It should be no great surprise that Rome is the most Catholic city in the world. (It is, after all, Roman Catholicism.) But that doesn't mean there isn't lots of history here that's of interest to Protestants. In this video I give a short tour of Protestant Rome.
This video is sponsored by Michael Horton's tremendous two-volume book Justification. amzn.to/2FSML0J

I was raised protestant and loved it. Had an encounter with Jesus and accepted him into my heart as my Lord and Saviour. I was heavenly involved in a well known bible based church and served in the youth and kids ministry. We gave so much of ourselves serving our church community with our time and resource. Fell in love with the 66 books of the bible and relying on it as my sole source for doctrine and morals. To me Martin Luther was a champion of liberty and a beacon of truth. Then Christ intervened, and now I'm on my second run of catechism and will be confirmed into the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church next Easter Vigil. To think that every day that passes I get all the more closer to receiving Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist - how amazing is that! Pray for me. Deo Gratias ✝️

Happy for you, brother. After being raised Catholic I was away from 10 to 55 years old and after reading the Bible, God gave me another chance and woke me up and took the blindness out of my eyes I was then becoming a Protestant after accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior because I could not see myself in the Catholic Church for many reasons. However being a researcher I decided I had to invest myself as the subject was too important to be superficial and full of myself so I digged deep into it and got to accept the evidence. Not an easy path, actually much more demanding, but we better accept the truth and our cross ✝️

How do you know that there are 66 books in the bible? Who had the authority to determine that? The Catholic Church did, in 382 AD at the Synod of Rome. And it was 73 books, not 66 books. Luther removed the Deutercanon because it taught Catholic Theology. God Bless and please come home to the Catholic Church.

As a protestant I will say it's good to know our history, but as someone who is starting to understand the teachings of Catholicism/Orthodox Christianity I would say that there is a lot people are missing out on. I'm not entirely sure yet if I'm on the road to being Catholic or Orthodox, but I will say that many protestants consider their church history to be only valid if it stops at the disciples and starts again at the Reformation which means that your missing out on over a thousand years of church history and wondering why so much of the church's teachings seem foreign to you. I use to think that after 90-100 AD that everything had started to become corrupted and couldn't be trusted, again until the Reformation, but I'm realizing how ignorant of a viewpoint that is. There were hundreds of years of Christians being persecuted for their beliefs, so of course they weren't able to sit down and sort out all of their theology. I think that we can forget how hard things were for the early church while reading about history from our comfortable couches. Protestants often criticize Catholics/Orthodox for their emphasis on Tradition, but we let our own protestant traditions get in the way of learning what the first Christians truly believed. We need to soften our hearts and stop being so combative towards our brothers and sisters in Christ.

As a protestant I believe the Catholic church was the first church but they started adding traditions and false doctrines. It's not that we believe that the Church hasn't existed throughout history l, it's just the belief that over time Catholicism began to fall away. Yes it's true the protostant churches don't have the same amount of beauty and history as the Cathlolic church, that doesn't mean the Catholic church holds the truth.

The same as the Catholic Church. Here are some differences: The Bishop of Rome, successor of Peter, is the first among all the bishops of the world. He is the representative and the spokesman of all the bishops and of the whole Church. However, he has no authority over the other bishops. It is the first among equals (primus inter pares). To celebrate the Eucharist, you have to use breads with yeast. The Holy Spirit comes only from the Father, while the Catholic Church teaches that the Holy Spirit comes from the Father and the Son.

@@user-ew8tf3qp3o The only actually difference you listed is the recognition by the Orthodox of Rome's primacy, as opposed to supremacy. Eastern Catholics also use leavened bread and are not required to include the Filioque in their recitation of the Creed; in fact, I believe the Orthodox even agreed to accept that term in the sense that it implied the procession of the Spirit through the Son.

We have Eucharistic Miracles proving that the Eucharist is more than bread 🍞 and wine 🍷. The Orthodox Catholic Church is different for some of the way things are done but no less Holy. Check out EWTN. They have programs showing the differences between them. Just the same as the Trinitarian Mass and the Vernacular Mass. They are different but equally Holy.

It was interesting, nice shots, and learned about the existence of those sculptures. But somehow, a bit lacking on substance, even from the protestant perspective. It would have been more enriched, if you interview one catholic (you are already there!) explaining their perspective on Protestantism, the art, provide more info about the role of Jesuits in reformation, who are the the protestants next to Giordano Bruno, and why they(and who) took the trouble of erecting a statue to them?, and the meaning of indulgences, it seems to me that you have in mind something different of what Catholics actually believe. Or could add some personal reflection, did you feel something entering those cathedrals? felt the call to convert, to run away? what about the art and buildings?, Do you think the restoration of the Basilica was worth the trouble of generating such schism? I mean, no offense, but you could have said the same things using pictures available on internet, you didn't need to travel all the way to Rome for the content of this video.

I was thinking this; they wouldn't 'concede' that anyone was a 'martyr for the Bible' by depicting a heretic clutching it. It gives the impression they really cared about Scripture. Whereas the perennial opinion of the Church is that heretics twist Scripture to their own destruction, as St. Paul says. It is sin that leads to misinterpretation and heresy, not love of Scripture. That's why Luther our beloved prophet (inventing new doctrines in the 1500s, giving new revelation) removed 7 books from Holy Scripture, and threatened more from the New Testamnet, including but not limited to James, Revelation, 2 Peter. It was never about Scripture, it was about what Scripture is allowed to teach.

Actually this is very, very, very (x50) unrepresentative of Catholics and Catholic teaching (it's more of an arty thing), since I'm 1000.0% Catholic and didn't know they existed, for example, even though I know all Catholic doctrine and history, which is devoid of this precise kind of thing. What I do know is that the sentiment very much existed and still exists and should exist that Protestants are followers (and in the case of these leaders of course) of a damnable heresy. Which the Church as Conqueress of heresies (it's her job) must quash and destroy them. In the 'fiery' days when the proud private interpreters came along, innovating doctrine based on new interpretations of Scripture, the Church particularly hated this heresy. I don't hate Protestants, but I don't have any real hopes Calvin or Luther are in heaven, seeing how they obstinately held to anticatholic doctrine and defended their heresy with the utmost vitriol and mocking of the faith once delivered to the saints. "Catholics do this kind of thing" makes it sound like this is the kind of thing we do, and isn't the correct analysis of probably the only two statues of this kind of the world existing at the 'headquarters church' at Rome, where if anything we would expect such to be. It's a little over the top in my opinion, especially when statues of St. Michael usually have the devil underneath. It kind of makes these heretics on par with the devil, which is neither accurate nor really fair. That said, if I met Calvin or Luther today I would undoubtedly pummel them to the ground or worse for destroying so many souls with their enticing and seductive false doctrines, twisting Scripture to destruction. Do you as Protestants think it is licit and valid for men in the 1500s to randomly create a new religion based on a new interpretation of the Bible and claim it was 'original' according to that new interpretation? You don't think they are accountable to, you know, actually checking to see if it was the original understanding of Scripture as history shows it clearly, laughably wasn't? God bless.

Not necessarily. Just what he did with the Roman Catholic Church in trying to bring correction, Martin Luther would probably do the same with the Lutheran Church (his first place to bring correction). Also if he still saw things in the Vatican that are in error he would want to deal with that as well. To think that Indulgences are still being practice would be the first thing that would cause him grief. I think if Martin Luther came back and looked at the entire Body of Christ, he would find things that would wound his heart. Includes: Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Orthodox Catholic, the various Protestant Church traditions. I do wonder if he would find the Messianic Jewish churches a problem--considering the fact that Christ Jesus was a practicing Jew--and is our Jewish Messiah?

Bernie: That is not Martin Luther's legacy - that is the willfulness of man's legacy. The only thing Martin Luther wanted to do was get rid of the error in the Roman Catholic Church (Vatican). Had Rome been willing to make those correction, Martin Luther would have stayed where he was. It is hard to stay connected to something when the error is so blatantly obvious and is wounding to the people. Selling indulgences with the promise it would get someone out of purgatory in order to build buildings hurts the people of God. I'm not saying that everything that the Roman Church promulgated was wrong, but there were several things that were in error, and all Luther wanted to do was address those things. It is so sad that the powers that be during those times were not willing to take a look at those issues, and make corrections. I keep seeing if that effort had of taken place, there would not be so much division within the Body of Christ. If you don't see any truth to what I've just said, then let us just (in the Name of our Lord Jesus) agree to disagree in love. God's blessings of grace and peace be with you.

If martyrdom goes beyond the mere act of believing, and thus is additional to Faith (would count as a "work"), would it be really correct to speak of "protestant martyrs"? Because as far as I understand, Catholics have multiple paths to sainthood, whereas protestants only have "believism", because belief is enough to be saved, and adding anything to that belief is already unacceptable (would be too Catholic).

Images and Statues, Relics & Holy Water I. Images and Statues Deut. 4:15 - from this verse, Protestants say that since we saw “no form” of the Lord, we should not make graven images of Him. Deut. 4:16 - of course, in early history Israel was forbidden to make images of God because God didn’t yet reveal himself visibly “in the form of any figure.” Deut. 4:17-19 - hence, had the Israelites depicted God not yet revealed, they might be tempted to worship Him in the form of a beast, bird, reptile or fish, which was a common error of the times. Exodus 3:2-3; Dan 7:9; Matt. 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32; Acts 2:3- later on, however, we see that God did reveal himself in visible form (as a dove, fire, etc). Deut. 5:8 - God’s commandment “thou shall not make a graven image” is entirely connected to the worship of false gods. God does not prohibit images to be used in worship, but He prohibits the images themselves to be worshiped. Exodus 25:18-22; 26:1,31 - for example, God commands the making of the image of a golden cherubim. This heavenly image, of course, is not worshiped by the Israelites. Instead, the image disposes their minds to the supernatural and draws them to God. Num. 21:8-9 - God also commands the making of the bronze serpent. The image of the bronze serpent is not an idol to be worshiped, but an article that lifts the mind to the supernatural. I Kings 6:23-36; 7:27-39; 8:6-67 - Solomon’s temple contains statues of cherubim and images of cherubim, oxen and lions. God did not condemn these images that were used in worship. 2 Kings 18:4 - it was only when the people began to worship the statue did they incur God’s wrath, and the king destroyed it. The command prohibiting the use of graven images deals exclusively with the false worship of those images. 1 Chron. 28:18-19 - David gives Solomon the plan for the altar made of refined gold with a golden cherubim images. These images were used in the Jews’ most solemn place of worship. 2 Chron. 3:7-14 - the house was lined with gold with elaborate cherubim carved in wood and overlaid with gold. Ezek. 41:15 - Ezekiel describes graven images in the temple consisting of carved likenesses of cherubim. These are similar to the images of the angels and saints in many Catholic churches. Col. 1:15 - the only image of God that Catholics worship is Jesus Christ, who is the “image” (Greek “eikon”) of the invisible God. II. Relics Mark 15:43; John 19:38 - Joseph of Arimathea sought Christ’s dead body instead of leaving it with the Romans. Joseph gave veneration to our Lord’s body. Mark 16:1; Luke 24:1 - the women came to further anoint Christ’s body even though it had been sealed in the tomb. John 19:39 - Nicodemus donated over one hundred pounds of spices to wrap in Jesus’ grave clothes. This is also veneration of our Lord’s body. Matt. 9:21; Mark 5:28 - the woman with the hemorrhage just sought the hem of Christ’s cloak and was cured. This shows that God uses physical things to effect the supernatural. Acts 19:11-12 - Paul’s handkerchiefs healed the sick and those with unclean spirits. This is another example of physical things effecting physical and spiritual cures. Acts 5:15 - Peter’s shadow healed the sick. This proves that relics of the saints have supernatural healing power, and this belief has been a part of Catholic tradition for 2,000 years. Rev. 6:9 - the souls of the martyrs are seen beneath the heavenly altar. Their bones are often placed beneath altars in Catholic churches around the world. 2 Kings 13:21 - Elisha’s bones bring a man back to life. The saints’ bones are often kept beneath the altars of Catholic churches and have brought about supernatural cures throughout the Christian age. Rom. 13:7; Phil. 2:25-29; Heb. 3:3; 1 Pet. 2:7 - we are taught to honor the people of God and in 1 Cor. 4:16-17; 1 Cor. 11:1-2; Phil. 3:17; 1 Thess. 1:6; 2 Thess. 3:7; Heb. 6:12; Heb. 13:7; James 5:10-11 - we are reminded to imitate them. Keeping relics of the saints serves both to honor and imitate their heroic faith in Christ (just as keeping articles of deceased loved ones helps us honor and imitate them). III. Holy Water Ex. 29:4; Lev. 8:6 - Aaron and his sons were washed in holy water in their consecration to the priesthood. Thus, we see the use of holy water during the beginning of salvation history. Ex. 30:18-19 - the Lord requires Aaron and his sons to wash their hands and feet in holy water before they offered sacrifices to Him. The Church uses holy water for various purposes, and holy water fonts are generally located at the entrance of Catholic churches to be used before the sacrifice of Christ is offered to the Father. Num. 5:17 - here again, the priest uses holy water. God uses natural matter to convey the supernatural, just as God who is Spirit became flesh in Christ Jesus. Num. 8:7 - the Lord says to “sprinkle them with the water of remission.” The Lord uses water, a physical property, to convey His supernatural property of grace. 1 Kings 7:38-39 - in King Solomon’s temple, there were ten large basins of holy water. Holy water has always been used in the context of worship. John 9:6-7 - Jesus uses clay and spittle to heal the blind man’s eyes, and ordered him to wash in the pool of Siloam to effect the cure. Jesus did not need to use spittle, clay and water, but He does to demonstrate that God uses the material things He created to give graces and heal us. John 13:4-10 - the Lord uses water to wash the apostles’ feet to prepare them for their sacramental priesthood. John 19:34 - water and blood flowed from Jesus’ pierced side on the Cross. The Church uses holy water as a symbol of our Lord’s life giving water that flowed from His sacred Heart, and as the property which brings about the power of Jesus Christ Himself, in baptism, the Eucharist, and other sacred rites of the Church.

"in an attempt to be holy enough for God and prove his contrition before God" Few Scriptures for ya: "A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" Protestants constantly claim the command to be perfect = absolute perfection at all times. It doesn't. The whole reason Jesus came was to make our shortcomings able to be had mercy on. But one thing He didn't come to do was to do any 'covering over dung' (fooling God the Father, essentially) or making sin simply tolerable, He came to solve Eden and return us to perfect moral lives. Not sinful but 'Jesus got you covered' lives. Either you remain in a state of innocence via appropriate of Christ's mercy after every wilful sin you commit, or you die not reconciled to God. It's as simple as that. It is appointed a man to die once, and then judgement.

Luther was a heretic. His theological invention of justification by faith alone is an invention that did exist before the 1600s. He was a poorly catechized Augustinian monk that suffered from pride and scrupulosity. This is not an ad hominem argument against Luther's beliefs but it's important to know who to follow. I want to follow Jesus Christ, the apostles and their successors.

Justification by faith was taught by the Apostle Paul, which was long before Augustine or Luther. Roman 3:24: "Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Justification is God's declaration that the demands of His Law have been fulfilled in the righteousness of His Son. The basis for this justification is the death of Christ. We also see in 2 Cor. 5:19: "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them." This reconciliation covers all sin: "For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified." - Heb. 10:14. Apostle Paul wrote Romans around 61-62 AD. Apostle Paul wrote 2 Corinthians between 55-56 AD. Martin Luther lived 1483-1546. Augustine lived - 354-430 AD. I am so glad to hear that you also want to follow Jesus Christ and the Apostles. God is very merciful, by His own choice (Exo. 33:19) and by His very nature (Isaiah 30:18-19). Just think if God were not full of grace/graciousness, where would we be?

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed until now: but refuse profane and old wives’ fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness: for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come. Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation. For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.” ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4:1-10‬ ‭ASV‬‬ www.bible.com/12/1ti.4.1-10.asv While I am not certain it is the woman I am certain that this verse describes the catholic church. @B looo I do trust the Vicar of Christ, He is the Holy Spirit. Jesus said come unto ME and I will give you rest. Jesus never directed anyone to a Pope. The true church is indeed the foundation of truth. Unfortunately, the Roman Catholic church is NOT the true church. The Roman Catholic church was founded 300 years after Jesus death by Emperor Constantine, paganism, compromising/weak Christians and lies. Just because the RCC has been around a long time means nothing. Jesus said He would let the tares grow with the wheat. Matthew 13:24-30. Jesus gave 3 clues to what the true church would look like. one, it would be small (Matthew 22:14 & 7:14) Two, you would know it by it's LOVE. (John 13:35) And three, the true church would be full of tares. (Matthew 13:24-30).

Where the true gospel is preached. "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20) No Pope required. The Roman Catholic church cannot be the true church because the Roman Catholic church does not even know or teach the true gospel. The Roman Catholic Jesus is a false Jesus. The Roman Catholic Jesus can't save anyone from anything. That's why Roman Catholics have so many prayers to Mary, had to invent purgatory, repeating the sacrifice in the Mass, had to invent five extra sacraments etc. etc. etc.

Indulgences are graces that remit the temporal punishment due to sin. Foe example, when you break a window in your home by disobeying your father and playing ball where and when you were told not to, if you ask your father to forgive you, he will, but you still owe him for the window. It is a matter of justice. Therefore, when you are obedient to Christ and confess your sins, to those whom He blew on after the resurrection and said "receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you shall forgive are forgiven and whose sins you shall retain are retained, Christ forgives your sins - provided you confess your sins "to one another" as Christ indicated. While your sins are then forgiven, you still owe God in justice for them. You can pay here by offering your daily trials i.e. crosses, or you can pay later after death since your robes are not quite white enough for you to enter Heaven, that place is called purgatory. Most Christians are not quite perfected in this world and they need further cleansing before they can see God. Indulgences can be used to offer to God atonement for our sins, or for the deceased. This is one of the reasons St. Paul says that he fills up in his flesh what is lacking in the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross, one surely would say nothing can be lacking from what Christ offered on the cross and that would be correct as far as Christ is concerned. What is lacking is the one thing Christ could not do, that would be our sacrifice, our offering of ourselves and our suffering. In effect we attach our suffering to His on the cross in emulation of Him and in obedience to "Take up your cross everyday and follow me." Protestants have little to no theology of suffering, and in my estimation generally are blind to the idea of redemptive suffering in the Christian life, which is why they have odd-ball things like prosperity theology and such, but then with thousands of denominations it should be clear that such a movement is antithetical to Christ's prayer in the garden that they should all be one. Best wishes!

Not at all, Jesus, Jesus redeemed us, by His power alone are we forgiven, but just as your father forgives you for disobedience and tossing a baseball through the window, you still owe your father for breaking the window -2 bucks -20 or whatever. Sin is like that as well, especially among the baptized, what excuse does anyone have for sinning? If you are honest, you will have to admit that pretty much everyone you know is not REALLY ready to see God face-to-face, which is common among Christians, even at death in many circumstances - what then? Purgatory where as St. Paul says we are saved as by passing through a fire - or if you have access to a complete bible you can look to the book of Maccabees and see how those men who were otherwise good died foolishly wearing pagan amulets - sacrifices were offered for them after they died by their Jewish compatriots, so they prayed for the dead. Also, keep in mind that we actually physically die due as punishment for sin - it is called original sin. So, as you can see, just like your earthly father will forgive you for breaking a window, and just like you owe it to him to repair it, you and I and everyone still owe God, in justice, for our sins. The more we become like Jesus, the more likely we have expiated our sins, by carrying our crosses and offering it up to the Father in imitation of Jesus, who Himself had no sin, the more we offer ourselves like Jesus, as He said to do, the more likely we can die and go directly to Heaven. When you or I die, we will be judged by God, as scripture says "by the light we have" so each will get a fair judgment and each will see fully who God is, where they failed, etc. And by the way, everything you have ever done - will be universally known by absolutely everyone else. Jesus told us to carry our own crosses DAILY and follow Him, that's what it is about.

John jon “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:9-17‬ ‭ I know of another priest today who stands each day offering a new sacrifice. Jesus offered himself once and for all and said at the cross IT IS FINISHED. unless there is a spot I read over where He said after we do our part, which I don’t think I missed that. Jesus is our offering and our sacrifice that GOD gave. If you would like to try and pay your way to fix your windows of sins, by all means you do what you feel is best and what your institution tells you. As for me and my family, we will serve the LORD and we will abide in His Word and be His disciples, learning His Word each day and trusting only in Him and His sacrifice. Only Him, if any of it were on me, haha well I wouldn’t have a snowballs chance in a bonfire!

When you are baptized you are baptized into Christ and the stain of original sin is removed, that is what Christ did. As for sins YOU commit after that, you may receive forgiveness -assuming you are obedient to Christ and confess them as HE said to do, to those HE gave the power to forgive them, HE did not give that power to you or me HE gave it to HIS apostles who continue to this day as Bishops of the Catholic Church - Catholic priests off the ONE and ONLY never repeated sacrifice of Christ on the cross - which means they stand in obedience to HIS COMMAND to "Do This In Remembrance of Me" They offer the SAME not new sacrifice to the Father. Everyone who has sinned can be forgiven but they owe in justice to God - your logic and theology is flawed and is self-refuting since if you are forgiven your sins and have no punishment coming - then you would not die, which you will, ergo you owe a debt which you will pay for by death, however, you may owe more, which is why, if you are properly disposed you may end up in purgatory, where ironically, only Catholics will pray for your release, since your relatives will not apparently believe the scripture related to purgatory. And yes, God will not remember our sins, but that does not free you of the temporal punishment due to your sinful behavior it is JUSTICE, which is quite elusive in this world but not the next. Should you like to NOT have to suffer such justice you can by the performance of certain acts ameliorate the temporal suffering owed in justice to God by...drumroll please.. indulgences. As for abiding in the Word of the Lord, you should consult those who put the bible together by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit i.e. the Catholic Church who ALONE has the commission directly from Christ to Teach. Rebel German priests and fornicating kings of England notwithstanding. PS I would have responded sooner but lucky for you I am not getting any notices of responses to my comments, something I am sure the google people manipulate quite to their own desires in order to suppress free exchange of ideas. Purgatory is quite real and you should be happy it is there, it is unlikely you or most people you know would merit direct entrance to Heaven at the moment of death, and in your view, the only other place is Hell. When we sin we owe God for the disruption in His plan, for offending Him, as I said and has been the continuous teaching for 2000 years being forgiven and paying for the debt are not the same thing.

@@theextreme7134 Why do you believe the Roman Church hijacked the Early Church, and when and how? I think if you look at the very earliest records we have of the Early Church (the Didache, the letter of Clement to the Corinthians, Sts Polycarp, Irenaeus, Ignatius of Lyon and so on) you will find that they were very Catholic. Equally even as you go latter you won't find anything resembling Protestantism until the 900s at least (even in parts of the world far beyond the reach of Rome such as India and Ethopia after the rise of Islam). What pagan rituals do you believe have been mixed into the Catholic faith? Also the notion that the Church murdered 50 million people ever, let alone during the "Dark Ages" is simply not true. Not only would that have been a simply astounding portion of the total population of all of Europe (broadly defined) even if one elongates the "Dark Ages" but the level of organisation and centralisation such Mass killing and coordination repression would have required simply didn't exist before the advent of the state (17th Century at the earliest) and the Industrial Revolution. The reality is that outside of a very small number of campaigns against heretical movements such as the Cathars (who were not proto-protestants, but I'll count them in order to give your case the best hearing) which were tied into local and national politics and were also part of wars, there was never a single organised or systematic suppression, let alone killing, of people resembling later Protestants until after the Reformation. Those groups which were repressed were small and very much not like modern Protestants in terms of doctrine.

The centralization of the Catholic Church coupled with the political power it held led to a lot of corrupt people taking it over. The protestant reformation was an extremist backlash to a real problem. Ideally the "rebels" (what became the protestants) should of reached out and contacted those in the church that were not corrupt and fixed the problem by removing those abusing their power. A reformation was inevitable, it's a shame it had to play out the way it did, because ideally it could of been just the church cleaning up it's act. I can't help but wonder if there were dark agents on both sides fueling the turmoil in order to divide Christianity.

Protestant Reformation started in 1517 AD, which is 463 yrs later. Please know this is documented information, so let us "walk in peace with other" as Christ Jesus calls us to. And so by that, the pope has spoken "ex-cathedra", regarding the Faith, regarding Salvation, that a person can obtain salvation through works, which is a blatant HERESY ! And also contradicted other popes who previously said there is no Salvation outside our catholic Cult. So there goes your Sham!!! Refuted!! Did you hear that ? There goes your ex-cathedra in the gutter which is where it belongs ( I mean was in the gutter anyways). "If people can live without meanness, malice, and falsehood in their hearts, yet might not be Christians, that judgement is left to God Himself at final judgement." This shows just how clueless you are whatsover of what the gospel is all about. This shows what happens when you follow pagan freemasonic Charlatans pigs instead of God's word. You become a dumpyard of heresies. THERE IS NO SALVATION WITHOUT CHRIST!!! My goodness!!! Salvation is not of works. Your righteousness are "as filthy rags before Him" Isaiah 64:6 "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away." To enter heaven and be with God, one has to be perfect, just like God is perfect. Didn't you read God say "Be ye Holy as I am Holy"?? 1 Peter 1:16 'because it is WRITTEN (see written and not said by some charlatans), “Be holy, for I am holy.” ' "Be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect" Matthew 5:48 "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." But this is God's testimony Against Man: Rom 3:10 - Rom 3:11 "As it is WRITTEN (see as it is written not as some Charlatans said): “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God." There is "none" who does Good. None. Romans 3:12 "They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” And please don't do this "it's for God to Judge" Yes, it's for Him to judge and He already HAS judged and this is what He said: John 3:18 “He who BELIEVES in Him(CHRIST) is NOT CONDEMNED; but he who does not believe IS CONDEMNED ALREADY, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." Those who believe are Saved. Those who don't are Condemned. Jesus didn't die a horrible death and suffer the Infinite wrath of God if people could go to heaven by some silly deeds. God's salvation is not bought my goods works. Only the blood of the Infinite son of God can purchase it, not some so called "good deeds" of sinful men. Only God is Good. When people call themselves good, they are speaking in himan terms. But that's NOT the real good. To be really Good means to be as good as God Himself. (Matthew 19:17)" God alone is Good" If you stand there like the Pharisees and like the Pharisee said in Luke 18:9-14, Believe in your Goodness, then you're doomed. You will face God's Infinite wrath for every single of your sins throughout Eternity. And no one is even near that. We have Infinitely fallen short of it and not like "oh I almost got it" . Which is why the Bible says we have fallen short of His Glory. Rom 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible ( i.e. if there is any other way in which man may be saved ), let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” But guess what? He suffered! He bled! He died! Because there is No other way than CHRIST. John 14: 6“I am THE [ONLY] way, THE truth and THE life. No one comes to the Father except through me(ONLY) !" And if you want to continue following pedophiles and makeup excuses, don't Repent and Believe in Christ Alone for salvation, you have no Salvation, No hope, No more hope than Satan, but Just a looking forward to an Eternity full of continuous despair and anguish and torment. You're done for Eternity.

The same assimilation also happened to chinese Buddhism where they label their old gods with Buddhist figures. @The Gooberment-Sucks "alray , the entire theme of the Bible from start to finish is a faith based salvation. Not just a single verse in romans." Pretty sure he said quite clearly "faith ALONE" Justification by faith and justification by faith alone are not the same. No Christian in history ever believed in faith alone, excluding works. They simply reject, like St. Paul, any and all works done thought to earn anything, least of all salvation, from God. That's not why Christians do good works. They do good works because Christ commanded them to. As the Council of Trent says: "If any one saith, that Christ Jesus was given of God to men, as a redeemer in whom to trust, and not also as a legislator whom to obey; let him be anathema." Jesus didn't say 'Unless you forgive your brother PERFECTLY EVERY TIME WITHOUT EXCEPTION' but 'Unless you forgive' (i.e. withhold forgiveness; have bad will instead of will to do the right thing at the very least). He said good works which we are commanded to do do NOT entitle us to anything, since, "we have done only what it was our obligation to do anyway." The only occurence of "faith alone" in Scripture is an explicit, clear rejection of it: "You see then, [O vain man], that a man is justified by works, and NOT BY FAITH ALONE."

@@user-ew8tf3qp3o , Jealousy in this case, is based on Thou shalt not covet your neighbor's goods. While there's nothing wrong in liking or admiring your neighbor's possessions, we need to do what it takes to earn them, if we want to possess them ourselves. We also need to understand what it takes to earn them. In my experience, Protestants are always throwing shade on Catholics for our grand churches, without realizing that its their own shortcomings that have led to their lack of success i.e. they don't know what the true church of Christ is supposed to be. Catholic churches are 'mega' because we believe it is the dwelling place of the Lord in the Eucharist. The biblical references for this are numerous. So the best church we can build the better. That's also why the containers used to hold His Body and Blood are usually of gold. In the OT, the word of God was present in the temple of Jerusalem. In the same way, Jesus the Word of God is now present in the Catholic Church. Did your pastor tell you this? If more Protestants knew this, they would not have so much ill-will towards Catholics for the grandness of our Churches.

The late RC Sproul said on a number of occasions that at the Council of Trent (1545-1563) the Roman Catholic Church put a curse on the true Biblical Gospel. If anyone says that people are saved by grace alone through faith alone on Jesus Christ alone, "let him be anathema." The decrees of the Trent have never been rescinded. How can anyone be a part of a "church" that curses the gospel of Jesus Christ? Paul said that if anyone comes to you and brings another "gospel", let him be accursed. Gal 1:8-9 The RCC is under the curse of God for leading millions of people away from the true gospel and the teachings of the Word of God. Let us pray that many RCCs will read their Bibles and have the Holy Spirit open their spiritual eyes to the truth and be saved from the wrath of God.

@@enkhyy Right, which is why it's not a doctrine of the Church that you should "lay up" your riches... AT BEST you'd have an argument that Catholics are not living according to their own teaching (see above) but it would still be the Church. I.e. "All things therefore whatsoever they shall say to you, observe and do: but according to their works do ye not; for they say, and do not." No Catholics think it's OK to "lay up your treasure on earth." Besides, in context "lay up your treasure" means 'where your heart is' not possessing some gold or whatnot, or even lots. It means being the kind of person we call 'a rich man.' A man with lots of money isn't too fat and so it's difficult for him to enter heaven, it's difficult because he is too invented in them. The Church isn't 'invested' in having lots of money, _it just does._ And it's not like priests are supposed to buy fancy cars or anything. Most have no more to spare than anyone else working does, and they "make their living" from the business of preaching the gospel and ministry (I can't speak to 95% of the clergy nowadays, though). That is, 'lay not [on earth] but in heaven' is the meaning, not, 'do not lay anything on the ground which is worth lots of money.' You get the point.

They singlehandedly copied and preserved it (it existing only in its copies, since the original is long, long gone). The Vatican state is a recent invention, of course it's separable from the Church.
