I love your shanghainese videos and hope you keep doing them!! i grew up hearing it from my family but have never been able to speak it, and learning now as an adult is hard but your videos are unbelievably helpful bc they're so casual and replicate normal speech patterns. I feel your struggle so much with the english mixing in haha but your accent is really good, so your efforts are appreciated!! xx

Even though both of my parents speak shanghainese, when I was at home, I'd only speak to my mom in shanghainese and my dad in English. When my mom passed away a few years ago, I stopped speaking shanghainese completely. Recently, I started to miss the language as you don't really hear others speak it often. Thankfully, I found your videos and they provide me with a sense of home and familiarity ❤️ thank you

I am not chinese lol but I’m learning shanghainese now, I already know mandarin. As for why, I think it’s fun to learn dialects and I chose shanghainese over Cantonese because its harder( I know bc I already learned 2 months of Cantonese and my progress in shanghainese is slower) and less people speak it. It’s so hard to learn because there’s way less resources and also no standardize pinyin kind of system. Many of the resources are in chinese too. And the way the sandhi (tone changes) works in shanghainese are different than in mandarin and Cantonese which are like character by character. In shanghainese is like phrase by phrase. Anyway I’m gonna post a video of my speaking shanghainese if you want to watch haha! Have a good day! And subscribed

As a Shanghainese, I suggest you to open an account on bilibili so that more people can hear from you. So excited to see some video recorded in Shanghainese. It's really a sort of language that need to be protected.

Speaking Shanghainese really won’t give anyone a big audience. I do wanna let u know your efforts are appreciated. Shanghainese will survive. Both the language and the identity.
