I did find it very interesting that Phos immediately starting doing what Kongo would do for rock-kun there. But I guess unlike the gems rock-kun was able to develop consciousness and communication all by itself, whereas Kongo would scoop up the gems right away and start shaping them. Not that he was malicious in this action, he maybe was trying to recreate humans in his own subconscious way. Which of course would make things more difficult for the Lunarians' goals. And after only Phos was left on Earth they too would just retrieve gems as soon as they're born and make them Lunarians.

The Doctor really did put in work but even removing inclusions isn't enough to remove the intentionality of humanity no matter how pure it might come from. Rock-kun played the perfect role of breaking that cycle for Phos.

This series is fascinating for so many reasons but part of what I love is how understated the characterization can be. The author never places blame on any character or makes one out to be better or more pure than another. It's like they are all subject to their own lingering human nature, and with an eternal life they all succumb to it in some way eventually.

I just really hope that in the future chapters Phos wont be alone anymore. I don't care who is there to satisfy that, more Dwaynes, other lifeforms, or just something but even though they finally made their first true friend it still feels so terribly lonely with just the two. I also wonder if Phos will take up another form at this point something similar to their first one (due to the cyclical nature of the series). They expressed the ability to alter Dwayne, and that makes me wonder if they can alter themself. Idk at this rate anything can happen, I have no idea where the story is going from here.

Do you think they even remember themselves? I mean phos dose say that they remember being alone in the field in the beginning of chapter 98, clearly referencing their time on earth as a young gem, but everything else up to this point has had us believe that those memories of Phos are long gone, as well as the pieces of phosphophyllite that their memories were stored within. I’d love to see young phos as much as the next person, but it’s been pretty clear that they’re isn’t really much to remember.

@@inspirashamul you’re right! i completely forgot about that! Maybe the whole “loosening your memories” thing that the gems go through is much less literal then we were initially led to believe. Perhaps instead of them being completely removed from phos when they lose their body parts, they are instead only removed from phos’s cognitive thoughts. They are unable to reach them as if they have been locked away yet their memories still appear to them, it would explain why phos calls their younger self adorable when they see them, because it means that while they don’t remember them the way they recall other cognitive thoughts, those memories still exist within them, unreachable but still there. Here’s another idea maybe worth thinking over, all the Buddhist parallels up to this point have definitely pointed to phos reaching a higher level of existence, of becoming something more. Phos started off as a gem and over time gained more and more pieces of, (for lack of a better term) “the human puzzle” eventually becoming human enough to get Kongo to prey, and now becoming even more than human. It’s clear from the way they kinda brag to Dwayne here that they know far more than they probably ever did, so do you think that that level of knowledge could extend to their past self? Do you think for the first time in this entire saga Phos actually remembers who they once were now that they’re at a higher level of thinking? Just some food for thought really lol

god even if it's not the ending this chapter is so satisfying and it makes me cry, to us it's only been a few years that this manga has been coming out, so we are still angry and want justice for phos but phos has been around for thousands and thousands of years, being able to rest and even let go of the people who have hurt them most, is something so beautiful to me that i can't put it in words. also rock is the best character so far next to phos, I REALLY LOVE THIS MANGA IM SO GLAD I READ ALL OF IT!!

The speculation that’s been going around is that rock-kun is from another asteroid so a foreign being that ended up on Earth during the time that Phos went to sleep. Since the idea of the prayer is to wipe out all of humanity so there should no new inclusion-based lifeforms that can be formed post an all encompassing prayer and I guess Phos doesn’t have inclusions after enlightenment? Again all of this is just theory-crafting since none of it is explicitly confirmed or denied by content thus far which is why I didn’t include it.

Thanks for the informative video as always ^^ I haven’t really been happy with the manga lately, I’ve read and seen a lot of depressing things but this one is unique in just how anti-human it is. The angle of humanity sucks and should just go away is too much for me. Phos realising what they wanted was love combined with how miserable and unresolved their relationship is with gems you grew to care for like Cinna is too brutal for me. A conclusion of annihilation for the gems after doing absolutely nothing to solve their relationships with each other gives things such a hollow feeling imo. I’m not sure there’s any take away in this manga for me that would make me feel it was worth reading. Even something as brutal as Punpun never rejected human values in their entirety. They’re something we have to live with and even Phos is still living with them in chapter 99 - so I feel very lost and confused with this ending

But Phos finally took a step in the right direction all thanks to rock-kun which is a fascinating angle to take. I know I'm 3 months late, but thank you for this comment, I binged like 80% of the manga yesterday and after reflecting on it felt really sad, looking online for thoughts and discussions I only found people discussing which characters are good, which are evil, but I wanted to find something like this, talk about how the story presents its themes, this whole manga was a depressing look on humanity, this is the first time a story has made me feel this way, other stories that explore the bad side of being human usually talk about things the majority of people can't relate from an individual perspective, like societal problems as a whole (Poverty, war, injustice, etc) or things like someone commiting mass genocide, being an absolute monster, and even when they do, they usually end on a hopeful note, but Houseki no Kuni sheds light on humanity's inherent selfishness in a way I've never seen, characters never really connect with each other, no one truly cares about other people, because that's impossible to begin with, they only care about how other people make them feel, or what they can do for them, or that's how I interpret what it's trying to say. It's the opposite of how I've been living my life till now, until this point I believed connecting with others is what gives life value, and now this story is making me question even if it's possible to connect with another person, or truly care about them, I love it and hate it at the same time.

Glad I can help in some part for you! For some context of the videos, I have chapter reviews for every chapter from 94-103 (excluding 98). And any of the Houseki videos that are out that don’t have a chapter number attached to them are usually associated with the most recent chapter of that video’s release date. Yeah their face does seem to be liquidy or at least able to morph based on what Phos is feeling. I saw the holes in their body has the arm holes and that Phos know has a skinny waist. Yeah I originally thought the ring was to indicate that Phos’ prayer was full and ready for usage but Phos offhandedly tells the rock that they can pray them away too so idk what the significance of their form is.

You should study more Buddhist and Hindu content/religion/mythology I'd also highly recommend Celtic/Irish/Welsh content/religion/mythology They're all true/fact(Depending on what level of truth/fact you are looking for) Art/mythology/folklore etc., is a imitation/direct descendent of real life. Don't let people interpret texts/manuscripts/poems/books for you. More often than not, they are not correct or just partially correct in their opinion/analysis. Phos never understood sin/wrong doing and still struggles though shes far improved her understanding. What I see, nearly endlessly, is people have selective eyes and minds. For example, people who teach the bible and whatnot often will read a paragraph where the first 2 sentences are fairly straight forward and the 3rd sentence makes little to no sense and then the final 2 sentences make sense and are straight forward. They will literally delete that middle sentence from existence and their "teaching". It's LITER-ally. Yeah they threw it on the ground. They should get a ticket for littering... maybe they should call it Letterally... Example off the top of my head: And 700 Men went out for war, who were all left-handed who could sling a stone at a hair and not miss... THESE PEOPLE IN THE EYE EXAM LITERALLY GO FROM A-K AND NEVER MAKE IT TO Y. BRO..............
