Gotta be. Tick and dyna are the only ones you see commonly since they have hypercharges and are more fun than barley, willow, and grom for most players. They all serve the same purpose, cover choke points and shoot around walls, and they are play the same way except maybe willow because of her super and dyna if you have jump star power.

ngl brock was always one of my least fav brawlers until the rework. Now hes one of my highest trophy brawlers and I use him for like 1/4 Ranked matches, very fun now as well

I think I was on a break during the Brock rework so I wasn’t aware that his range got nerfed. I’ve thought Brock was supposed to have the same range as Piper, but it always seemed a little strange as it felt as if she had noticeably more range and way faster projectiles too. This clears it up. I guess Brock is not a great choice on long range maps after all.

I think you should've also mentioned that the explosion actually helps with landing his shots since it functions like a bigger hitbox at the end of his shots. Also it allows him to hit multiple people who are near each other, but I guess that's what you were also implying when you said to manage choke points. Good video!

i felt like mentioning that the explosion helps land shots kind of hurts the analysis's structure because i included the projectile speed nerf within the list of changes, and brock's shots actually kind of got harder to hit in general than piper or belle, which is why he does worse in matchups yeah he can splash, but since he still has a slow reload speed, it doesn't help him tooooo much. Still is a notable aspect of what he can do now, though, and yes I did try to mention the chokepoint concept as a catch-all. His lingering chokepoint control is so insanely good for maps like Kaboom Canyon, where the enemy's screwed if they can't find an opening.

I know that Byron is a support brawler, however he is "A better Bea" with fast projectile speed and wide projectiles width, and also Byron has the longest projectile range in the game, also with the recent buff to his damage, he is the ultimate "Sniper" now, so he is worth mentioning in my opinion :)

honestly seems like it, byron's supposed to be this generalist healer/sniper that doesn't particularly specialize in anything except when he doesn't do that then he sucks in trophy play and when he kind of does then he becomes the premier healer and broken in competitive. I guess they're starting from scratch by basically removing all his nerfs since release and trying again

@@SqquareLordthe problem with byron is that his damage is the same as his heals so when they buff or nerf his attack damage its basically a double buff/nerf so they cant properly balance him

Thing with that is, as a byron main (he's like my second or third) that to start, he doesn't have great burst damage, instead he has overtime damage, which means that enemies have a better time running to cover, as opposed to piper, which has a more generous damage per shot making it more likely so, so that opponents don't get the chance to retreat before it's too late, that's so because of your healing mechanic, you need an incentive to heal and bad burst damage is part of that, which brings me to my next point, mental stack, with damage dealing and healing considered, there's the problem of making your performance in both crippled, because in the mechanical sense, spending ammo on whether you're going to heal your teammate or damage your enemies, means you have to sacrifice your actionability in both, if you spend one ammo to heal a teammate, spending the next two on an enemy won't guarantee the kill unless they're low and god forbid you miss the second shot, in gameplay this is very much true and more, deciding on healing a low teammate in front of you or killing a low enemy, repositioning to get sightlines on your teammate; sacrificing your enemy sightlines spending time healing a teammate, sacrificing your threat presence; letting your opponent get easier shots on you or the other way to make it so that your risking the death of a teammate and possibly not even getting the kill; which with bad burst damage can be the case, it can get to the point where it messes up your aim. Which is why I think, despite the better hitboxes and range, Bea has to be the better sniper because of not having to deal with the mental stack and better burst

Brock really isn’t a marksman anymore. Is is sort of a combo of a marksman and a controller. It’s for this reason I don’t think he is super good, but rather, perfectly balanced. A good player can make him work.

The Brock rework was one of those things that seemed awful at the time, but now that enough time has passed, I've realized it was actually really good for the long term and like this video says, it did a lot to make Brock stand out. I honestly kinda miss when they did risky balance changes like the Brock rework because it added something outside of the main content from an update to look forward to. Seriously, for a period of time I got just as hyped for the balance changes sneak peeks compared to the actual Brawl Talk. Seeing the In-Line rework has me hopeful that things are trending back towards more ambitious balance changes so hopefully we see this continue.

Maisie, not really. In competitive it's almost impossible to even hit her shots because they're super easy to predict. Her only value comes from her super. And as for Janet she has little to no pressure from long ranges and is more so about controlling side lanes, when marksmen generally specialize in their ability to control middle.

While the rework was nice I felt like it was an overall nerf for brock he now isn't very good in bounty or knockout the modes which are usually the best for marksman, he's just both bad against other marksman and assassins I only play him in ranked as a late pick, maybe they need to also rework his Starr powers because they're so underwhelming

mandy's supposed to be this more consistent nani as a counterpick against snipers that is weaker to aggro than normal. the problem is, (as you mentioned) mandy's super is so inconsistent. it's supposed to be meant to used as a zoning tool, providing pressure against anyone who wants to move up, but it's too unpredictable to realistically work as that, and is much better used as a nuke that only hits sometimes. I want to make a Mandy video soon as a mandy main, but unfortunately it'll have to wait as we are going in order by rarity

What’s the difference between open and closed maps?

i didn't really explain the example with the hope that the example on the powerpoint would be enough, but i'll explain it here because i was honestly just being lazy then Open maps are maps with little to no chokepoints and unobstructed shooting angles. Chokepoints are defined as entrances between structures that provide a gap of 2-4 tiles in width. Especially the 2-3 tile ones, since you have so little room to move through to advance within the map, advancement through chokepoints can be punished very easily with sharpshooters. Shooting Star is an example of a map with little to no chokepoints, as the left-mid lane is very open, and so is the right lane. Closed maps are maps with many chokepoints and obstructed shooting angles. While I said chokepoints can be easily abused by marksmen, this only tends to happen when marksmen have clear shooting angles to the chokepoint (when the marksman can shoot without interference from other structures). Closed maps usually restrict those shooting angles as well. An example of this is Hard Rock Mine's side lanes, which restrict marksman play because it's hard to shoot through chokepoints, and there are a lot of structures. Honestly, I can't really explain the distinction in full detail - that might need its own video. There are a lot of nuances that go into closed and open maps. For example, Nowhere to Hide has some choked side lanes, leading to some closed areas and some open areas, leading to some brawlers being good in some places and others being good in others. Maps usually have portions that are open and portions that are closed, and then you'll have to manipulate the map to work with that. I guess you'll have to try mapmaking to find out!
