail). I mean if we follow the vertical direction leather material would be stiffer. I want to add that 'stretching' is not done evenly. If we scrutinize all over the surface of our leather hide we would realize thar back and butt areas are stiffer than belly areas). Leather does not behave as vinyl that it really stretches evenly breathwise because of its one direction stretchy fabric backing. Taking advantage of this knowledge, we can mold leather onto or into some pieces which need to be customized with this beautiful material. In the case I show in the video, I have decided to do it one piece; but to ease the job, we could cut and sew in some parts...it depends on the upholsterer's/owner's decision. I hope You Find this Video Useful ! Cesar ✅Get our courses: www.cechaflo.com

Agreed . . . He taught me more in an hour than 15 yrs.working in a canvas and trim shop. But imagine this, not only did he speed up the footage, for every one of the individual sections you need to add an extra 15 minutes (10 at the least) for the contact cement to tack up. This is why at alot of trim shops if you want a dash done they will try to sell you a dash cap or cover, most people would not want to pay what it costs for a job like this

Adi Satzinger,Thanks for following us on you tube! ...the method I'm using is the 'artisan way'...if we were to wrap a similar piece using a 'factory way', therefore it would be advisable to prepare two 'dies' (male and female)...the leather would be first softened, then, between the two dies would be molded and shaped, at one go...after having the 'molded leather piece' ready, it would be gently glued to the plastic piece. The leather I am using is a 'standard automotive leather'...we have to take advantage of the stretchy side of leather material to give shape to the plastic piece. Nonetheless, there are 'special leathers'which suffered a 'special treatment' to get a 'super extra' stretching/elasticity' in different directions(this leather would be useful if we were to use the 'dies method'. Thanks for following us on you tube!

Thanks for appreciating the job itself. In fact the main point is the technique to do the job. As an experiment, we used a cheap 'shoe's leather' to cover the interior. A shoe's leather does not have the 'sealer/lacquer' most of automotive leathers have. We aplied over a 'water soluble shiny lacquer' by hand. it's better a 'solvent based lacquer' and it can be applicable by using a 'painting gun'. It has passed almost 7 years and the leather is still in good condition. Now it has a different 'black and navy blue combination' and it looks much better...it's been repainted.

I landed on this by accident and I am glad that I did. What amazing work. I had some wooden pieces I have been pondering wrapping in leather for a while, but they are much simpler shapes, and I had been planning on just cutting the sides out and gluing them on, not actually wrapping. I am amazes at how well you got the leather to contour to the plastic. What a great finish for 3D printed parts. The big questions I am walking away with are is that just normal thin leather, like if I skin a leather couch for the leather, is that the same stuff or is this something special? And the other big question is what is the adhesive you are using?
@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the leather question the stuff is the same everywhere. To ease the wrapping process it is advisable to first determine its stretch side. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpnQdH18pbSmlZI I used a regular upholstery yellow glue. This is amazing work! Who needs sound when watching a master at work. After university I learned some if this art from a lady from Italy. She was a remarkable sewer and pattern maker. I did not have the chance to learn this type of work however. Are you using contact cement? I am finding with an oily type vinyl I need to work with thst I can't get the material to stick to itself. Do you have any tips for that? I just can't get any glue to work and I can't sew it, I have to glue the overlap together. a Thank you for showing your work! This will make my next project look much better, more the way I want it to be! Thank you very much!!!

I use a 'yellow glue' which comes in cans or bottles and most of the upholsterers, shoemakers and leather artisans use. If you are in USA, please, check:www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-32-fl-oz-Weldwood-Original-Contact-Cement-00272/100125525 www.ebay.es/itm/Petronios-Master-All-Purpose-Cement-Glue-Shoe-Repair-Adhesive-Glue-4-oz-/291064753112 Try to use a 'thick stretchy vinyl'...there is also a '4 way stretchy vinyl'. Paste glue both surfaces to stick. www.albrightssupply.com/Automotive-Vinyl-s/1838.htm www.albrightssupply.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=4+way+stretch+vinyl&Submit=Search

Yes, I have stretchy vinyl, however it does not want to stick to itself...it seems rather more oily a surface to take anything! I have a can of vinyl glue used specificly for awnings etc that are covered in a plastic coating, and I am experimenting to see if I can get that to work. So far, I can get a layer of that to stick, so I may then be able to get it to work once the first layer dries, then add another layer (on both sides as you say, typical application) and see if it holds. I will get back to you here to let you know and give you the name of the glue...it is a clear glue called HH-66 vinyl cement. Expensive stuff, but wow, does it ever work and holds tight to most vinyl, actually bonding it. But will have to see how it works on this more oily stuff. Here goes!

Yes, I now understand, you're working on a vinyl material that doesn't have the 'elastic thin fabric backing' all the vinyls have (these materials stretch breadthwise as it comes the roll). The 'yellow solvent based glue' doesn't adhere directly to 'oily vinyl/plastic canvas surfaces'...it unsticks fast. Anyway, let me know about the outcome...I like the glue you're talking about. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apnHgmCVm9use7s

I have a backing that is kinda flossed on my car vinyl. The tarp vinyl is like that in the blue stuff used in the HH 66 glue video you showed me...yes, and THAT is super stuff, even to seal the sewed seams...I have used it and that works super on vinyl that is glued surface finish to surface finish. When the seams are glued, they STAY glued! Mine has gone through wind storms and holds fast! I find that if I coat the flossed side on the car vinyl fabric, let that dry and then come back and again coat both surfaces to glue up, it works much better! I have decided to sew one section however as I don't want a seam glue look on the surface, and I need to pipe the edging to get it to look much more professional...Anyway, I do recommend the HH-66 glue and USE A MASK...it is very potent stuff!!!LOL I think I need to also rough up the vinyl side of the material to get it to stick better. Would using reduced alcohol clean the surface up better for gluing? I might try that. I had thought of lacquer thinner because you can reduce that with water to be less powerful, but I think that will just melt the vinyl too much. K, giving this a try, and should know by tomorrow how this all might work~!LOL Thanks again for your great reply!
