I agree 100%! My husband and I say the same thing all the time. I can’t stand when someone in a restaurant especially or a store has an attitude. I worked in retail for a long time and i was always friendly with people. I always made sure people felt seen if there was a wait.

My son is in the Navy. He was in San Diego the past 2 weeks for schooling. He currently is in Japan. He said he had no desire to move back to the US. People are so rude he said. I understand. The US has been changing and not for the better.

Unfortunately Lester I don't think it's the Good ol boy system. I think it's how a lot of Americans have become. I have been delivering bread for over 20 years and I say good morning to everyone. I'm up and out of the house by 3 am every morning and work until after 2 pm so I work thru both breakfast and lunch and the service and the friendliness of people have changed so much in the last 10 years. Your right it's sad to say good morning to someone and they look at you like you're crazy. I say this because I eat by myself everyday we need more Families in this world like the Morrows and I mean that.

How ironic you would talk about restaurant service! My husband and I went to the Texas Roadhouse in Missoula Montana last week. It was our first visit to this newer establishment. Upon being seated, the kindness, most sincerest waitress welcomed us with a huge smile. I was shocked! We haven’t received a welcome like this in years. She became a great friend within minutes and I gleefully told her how much we appreciated her kindness. The meal was excellent, the wait time was short and after the meal, the manager approached us asking how we liked the meal. I focused more on our waitress and her positive attitude towards us. She gave us a gift for being new customers and we left feeling like we finally found a friendly place to eat. Her name is Korynn! 😉 Obviously the Texas Roadhouse knows how to hire great people in Montana. We’ll be back!

I definitely appreciate being welcomed to establishments, whatever service or product they’re offering. A Trader Joe’s grocery store opened two blocks from me, and knowing they have a limited amount of product I usually just went to the bigger grocery stores. But because of the convenience, I wound up going there a few times and I noticed something hugely different. EVERY single employee there whether a cashier or someone stocking shelves would greet you and even engage in fun conversation. It is a drastically different environment than other grocery stores I go to. When you walk in, the atmosphere is filled with joy and friendliness, which has led me to almost entirely do all my grocery shopping there. It’s quite obvious that attitude is a big factor in their hiring process.

Yes, lived and worked there years ago. I stopped following instructions when they included violations of federal law in writing. I made contact with old friends back here in Texas, and three retired law enforcement officers came to that state to pick me up three days after Christmas. I just don’t look good Orange. But to this day, one of my best friends on the planet still lives there owns property and businesses there and her and her family will always be my friend. And I go back in a minute.

I’m a server. I strive to exceed customer expectations with each table I come in contact with whether I’m actually the server or not. We are trained to look at the front door every 10-15 seconds. Front door awareness is huge with the company I work for. It is a corporate chain. I love my job because I love talking to people etc etc. You want the customer to come back again. FOH is extremely important to a restaurant ❤

I’m from Wisconsin. We had a local place. My husband and I would always go between one or two places on a Friday for a good old-fashioned fish fry. The last time we went to this one place which was closer to home the waitresses ignored us. We sat at the table for a good 30 minutes and it was like we weren’t there. Finally, my husband got a passing waitress was somebody gonna take our order will send somebody we waited another 10 minutes and we walked out never went back, fortunately now the place has sold and there’s new owners in there. Haven’t tryed tried. It.🥰❤️

I don’t have a restaurant experience, but I have been treated like that at a churches. I went any way to one of them … for years … because I liked the pastors and their sermons. Plus, I go to church to worship, not for any other reason. If you find other things, it’s very nice, but not necessary.

I’ve been a waitress for many years. Ask any waitstaff how they feel about Sunday afternoons. No one wants to work them. I used to have a group of 8 church people that would come in every week. They would rearrange the tables the way “they liked” them not taking In account how the wait staff was going to get around them. They wouldn’t sit by their partner/spouse ect… they expected you to remember who’s with who. And frankly they were cheap. Some would just have coffee for 2 hours. Split a sandwich. Even sharing a cup of coffee. Nope you Sunday school people should just stay home!

I use to be a waitress for years, did it because I love people. The patrons said they came in time and time again because of the great pizza and the friendly service. I thought of that as the biggest compliment. It was fun to get to know all my new friends. Sure miss it now that I am almost 80. I’d go back tomorrow if I could.

The South has changed so much in my lifetime. There are many advantages to the influx of persons from other parts of the US, or even other countries. The food choices have expanded from the usual fare (beans, greens, and side-meat!). There is a diversity of jobs and careers available. I do so miss walking down main street and nodding or greeting passersby. I used to know all the families in my community. Now, I know only my relatives. I am so glad that you and Jami found Katy's Cafe!

The problem with that 1st place, the blue duck, is they have their customer base. They are all regulars, so they don't need your business. They make enough money to break even The problem with that philosophy is if something happens ,like a pandemic, they are the first ones who have to close their doors. We had a few of these kind of places that are gone. YAHOO!

Yes back in 1969 we went not once but 4 or5 times to a resturant called THE SPEGGITI WAREHOUSE DOWN TOWN AUSTIN TEXAS MY HOME TOWN. WE ALWAYS HAD GREAT SERVICE...FRIENDLY WAIT STAFF. WE WERE TAKING A COULPE WE KNEW BRAGGING ABIUT THIS PLACE. WELL I GUESS ACORDING TI THE OWNER OUR WAITRESS WHO THEY KNEW WAS HAVING A VERY BAD DAY WAS HARDLY EVER AROUND. SHE SAT US DOWN.. BROUGHT MENUES BUT DIDNT COME BACK TO GET OUR ORDERS . WE SAT THERE LOOKJNG FOR HER THEN ALLTHE SUDDEN THERE SHE WAS.TOOK OUR ORDERS THEN DISSAPEARED AGIN FIR AT LEAST 20 MINS. OR SO. WE FINSLLY GOT OUR FOOD WHICH WAS COLD BUT NOBREAD OR SALAD DRESSING OR OUR DRINKS. WELL WE HAD ENOUGH... TSLKED TO THE MANAGER AND ALL HE COULD SAY WAS SHE WAS HAVING A BAD DAY. SO HE SAID MEAL WAS ON THE HOUSE AND GAVE US COUPONS TO A FREE MEAL COUPON . WE TOLD HIM NO THANKS AND NEVER WENT BACK. TURNS OUT IT WAS HIS GIRLFRIEND AND THEY HAD A FIGHT ACORRDING TO ANOTHER WAITRESS.

Wow did Lester find an amazing new spot to eat. It suits him with the food, ambience, portion size mercy Katie you have just made Lester & Jami's day for sure but most of all it gives them a really nice family place to eat at. I can't wait for Lester to take the boys to that place to eat. They'd need two tables to hold the food for the boys but it would be such an experinece for LE, LEX and Conner too. I used to be a server so I always tip well. My sister and I go out to eat, we are older , don’t dress real fancy but we are very friendly and nice. We get ok service but you can tell they think we aren’t good tippers. Our bill came to $32 and we left a $20 tip. Boy did their attitude change! So so friendly. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

It has progressed to where people cannot afford to go anywhere anymore. Affordable is nearly a thing of the past, dining out is becoming a treat. If I can’t count on special service, we find a place that WANTS and APPRECIATES our patronage! One other thing, I do not tip as a routine, I tip on service quality!

What an amazing meal you and Jami had. So what turned out to be a bummer start of the day ended up being an amazing day. That has happened to my husband and I and we never returned. We went into a dollar general store the other day and we felt the bad vibes. The employees were snarky and looked angry and like they hated their job. We left and went to the one across town and it was the complete opposite. Friendly , smiling, helpful employees. Yep, we will go back there.
