There was another person online who released a pack of Impulse Responses meant to emulate this reverb. Obviously not the same as the algorithm but its still an alternative. It also comes with IRs of other PSX sounds, so you can experiment with bizarre yet textural sound design as well.

Oh wow.... I was assuming this was just another skinned set of IRs but it sounds like someone finally did a straight simulation of the PS1 verb. Oh... It's Impact Soundworks. Their Super Audio Cart and verb were the best until Plogue made their version, and even then it's still pretty cool to have those sounds sampled from hardware.

If only they made a VST with this level of emulation but for the lofi, bit-crushed sound quality that these console’s sound chips produced. would be a massive help
@hippyhobo62853 ай бұрын
@megamatt1915 what you're looking for is called DAC emulation. There's quite a few of those. Also, if you have Amigo, that inherently comes with the lower samplerate that the Amiga did, which was used for a lot of early 90s tracks, including songs from video games
@megamatt19153 ай бұрын
@@hippyhobo6285 thanks for giving me the term 🙌 and yeah, i’ve heard that amigo does well with that, as well as dismort and RX1200 (which is an SP1200 emulator). so you definitely can get pretty far with those to get to that 90s lofi processed sound. but i wish, similar to the plugin in this video, that the specific algorithms that these consoles had when processing sound could be directly emulated in a plugin so we can get as accurate as possible.
@Thought-Forms3 ай бұрын
@@megamatt1915 Gameverb has downsampling / bit rate reduction controls in the signal path (in the context of the reverb/delay effects.) Andrew at Impact let me know that the bit rate reduction uses an algorithm from the SNES specifically that acts a sort of lossy compression. Maybe they should detach that from Gameverb and sell as a standalone "DAC" VST? 😃

0:21 this sound triggers the same experience as your life flashing before your eyes, but instead with ptsd and danger, its with nostalgia. In the mids of the messed up world of high-tech social media culture, a rewind in lightspeed back to simpler time as these is something I truly long for sometimes........... I'm deviating....this about recreating ps1 reverb with gameverb.. Imo the plugin is a bit expensive, if they lower their price or when its on cheap sale, I'll keep this in mind.

The power of the PSX intro 😃 I think some intro pricing would have benefited them and maybe a tad cheaper. But it does do what it do, and I'm not sure too certain of anything else similar out there

Outboard FX 95% of the time, if I do anything ITB it has historically been Arturia Reverb Intensity & the stock Bitwig Delay. If I were making some PSX-esque / silent hill horror stuff ITB I'd reach for Gameverb 100%. For any drum & bass to release, I wouldn't use it. It's pretty niche IMO (and dont mean that in a bad way)

This is awesome!! I got it day 1. I always wanted a PS1 tracker, I guess making music in a regular DAW is much easier and fun, but with a dedicated PS1 composer, we could have the actual limitations of a PS1 as well. In some trackers, you can even see the sound chip RAM usage to know if you're within the console's specs. I would love to have that combined with this reverb! I really want to make it as legit as possible :D

Yep, it was the syn:1KeyRush preset. I only ever owned, and still use a mid '90s E-mu esi32 sampler, never owned any of their romplers, but friends did. I'm not surprised so many E-mu presets ended up in game, TV and film soundtracks though. The quality of the samples, along with the synth architecture and z-plane filters in these machines were fantastic.
