I haven't watched the video yet, but I was assuming he would say "No". And given the state of the CC as it is in everyday life, "No" might be the best answer, at least sometimes. One has to take account not only of what the Church is for, but also, of what is good for individuals: for some people, becoming Catholic might be a very bad choice. It's a good question.

Obviously you don't love truth rather you love tradition and your reasoning. You love man's tradition more than God's word. "Thou shall not make any image". Catholics make all kinds of images and come up with all kinds of excuses to justify it. Why can't they worship without those images in the first place? Millions do that. Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and man, so says the Bible. But Catholics have numerous mediators and their number is increasing almost daily. Catholics have all those anti Biblical justification for that too. And it goes on and on...... . Read your Bible and compare all denominations with the truth you see there. A normal human being wouldn't go to Catholicism without giving up his intellectual honesty, forget his love for truth and the Lord.

I loved Bishop Barron’s response about why Protestants are excluded from the Eucharist. I’m a convert by way of evangelicalism. I absolutely DID NOT believe that Christ was truly present in the Eucharist while I was Protestant. Indeed, someone should say to non Catholics, “I don’t want you to take something you don’t believe in.” Makes so much sense. Then, when I was in RCIA, becoming Catholic, I hungered for Christ in the Eucharist in a way I never ever did, as a Presbyterian. When, maybe 4 times a year, I had a tiny square of white bread and a micro glass of grape juice IN MEMORY of Christ’s crucifixion. The two don’t even compare.

Then why are Lutherans, Orthodox, Anglicans and as far as I know, Old Catholics, all excluded? You know, most protestant traditions with roots in the reformation times actually hold to the real presence of our Lord. Granted the "reformed" use a language that these days confuse most people, so they think He is not present, but originally I think they also had a real presense to the meaning (Anglicans consider themselves reformed, so they must agree I guess).
@Ryan_Zell
@Ryan_Zell 4 жыл бұрын
@@MortenBendiksen Orthodox are not excluded because they hold to the Real & Substantial Presence. Luthereran ministers who come into the Catholic Church as Priests (2 are in my diocese), will ascept the Real & Substantial Presence without much of a change in theology. Anglicans and Episcopalians can as well, (2 are in my diocese and one of them was in my parish). The Reformed do believe in the Real Pressence (which is misleading) because they claim they eat and drink the flesh and blood spiritually. We do that as well, but it is also the transubstantiated bread and wine we consume. Taking it spiritually, is not "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and Drink His blood, you have not Life in You." So they do not eat His Flesh and drink His blood. Also, maybe some have so much devotion to Christ that they go too far and feel they have to attack back - kinda like when someone insults your mom and you feel the need to put them in their rightful place. To be honest I think most Catholics, most especially those who listen to the Liturgy of the Word regular, which is an excellent way of understanding how the Old Testament is reflected and clarified in the New Testament, know more than they give themselves credit for. It's kind of like showing your Mam she always knew how to use the remote! They might be hyper aware that Protestants are Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, and feel they could be tripped up in some cases, in others they just trust or don't argue because it would 'damage a soul' on their path to God. However, they should have more confidence to speak with other Christian's and remember what they know... I remember many years ago saying to my mam, 'Why are you afraid of speaking about Scripture with those who may disagree, why don't you say what you know?' - Very simply she said, 'We're not children of the Book, we're children of the Living God and the only Church He instituted In the Book, let's trust Him!" I'm so grateful for even being prompted to listen and think about this amazing truth from my Mam, and I pray to have her trust and patience too. Should you become Catholic? Yes, every single time.

I will say, the deep-seated roots and rich history of the Catholic Church and it’s pursuit of truth of the mystery of faith is one of the most awe inspiring aspects of Catholicism. I have one book to recommend for you, “Selected Writings” by Thomas Aquinas. It is one to be read with great focus and digested slowly. It is not too long, and focuses on the meat of the philosophical relationship with theology, overall giving a better understanding of the many principles of what drives Catholic teachings such as those Bishop Barron professes in this video. Hope you pick it up.

Yeah Paul talks about this. But there will be glory, honor, and shalom to everyone who does good-to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. For all who have sinned outside of Torah will also perish outside of Torah , and all who have sinned according to Torah will be judged by Torah . For it is not the hearers of Torah who are righteous before God; rather, it is the doers of Torah who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the Torah , do by nature the things of the Torah , they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the Torah . They show that the work of the Torah is written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts switching between accusing or defending them on the day when God judges the secrets of men according to my Good News through Messiah Yeshua . Yes, but he wouldn’t say that you can be saved by following the law as Lumen Gentium would prescribe as referenced by Bishop Barron. Galatians 5:4 refutes that: “You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.” WLC would say that the person who repents and flings himself on the mercy of God by placing their faith in him can be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Also, Romans 11:6 says, “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.”

ayy Heloo Here are some examples of the law that the New Testament is talking about from James 2:8-11: “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. For he who said, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ also said, ‘Do not murder.’ If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.” Leviticus 19:18 is referenced along with the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:13-14 and Deuteronomy 5:17-18). Paul gives some more examples of the law in 1 Timothy 1:8-10: “Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine...”. Here we see a reference to the 10 commandments in addition to some other commandments. Luke 18:18-20 says, “And a ruler asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”’ Jesus references the 10 commandments with regard to how one can attain eternal life. So if you keep the commandments perfectly like Jesus did you can merit eternal life. However, we know that Jesus is one only one who kept the commandments and did not sin. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...” So we see that the law at a minimum and includes the 10 commandments. Since nobody has kept the law we are all condemned. However, the good news is this: “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Being a Protestant means you have repented, turned from your sins (and also from the sin of trying to merit your own salvation through any works-they are filthy rags) and trusted in Jesus Christ alone as your Lord and Savior. He has taken ALL your sins, past, present and future, and nailed them to the cross, buried them in the sea of forgetfulness, taken them as far from you as the East is from the West. Praise Jesus! You are born again, not of your own will, but born of God. Can I get a witness? NO weapon formed up against you can prosper. In return, he has clothed you in his own righteousness. You are chosen, predestined, elect, special, set apart, called out, cherished before the foundation of the world. He drew you out of the DEEP waters. He rescued you. Why? Because he delighted in you! You have a delightful inheritance. You will one day rule the earth with Christ. Can anybody say, “Amen”? A thousand may fall at your side, but it shall not strike you. He has sealed and anointed you with his Holy Spirit, marked you as His, and guaranteed you eternal life. Now as you pray and read His Bible, is the Holy Spirit urging you to spend significant time thinking about Mary? Is he nudging you to meditate on the Catholic communion wafer? Is he convincing you that the Roman Catholic church has done a good job of transmitting the gospel and maintaining church discipline?

Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus - "There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved." (Council of Florence) Even if a person seams to be non-Catholic, in the end if he is saved, it is only because he has been united to the Catholic Church is a mystical and an outside the ordinary manner (such as through the baptism of desire, inculpable ignorance, the operation of the Holy Ghost leading him in the Faith to the extent which he could possibly know it and live it, etc.) This is the meaning of Bishop Barron's words, interpreted in the light of the infallible teaching of the Church, "non-catholic's can be saved". This is known to God alone, and if we know that such a great mass of humanity are on the road to perdition, it is incumbent upon us to preach the truth without qualification. Outside the Catholic Church their is NO salvation, because outside of Jesus Christ their is no salvation. And the Church is the continuing operation of Christ's work on earth: to teach and preach the faith (see Matthew 28: 18-20), to sanctify the faithful by bringing them the fruits of Christs redemption (see John 20:23), and to govern them by the power of Christ invested in them (see Matthew 18:18). Protestants, because of your Love of Jesus Christ you must seek the Truth, and the Catholic Church proclaims to teach the Truth. If you do not take these claims seriously, or ignore them and set them aside, then how can you truly be said to be seeking? Put the claims to the test. Read the Catechism, or listen to a Catholic apologist. You might test the claims of the Church, and do your due diligence, and find it's claims false. But on the other hand, you might find something you weren't expecting. So many people reject the Church for what they think it believes, and not for what it truly teaches. I was a protestant for many years. I put the claims of the Catholic Church to the test. I listened to the apologists, read the fathers, studied catechism, studied the councils. I found them all in accord with Scripture. I found myself drawn by Christ into His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

@@drjanitor3747 Agreed that non Catholic salvation is heretical, which is why i specify that baptism of desire etc. has the possibility, not to save a non-Catholic, but rather to unite one to the Catholic Church in an extraordinary manner. Such a person united to the Catholic Faith could be saved. Baptism by Desire is taught by the Council of Trent "Can. 4. If anyone shall say that the sacraments of the New Law are not necessary for salvation, but are superfluous, and that although all are not necessary for every individual, without them *or without the desire* for them through faith alone men obtain from God the grace of justification; let him be anathema (On the Sacraments in General, Dz. 847). And again: In these words a description of the justification of a sinner is given as being a translation from that state in which man is born a child of the first Adam to the state of grace and of the "adoption of sons" [Rom.8:15] of God through the second Adam, Jesus Christ our Savior; and this translation after the promulgation of the Gospel cannot be effected except through the laver of regeneration *or a desire for it* as it is written: "Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." The reason why protestants cannot partake in the TRUE catholic Eucharist is because they do not believe that the bread and the wine is the body and blood of the Lord. The catholic church is the GUARDIAN of the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, the catholic church listens to the WARNING in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 "Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body." When you eat the bread you MUST be convinced 100% that it is the Lords body or else you will eat your own Judgement for not recognizing it as such. If you gather to eat simple bread and drink simple wine THEN DO IT IN YOUR HOMES 1 Corinthians 11:22 don't you have homes where you can eat bread and drink wine? The Lord Jesus said it and his catholic church KEEP His doctrine John 6:48-60 AMEN

I think what the verse means is that if we are unworthy, the more we shd partake the holy communion because we need help . Notice that yes we shd not partake in an ‘unworthy manner’ , the word unworthy is here being used as an adjective to describe the manner in which we drink , like being excessive n a drunkard , which is not respectful of the ceremony! Note the difference .

@@hansreuben1 Watch the context, "For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body." The bible is clear. When you eat the bread and drink the wine and you do not believe, discern, recognize, observer, discover, realize that it is the Lords body, then you eat judgement. That is why 1 Corinthians 11:22 says that if you want to eat bread and drink wine then STAY AT HOME and eat simple bread and drink simple wine. The Lord was clear when he spoke John 6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” AMEN The catholic church is the guardian of Jesus doctrine! We believe Jesus for he is the way, the truth, and the life and nobody goes to the father except through him! If anybody else teaches you otherwise, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM, FOR THEY ARE NOT the way, the truth and the life. If Jesus says that he is the bread and that the bread is his flesh, then that is the truth, for he is the truth. If your pastor says that Jesus is the bread, but that the bread is not his flesh, then your pastor is a liar. It is up to you, do you want to follow Jesus or your pastor? We Catholics are true Christians, we follow Jesus doctrine for he is the way, the truth, and the life! John 6:53 "Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him." AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN That is why 1 Corinthians 11:27 gives a strong warning, if you eat the bread without discerning the Lord's body, then you eat your own judgement! For this reason protestant pastors tell you that what you are eating is just bread and it is! The bread that protestant pastors give you is simple bread. Only the catholic church of Jesus has the authority and the command from Jesus himself to DO the last super. If you are a protestant and you eat bread in your congregation, then you are eating simple bread and you commit NO sin at all. BUT, BUT, BUT if you are a catholic or a protestant, and you go and eat the TRUE consecrated bread without believing that it is the Lords body, then you eat your own Judgement, because that bread has been consecrated by the one and only church that Jesus founded and what they are giving you is the truth, it is the Lords body and you are disregarding it as simple bread! For this reason, the catholic church does not give communion to protestants because the catholic church does not want you to eat your own judgement just because you have been deceived by a lying pastor!
@hansreuben1
@hansreuben1 4 жыл бұрын
You must understand from the context it did not say the unworthy cannot partake in the holy communion. I can be unworthy but I discern the bread n the wine as the body n the wine as Jesus body n blood , so surely I’m qualified to partake . It is only when I partake in a manner which is unworthy ( behavior wise , like being rowdy , excessive drinking) then , judgement will come upon me . Again I must stress the ‘unworthy’ manner is an adjective to describe the manner in which one partake . It is NOT the same as taking it as an unworthy person ! If one is worthy then why partake !

I appreciate Bp. Baron defending the Catholic teaching that salvation is _possible_ (not assured) apart from the visible Church, though not apart from Christ. It is indeed authoritatively taught in _Lumen Gentium_ 16. But I think many Christians do not realize how far back this teaching goes; St. Justin Martyr in the 2nd century said: "We have been taught that Christ is the first-begotten of God, and we have declared him to be the Logos of which all mankind partakes [John 1:9]. Those, therefore, who lived according to reason [Greek, logos] were really Christians, even though they were thought to be atheists, such as, among the Greeks, Socrates, Heraclitus, and others like them." (First Apology 46 [A.D. 151]).

@Be Skeptical Of Everything Well obviously, as Justin lived almost 1900 years ago. But what's the difference between pagans, atheists etc. then, and such non-Catholics now? Anyone is following Christ by following Logos, the only question is whether they are guilty for their ignorance (if any) which keeps them from more fully following Him. Only God (and the person himself, perhaps) can know that.

@Be Skeptical Of Everything Jesus's apostles haven't reached everyone. Those are the invincibly ignorant. Jesus does say invincible ignorance excuses (though, to be fair, he says this when pointing out his enemy’s culpable ignorance): John 9:41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you are saying, ‘We see,’ so your sin remains. John 15:22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin. It is also implied in Luke 12:48, Romans 1:20 and 2:15 Nobody is saying invincible ignorance “takes care” of anything. It does express the humility that only God judges the heart, and that He is supremely merciful. But, you should know, just shouting _extra ecclesia nulla salus_ does nothing to take away anyone’s ignorance, but probably makes it more invincible.

@Be Skeptical Of Everything their contemporaries too. I mean, it's just a matter of basic moral and practical reasoning. If Christianity appears horrible or ridiculous to your conscience, you should 100% reject it. It will be a caricature of course, but someone who rejects a caricature cannot count as someone who is rejecting Christianity as such.

@Be Skeptical Of Everything I don't believe God arbitrarily determines some people to be saved while condemning the rest to hell; I believe such a view of God is satanic, I would call it the Devil. So it's not a matter of who is "chosen" by God (who in fact wills the salvation of all), but of who assents to and cooperates with the Divine Grace. In this case, one must not go against one's conscience if it is telling him or her that such and such is ridiculous or immoral. If your conscience truly tells you that Christianity is absurd or immoral, you should reject it; in fact it would be wicked or stupid to not reject it under such conditions.

I agree with just about everything the Bishop said with the exception being that denying Holy Communion to non-Catholics is not only because they don’t believe it’s the real presence of Christ. Someone who is in the RCIA program, for example, who believes wholeheartedly in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, is advised not to receive Him until he is in full communion with the Church by undergoing education in the faith, going to confession, receiving confirmation, and then being allowed to receive the Eucharist. Also, those in a state of mortal sin who believe in the Eucharist are also not to receive the Eucharist (even if they are Catholic) until they go to confession first. This is because receiving the Eucharist is a sign that we are in a state of Grace with God, without any mortal sin (which cuts us off from God) and are in full communion with the Church. Confession allows those who committed a mortal sin and thus cut off from the body of Christ, to be received back into the body of Christ officially through the Sacrament of “Reconciliation” and thus that person may now receive the Eucharist and thus, the promise of eternal life as Christ promised in the Gospel of John Chapter 6 to anyone who eats his body and drinks his blood🙏🏼

Yes I think the Bishop was maybe just giving a simple reason why the interviewer couldn't receive it. Because if the reason he gave was the only factor it wouldn't be very strong. I myself a Protestant (Anglican) do believe we receive Christ's body and blood in the Eucharist, as do many others such as Lutherans, Methodists etc. Not all Protestants reject the real presence in the sacraments, and I find I myself am a lot closer to Catholics on many issues than I am Baptists/Non Denominational evangelicals.

I am a former Catholic church that eventually became a Evangelical Protestant. There are numerous Catholic doctrines that cannot be biblically justified, like the Immaculate conception and the Assumption. I cannot put so-called holy tradition on equal footing with the Bible. I cannot believe that confessing my sins to a clergy member is necessary for salvation and justification. I take the Bible is God’s word to all people.

RCC: Pope Gregory IX, after he had agreed to the death penalty for heretics at the beginning of 1231, attached great importance to the fact that not the state, but a careful ecclesiastical investigation should determine who really was a persistent Heretic was that he should be handed over to the state for execution, and for this purpose, among others, he created the papal inquisition in November 1231 that same year: an investigative authority that at the same time performed judicial duties and had to watch over the purity of the faith. JESUS: But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you and pray for those who offend you. And whosoever shall smite thee upon one cheek, offer him the other also: and whosoever shall take away thy coat, let him not also the skirt be defiled. Whoever asks you, give to him; and whoever takes away yours, do not demand it again. Do the teachings and actions of the RCC match the teachings, actions and words of Jesus?

Genuine question here: Jesus refers to Himself in many unique ways in John i.e. I am: The gate, Living Water, The Truth, The Way, The Resurrection, The Life, The Good Shepherd, The Light of the World, The Bread of Life. I am a little confused why Catholics take John 6 hyper-literally in regards to the Eucharist, while not taking the same hyper-literal stance when Jesus says He is the Gate. When I read John 6, it truly seems that Jesus is referring to the level of devotion one must have to Him, and not to literally consuming his Body and Blood. In light of all the "I Am" statements in John, this seems like a reasonable interpretation. Because when you eat bread and drink wine, they do not become flesh and blood. Period. I believe Communion is incredibly important, but I struggle with many of the Catholic reasonings behind Transubstantiation, especially their application of John 6.

In the story where Jesus said whoever eats my flesh and drinks his blood, people started rebuking him and quit his ministry. He didn’t tone it down nor took it back. Everything John writes, believers were nodding in agreement.

It's only after the resurrection that the disciples understood that he was speaking about his own body. That means that they weren't sure what he meant but they still followed him. In the discussion about eating his flesh and drinking his blood, when Jesus asked his disciples why they didn't leave like the others, they didn't say because we agree to eat your flesh and drink your blood. Peter's answer was ' you HAVE the WORDS of eternal LIFE'. It simply means that they trusted that whatever is meant by Jesus words will work out in the end. The Catholic Church made a mess out if these words. I pray that God lead you to this TRUTH.

If you are going to be honest, you will answer a big fat "No". Is Jesus Christ the church? Again it is a NO. You have taken Scripture only as a reference but not the measure of truth. How many times did Christ refer to Scripture? Many times. This emphasizes the importance of Scripture as basis of truth. Again if you are honest, men (you) added the words just now "through the catholic church" to force scripture to mean catholicism which can never be found in scripture. What I struggle with here, is that those who speak/spoke of the different churches were everyone BUT God and Christ... in Acts, we can see what the apostles and followers who were with Christ personally did. They came together, they broke bread together, they prayed together. That was the church. Why is it relevant that Paul or any other apostle went on to create what we know today as the catholic church? He is yet but a man, and Jesus was quite clear about the way to him. When it comes to "no salvation outside the church" Bishop Barron seems to elaborate on the unknown of what God can do not actually what the church has taught as dogma through the years Saint Augustine (died A.D. 430): “No man can find salvation except in the Catholic Church. Outside the Catholic Church one can have everything except salvation. One can have honor, one can have the sacraments, one can sing alleluia, one can answer amen, one can have faith in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, and preach it too, but never can one find salvation except in the Catholic Church.” (Sermo ad Caesariensis Ecclesia plebem)

Let's be clear. Someone who has NEVER heard the name of Jesus Christ can be saved on limited circumstances (for example: uncontacted primitive tribal peoples). The problem I have with Catholicism is they don’t even have clear guidelines In Their own beliefs. They have so many customs and Rules and extra traditions. They have confession through a priest and don’t go directly to Jesus and god. Why go through a second party? They believe they have to do some works instead Of faith only. They put too much worship over Mary and that’s not important

Hi! I would recommend you to listen to ‘Call to Communion’ here on youtube. They have answered those questions. Let me answer some questions in a nutshell. 1. Church have clear guidelines on canon law and catechism. But catholics are badly informed and most teaching were misrepresented due to cultural, custom factors. 2. Jesus at resurrection first instructed the apostles about confession. Confess your sins to one another.Priest represents the local church he’s pastoring and Jesus when he’s doing the sacrament of confession. 3. There is only one form of worship in Catholic and that’s the eucharist were we offer Jesus sacrifice to God. Catholics cannot offer any sacrifice to Mary or saints. But they are worth honoring and give reverence for they offer their life in holiness to God.

Is he going against the true teaching and tradition of the Church, as per the Church Fathers....is he being misleading, The Church fathers said that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church. If God chooses to save a non catholic, it is not because of that, but, in spite of that. And God can do that because He's God. He can do anything. But when that person enters Heaven......they will be a part of the Church Triumphant and thereby CATHOLIC. We have to be careful when mentioning Vatican ll, because some not so good bishops and priests twisted many of the meanings for things and the Church became poisoned with the heresies of modernism and relativism....Saint Padre Pio saw it and so did Most Venerable Archbishop Fulton J Sheen.

One problem I had is someone who can be trying to find the truth and its lets say an atheist. If he just has the Bible as reference and he converts, then he will call himself a Christian without any denomination. Scripture is the living word of God and we should abide by it. Catholic churches have some doctrines that are not the Bible. Some catholics will say, "where in the Bible does it say to only follow scripture" But to someone who has read the Bible and tries to follow Jesus Christ, would say something along the lines of: "Thats only if you assume that the Bible (which is the living word of God) is not enough for salvation" The Bible shows us the Gospel and what we must do. Everything that we need is in the Bible. This division of Christianity bothers me. People call themselves catholics or protestant or orthodox. Before all of that we should call ourselves Christians and trust in Jesus Christ alone. Stay safe my friend!

It is a great pity to see all this happened due to the political and abuse of power (Great Schism and Reformation). If non-Catholics do not convert ot is because they have neither sought the truth nor prayed for it. This is not my direct response to you. I’m on phone right now, so I’ll just quote my earlier comment and just read it as a response accordingly: Have you not considered, instead of declaring the Pope and Bishops of Vatican II and those that believe in its teachings are heretical, that perhaps what appears as contradictions could be merely because of our limited understanding - that it is rather our fault. Ex: Maybe when reconciled with more recent teachings, par. 18 rejects the idea that Protestantism is another form true Christian religion (of course it is not, it lacks the fullness of Truth we can find in the Catholic Church and it is not the one Jesus Christ established) or that they are equally pleasing to God (they are not), and nothing more (I don’t see the inconsistency here that salvation is a possibility for some/many of them); or that in par. 17, “good hope” cannot be expected because yes, it would be salvation by “extraordinary means”; in fact, it neither contradicts the teaching that one CAN be part of the “true Church of Christ” even unknowingly; or that par. 15 is more on “reason” as opposed to faith; or that par. 16 perhaps meant that man cannot BY HIS OWN find salvation (even by observance of ANY religion esp. if non-Catholic) - emphasis on the word “any” which includes the Catholic Church to support this interpretation. I would rather not condemn our Popes, Bishops and other believers as heretical, and instead believe that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and protect the Church. The more recent teachings are also more in keeping with the concepts of humility (in not condemning others outright - we’re not God after all), mercy and love that the Bible stresses on and I daresay has put primacy on, particularly with respect to love. I pose this question as an example: How about an unbaptized child in a remote place without any opportunity at all to be introduced to the Catholic Church? Is he destined to eternal damnation? Or let’s even make him an adult. Still? I choose to believe on the infinite goodness and mercifulness of God. And I choose to believe that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and protect the Church, and that the Vatican II documents and the Catechism are something we should adhere to. Tbh, this “exclusivity” (that there can never be an “implied Catholic” for lack of a better term) shows pride and arrogance.

The real reason for the Eucharist to be refused to protestants- • It's not just a matter of respect for the protestant. In fact, we cannot actually have "respect for unbelief itself". No, when one enters Communion, it's not only a matter of belief in the Catholic belief about the Eucharist; receiving Communion also signifies believing ALL that the Catholic Church teaches. Unfortunately, especially since Vatican II, many Catholics are confused about what the Church teaches. Among these beliefs is, "There is no salvation outside of the Church". It can be spoken of further and explained and nuanced, but it is true that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church.

@@sageseraph5035 CCC 845 and LG 16 affirms there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. The only exception are those who dont know Jesus through no fault of theirs can be saved. Bishop says that according to LG 16, a non believer of good will following his conscious is participating in Jesus's grace can be saved. I disagree with this because 1. LG 16 cannot contradict with LG 14 as they are in the same document. The idea must be consistent. 2. What is a person of good will ? A good person ? We know the infallible teachings of the CATHOLIC Church comes from the bible and sacred tradition. Where can be find in the bible or sacred traditions or oral teaching that good people of other faiths can be saved ? 3. Good people of other faith do not have their original sins forgiven, they dont have confession to sanctify themselves. They don't have the anointing of the sick. How are they going to heaven with original and sins committed throughout their lives ? 4. How does one receive salvation ? The bible says : By believing in Christ (Jn 3:16; Acts 16:31) - this is initial salvation By repentance (Acts 2:38; 2 Pet 3:9) - we can say we accept Christ but continue to do evil. I have an acquaintance who says he accept Christ as his saviour but still continues to patronize prostitutes By baptism (Jn 3:5; 1 Pet 3:21; Titus 3:5) By the work of the Spirit (Jn 3:5; 2 Cor 3:6) By declaring with our mouths (Lu 12:8; Rom 10:9) By coming to a knowledge of the Truth (1 Tim 2:4; Heb 10:26) By maintaining the faith (Col 1:22-23; Mt 24:13) By works (John 5:28-29; Rom 2:6, 7; James 2:24) - we need to let the fruits of the Holy Spirit take place by doing good works. But many Christians through their own free will choose to remain addicted to sin. This is why Jesus say you can call me Lord but practise lawlessness (not doing good) cannot enter heaven : Matt 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ By grace (Acts 15:11; Eph 2:8) - initial salvation By his blood (Rom 5:9; Heb 9:22) - initial salvation By His righteousness (Rom 5:17; 2 Pet 1:1) - initial salvation By His cross (Eph 2:16; Col 2:14)- initial salvation Consuming the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist John 6:30-40. Jesus says to gain eternal life and be raised on the last day, we need to eat His body and drink His blood. But Protestants disobey this. Can we cut any one of these out of the list and proclaim it alone as the means of salvation? Can we be saved without faith? without God?s grace? without repentance? without baptism? without the Spirit? These are all involved and necessary; you can't have one and miss out the others. 5. So can good people of other faiths be saved ? The only way is to ignore (1) to (4) above and gain special entry to heaven. The only one who can allow this to happen is God. Through His special grace, He can decide which non believer can be admitted to heaven. This will be the real reason why Bishop Barron says a person of good will in following his conscious can be saved. And not because of what Bishop Barron says the non believer is participating in Jesus's grace by following his conscious because 1. A conscious can be bad 2. There is no theological basis to make the claim that a good non believers is participating in Jesus's grace so he can be saved.

@Be Skeptical Of Everything I agree basically with what you say but I must defend the catechism. CCC 845 still teaches there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. LG 14 says the same thing. But liberals tend to read too much into LG 16 so that it seems LG 14 is contradicting LG 16. To be fair, I find it hard to imagine for example the honest Muslim migrant worker who picked up my wallet and returning back to me with cash and credit card to be going to hell or a Buddhist monk who set up orphanages and charitable organisations to be going to hell because they reject Jesus. I guess LG 16 is to address situations like this. So I can only conclude the only way these good non believers can can into heaven is by the special grace of God who opens up a special green channel for them. But we dont know if such a special green channel shall be opened up for non believer A but not to non believer B. So its best to stick to what the bible and Magisterial teaching have taught us for 1950 years
