@@misteral9045Not necessarily, team building is a large roadblock for new players because it takes a lot of game knowledge to know what works. Taking a prebuilt with some additional notes of how the teams works allows the new player to focus on in-game decision-making to enable their known gameplan instead of having to constantly figure out something on the fly. I think his perish song team is the perfect example of the Wolfey effect. He accidentally climbs to #1 on SD ladder and has his team stolen, but no one can pilot it so they change the win con and it's still an amazing team! I see this as similar to the Matt Mercer effect in D&D. Matt is great, and he's a great DM in many ways, but you can't put those expectations on others. In both cases, great guys trying to do something unique gets copied, watered down, and repeated enough that it sours the original.

Wolfey is why I got back into Pokemon. Admittedly exactly because I like jank > normal cores. I'm absolutely not good enough to pilot what Wolfey puts out, but they're super interesting and fun and definitely keep me playing longer than if I tried to play exactly meta all the time. It's also a sign that maybe the most meta thing isn't always the most powerful, just the most consistently playable without wracking your brain with 4D plays with odd Pokemon.

I’m never even played Pokemon VGC, but I think this is a bigger problem than Wolfey or Pokemon VGC. I play multiple card games that have big streamers. Any time a new deck video gets popular, you immediately start seeing it pop up when you’re playing.
