The cap hit doesn't matter for St Louis. They have over 14 min space . He doesn't have to be comparable to other 4 million dollar defenseman. There is literally no risk for them because they wouldn't be near the cap anyways.

If you're trying to low ball a guy, you shouldn't be shocked if they jump at the chance to get paid. This is a win win for the Blues, where they needed a little help as a playoff bubble team trying to get into the second season.

Broberg showed much promise in the playoffs. He got a offer from St L. he can make the most of it. Edm has kind of painted themselves into a corner with all those bigger contracts so they should have saw this coming. I dont think Bg is going to set the world on fire next season but i think he'll be a good bottom or middle pairing.

Not sure it’s that much of a risk for St. Louis they have cap space he’s young it’s 2 yr contract not 5-6 yrs At worst they could waive him in a yr if he’s not worth contract so they’d clear a mill in cap savings Meanwhile Edmonton loses a potential top 4 dman

I think that is exactly it.. there is a study of the value of a 2nd round pick.. AND on top of that drafting a 2nd round d-man.. its a 12% chance for the guy to even pan out to play 200 games in the NHL.. (d-man).. at this point does Broberg have better than a 12% chance of playing 200 games?.. and plus.. even if u drafted TODAY.. its like 2-3 years.. before you would see the player even "Try" to make the team..
