I explain mutual coupling, and show how to tune a parasitic antenna like a Yagi or vertical array. Here is the older video that demonstrates mutual coupling in the lab: • How to tune a 2 el Yag...

Great content, well presented. I usually have to listen a couple times to take it all in. It's changed how I go about tuning multi elements antennas. Thank you for the valuable information.

Brilliant again Steve, I have learned a lot from watching your videos on this, thank you.

Great video. This has been a point of fascination for me for some time but I’ve been too lazy to break out the books and it’s a topic you don’t see covered in good detail on KZbin. I especially like the way you showed how the parallel nature of the impedance compares to a purely resistive circuit comprised of two resistors in parallel and applying Ohm’s Law. When you say grounded, do you mean electrical ground (via grounding rod) or RF ground (via radials)? I’m assuming the latter, but would like to know for sure.

Radials. About 100 wires from each element, on the ground ranging from 50' to 120'

Steve - another outstanding video that is informative even for non-engineers like me! How many ground radials do you use per vertical? Thx and see you on the air soon!

I have about 100 radials per element.

4:00 "...resonating like a *pitchfork* ..." Lest any musicians or farmers be confused, I'm confident that Steve meant 'tuning fork'. 🙂 !!!

Baaa-haaaa-haaa YES....I actually did catch that myself, but decided to "let it go" rather than re-record the audio!! I do know better...my wife is a musician/ music teacher lol.

Pitch fork is a better name for a tuning fork than tuning fork......

As always a great video. Can this method be used for an elevated radial system ie 4 radials per element instead of the extensive ground system? John Limanowski N9DNB

John, I don't have experience with elevated radials, but identifying the resonance dips in the parasitic should work. I have used the method for tuning my 80 and 40m Yagis. The "bigger" question is will the pattern hold up if the elevated radials are not perfectly symmetrical and cancelling the radiation?

"tunning"?

So THATS why KZbin search never works. Oh....wait.....no, its because I don't monetize with KZbin so I get pushed to the bottom? Maybe I change the title "Tunning with a Pitch fork" ??
