Anders Frederik Emil Victor Schau Lassen VC, MC & Two Bars (22 September, 1920 - 9 April, 1945) is a Danish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
After numerous dangerous missions behind enemy lines in british service as a commando soldier he was 24 years old, and a temporary major in the General List, commanding a squadron of the Special Boat Service*. when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC:
On 9 April 1945 at Lake Comacchio, Italy, on Operation Roast, Major Lassen was ordered to take a patrol and raid the north shore of the lake, causing as many casualties and as much confusion as possible to give the impression of a major landing.
In the face of overwhelming enemy numbers he fulfilled his mission, three enemy positions being wiped out, and when he then was mortally wounded he refused to be evacuated so that the withdrawal should not be impeded and his men's lives endangered.
* which was formed from the Special Boat Squadron of No. 1 SAS- Special Air Service Regiment during the Second World War.
This is to make a living memory of a countryman of whom we can be nothing but very proud.

Some years ago there was a danish TV documentary about Lassen and his german relatives, and as far as i remember they knew each other very well, they "nearly" grew up together, but when germany invaded denmark , axel kept a distance to his danish relatives, because he thought they would stand in a bad light, if they mingled with the germans, and axel was really sad about it, according the documentary he was a real gentleman

this was a truly amazing family. his first cousin was a german officer in ww2 and had volunteered to sacrifice his life in an attempt to kill hitler, but the plan was aborted. i can't believe someone has'nt made a movie about anders brave exploits.

Lassen cut throats and wrote in his diary how it's the hardest thing to live with he also became addicted to amphetamines due to taking them on operations

im confused victor. im american and my interest in lassen came from reading bout the von stauffenburg conspiracies, which led me to axel Bussche-Streithorst, which in turn led me to anders lassen. i had never heard of him before and found it unbelieveable considering his story. i've found 1 page on the net about some of the ops around greece which anders was involved in and thats bout all. in your post above are you saying that Streithorst was in denmark pre-invasion to help the germans prepare?

no offense victor190779--but anders lassen was danish so of course he was in denmark at the date you give. he was not german, his cousin was german. anders was killed by the germans in a operation in italy. he was one of the allies greates heroes in ww2.

ofcause i can call me skagenin, but skagen ind was fighting Nazi germany, and i'm proud of it, but again it was an other germany
