A post town in the sky between sacred mountains/ Walk around the mountain village Akasawa, Southern Alps (Yamanashi Prefecture)
Hayakawa Town is a mountain village along the Hayakawa River, which originates from Mt. Ainodake in the Southern Alps (Akaishi Mountains). In the past, it was a region where millets such as barley, foxtail millet, and buckwheat were cultivated through slash-and-burn agriculture. There are few flatlands, and there is Narada Village, which is called a hidden region, in the upstream area, and Amahata River basin, a tributary, is the origin of Amehata Suzuri, a specialty product of Koshu (former Suzurishima Village). Akasawa-juku is a village located in the middle of the approach that connects Mt. Minobu, the head temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism, and Mt. It is said that it was quite crowded from the mid-Edo period to the early Showa period.
Turn off the prefectural road and enter a deep valley surrounded by steep mountains. There are no houses on the way, and I'm worried that there really is a post town ahead. After a while, a mysterious village with Hatago architecture lined up on the slope appears. The village consists of two stages, and in the lower village there are Osakaya and Edoya, both of which are large hatago-style buildings, and are still in business. Many kochu bills were hanging from the eaves, and there must have been a spectacle of kochu guests resting in white attire on the wide porch. Even now, the voice of the monk Namu-myoho-renge-kyo echoed in the mountains. The highlights are the large inn buildings such as Osakaya and Edoya, and the townscape around Daikokuya. Coming down from Mt. Minobu and approaching this village will be the most interesting.
