How do you even begin to design something that is only 4 separate parts into something so complex and difficult. It is truly impressive. I do not have every Hanayama puzzle, but I have to agree with you. Still, there are some hanayama puzzles that do have a story or logical solution. I do software architecture, engineering and I bought a whole bunch of Hanayama puzzles to get my head into a 3D volume solving mode after watching all your puzzle videos (none of the solutions, that's my job haha). One thing I find super valuable is the ability to track state of a puzzle, but before that, one needs to be able to name pieces, and learn the uniqueness of each piece. I like watching your solves after I've solved it to find out the differences in the wordings you use to describe the parts, orientations (and where to hold), and moves. For example, I found the linked chain the most valuable moment to track orientation as I was nearly finished solving, so I tracked exactly how the chain was, but I did it differently than you: I laid the chain flat on the ground but made certain all the flat sides were facing upward, a simple slight rotation difference but otherwise same as yours. Also the orientation of the Hourglass (texture side vs flat text side) for insertion/removal moment of the Han piece. This way I tend to almost have the reassembly memorized by the time I get to the final solution. I find your videos tremendous, wonderful. Keep on puzzling, friend.

This puzzle makes me think those other puzzles, that I thought were tough. Now, I know those other puzzles, were easy. And I'll bet that Hanayama has even a more difficult puzzle he is just not releasing yet. I met a girl who solved this puzzle in 15 minutes. And she had never seen it before. She went through all my puzzles and solved them all. In a few minutes each. Somebody like her would pay big money for a puzzle she would find challenging. Hanayama could sell a difficult puzzle for a big price. And sell them fast. If I met a girl like that, there must be a lot of people like her.

A couple days ago, I spotted 5 hanayama puzzles in Walmart and just had to get one. Would have bought all 5 but didn't have the $50 to do so. So I settled on a level 3 puzzle. I don't have the box and don't remember the name of it though I can say it's the disassembly reassembly one with the man and woman symbols. I have to agree with your opinion of the hanayama puzzles. It feels very nice in the hands and is will made. Anyway, I didn't time myself but adding my fiddling with it last night and actively working on it today, I'd estimate it took me about 1 hour to solve it. I found the way the pieces are made with the various notches and subtle details is very ingenious. Now I REALLY want to go back and get the others. To bad I don't have the money to do it right now. ☹ Oh well. Maybe one day.
