Enjoy this special presentation by NASA researchers Denis Felikson and Steven Fons as they share “A Precise Look at Ice: Measuring the Earth’s Cryosphere with Centimeter Accuracy from Space,” recorded August 18, 2022.
In 2018, NASA launched the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) to observe Earth's frozen regions like never before. By emitting thousands of laser pulses toward the Earth every second, ICESat-2 captures the height of the surface with unprecedented detail. These precise height measurements allow researchers to estimate the thickness of glaciers, ice sheets, and sea ice and uncover how these ice masses have changed over time. ICESat-2 is helping reveal complexities in Earth's ice like never before, so join us on a unique exploration of Earth's ice from space!
