Well it took me two weeks, but I finally finished all 340 episodes of "Scott Brown here" and "on this exciting episode". Phrases that I find myself, like other viewers, spouting out in my every day workflow. Musical creativity is perfect. Edits with all the street and landscape views break up the flow just right. Chef P is...well...a priceless once in a while and now that little french ditty is in my brain. Characters are super fun. And last but not least...watching Makita and Milwakee fight for your screen time is almost a sporting event. Go Makita!! Now where did I put my Makita jersey?

I'm from the UK and I'm no carpenter, my trade was as a pipe fitter working in London on big construction sites. I am now a self employed handyman. All I can say is that your videos help a lot but beyond that , the friendship between you and everyone in your videos is epic. Sorry to go on but I also think the way you edit your videos is awesome. @@jerome9380 I have friends who are in various trades and a lot of my work is supplied through them. I have also always been willing to help friends when they buy new homes . It's a good way to gain skills. I spent most of January helping a friend completely gut out his new house, knocked down walls and put in rsj's, I decorated 95% of it myself. Any opportunity you can find to learn and diversify your skills should be taken. Even if you aren't getting paid!

If (1) I were the homeowner, (2) I saw and understood what Scott did to those weatherboards, and (3) the bars/pubs have reopened, I would have taken him and his crew for a night out. I would even be their designated driver. That dedication to the quality of work is rare, at least where I'm from. Here, contractors'/handymen's quality of work is often "masabi lang" (roughly translates to "complying for compliance's sake") or "pwede na" ("that's fine"). That's one of the main reasons I got into DIY when I became a homeowner. Thank you, Scott. You're an inspiration.

Built it right!.. translates as: Build it expensive! That was always that show's dark side. NZ and Canada have 2 things in common - the astronomical cost of building and house prices in the cities. No surprise when you find out NZ followed Canada's model for developing the 2004 building code structure and subsequent industry certification processes. Water can down and into the house if you stay at deck level, you’ve either got to have the separation gap or the house floor level has to be 50mm higher to avoid incoming water. I’m from the UK so thats just my assumption for that code in NZ.

The height difference and separation of the deck is to stop water tracking back inside via the joists and flooring.

What are those channels you had to route out on the weatherboards for? Some sort of drip tip or air gap provision?

Prevents any water being sucked or blown up the weatherboard from going any further. Allows air flow to dry any water out. Just creates a cavity.

The added weather groove is to stop capillary action, where water is sucked up into tiny gaps caused by the difference in air pressure. The groove provides an air stop and allows water to travel along it, to either drain out or dry.

Called a capillary break. It's not air pressure, pressure differentials will actually drive water across gaps. Water surface tension means water will suck up two touching surfaces against gravity. Creating a large enough physical gap near, or at the start of, joints means the surface tension can't bridge it and continue tracking up to the inside. A great way to see how fast this happens is to take 2 sheets of glass, hold them flat together and dip one end in water. It immediately fills the touching faces and will crown out the ends. Put a rag on the upper edge and it will become saturated.

James Hardie 16mm weather boards no better weather board system in my opinion, secret nail, no shrinkage, no twisting, no cracking. No one likes working with silica products but with respirators and extraction it’s a perfect finish to a weatherboard house ( Aussie so might have a different product range)
