@@ErikTheCleric Well, I hope he can get over the timer like in helper to hero. That it bothered him before was really silly. Normally you ignore the timer knowing that it's literally only for speedrunning, which you can get drawn into on subsequent playthroughs. The time on the first playthrough is either a novelty or a baseline. Perhaps he'll discover how silly of a complaint it is while playing those modes!

the entry gimmicks got stronger across this trilogy, The super abilities were limited but flashy and occasionally compelling, the super inhale in triple deluxe felt like it was always the most fun version of the Super abilities each time. And then the mechs in planet robobot ended up being an AMAZING core gameplay addition that takes the flash from the previous two and makes it a genuinely deep extension to Kirby's abilities

Yeah, absolutely. The masks definitely allowed for a lot more variety without taking up dev time, but unlockable bonus characters would've been sweet. The things Arlo doesn't like about Kirby is having to learn the strengths/weakness of the copy abilities & losing them when taking damage? The damage thing can feel random, losing abilities sometimes but not others, but learning the movesets in a game that can be beaten without using a single one seems like a small ask of the player.
@cragl3yman343
@cragl3yman343 Жыл бұрын
I've learned to appreciate each and every ability. Sure some are better than others, but like there's so many possible ways to take each challenge on and it's always fair.
@Buglin_Burger7878
@Buglin_Burger7878 Жыл бұрын
You mentioned the problem. "learning the movesets in a game that can be beaten without using a single one" Why spend the time/effort, especially since when learning you get hit hence losing it hence discourages learning. It is the same thing with why some people take issue with durability systems. It discourages learning and experimentation because you either can't afford to lose it or it is so common it isn't worth trying to learn.
@SupremeMarioGamer
@SupremeMarioGamer Жыл бұрын
@@Buglin_Burger7878 You do realize that (a) the abilities are plentiful & have complete movesets on the pause menu, (b) enemies respawn by moving away slightly from their spawn, (c) it's not difficult to regain your lost ability thanks to a generous amount of invincibility frames after getting hit, & (d) Arlo criticized the lack of challenge yet thinks balancing abilities & not getting hit in freaking KIRBY too much hassle.

@@roulette43 well, in any case, I hope your financial situation improves in the next few years as you continue to work hard 💪 If I were you, I’d definitely watch out for the next Kirby game, as it may incorporate more elements from Magolor Epilogue than you may be expecting. HAL - the developers of the series - tend to utilize the minigames and side games they create as experimental stepping stones for their future projects. For example, Forgotten Land’s 3d engine was first tested in a minigame of 2016’s Kirby: Planet Robobot. Further 3d platforming and combat experiences were tested in 2017’s Kirby: Battle Royale, Blowout Blast, and 2018’s Kirby: Star Allies. It is highly probable that we see a reintegration of a more advanced skill tree and combo system into a new mainline Kirby game’s side mode, or a side game structured around those concepts 👀 👏

While the criticism of Kirby games forcing you to change copy abilities is valid, I’d recommend you try and complete stages without doing the copy ability that the stage sometimes pushes you to change to. You’ll see that the stages actually offer a unique perspective when you attempt to complete it with a different copy ability. While Kirby games do require you to change copy abilities sometimes for collectables, most of the time, the game wants you to experience different abilities and see how they interact with different stages.

As someone who played the original 12 years ago, I can say that this remaster was incredibly good in my opinion. From the graphical improvements to the extra modes, it was super fun and very replayable. Especially when it comes to the boss rush modes, I'm very big into those challenges when it comes to Kirby games. The True Arena definitely caught me by surprise on how challenging it was (before I discovered that King Dedede is absolutely busted in this game. Now my personal best time is currently 15:00!) I wasn't expecting to fight all the alternate bosses, on top of the DX versions! And there's just one small gripe I have about one of my favorite copy abilities in the Kirby series; the Hammer ability. In my opinion, I hate that you have to charge the Hammer Flip move now in order to maximize damage instead of it being automatic like in the older games. Don't know if they did that to nerf the move, but it can be a little annoying to use against certain enemies at times. I've noticed that it's been a trend since Star Allies (but in Star Allies HF was pretty useless anyway since you could just spam Hammer Throw without losing your ability). Other than that, I really loved this remaster, and I only hope that Nintendo either ports Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot.

It would probably be $15 to $20 and have 15 to 20 minigames with a mix of old and new and some missions to give some insensitive to play.

Arlo should be happy to know that Magolor's Epilogue is actually really similar modes included in some of the other great Kirby games, like Planet Robobot.

I have a lot of respect for you, since you didn't just say you didn't like Star Allies, but you also explained why it doesn't work for you. I don't worry if a game is too easy, I look for fun. But the way you explained it, I can see why Star Allies just didn't click. If I were to make a suggestion... Maybe Kirby's Epic Yarn might be a little more up your speed? Forgive me if you have played it because I am still very new to your videos! But the fact Kirby has a very distinct moveset in that game, the fact you seem to enjoy exploring levels, it just might work. While you can't die, it is as hard as you make it to be. Although the mini games might get on your nerves, it's optional so there's that!

As someone who grew up playing return to dreamland on my wii, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Until forgotten land I had really lost interest in other Kirby games but I always enjoy playing return to dreamland and the deluxe version is just a straight upgrade.

the fact that even seven year olds can tell the difference when a game runs at 60 fps (even if they dont know the terminology) is proof that it's not some esoteric thing most people won't notice and really should be an industry standard

I wasn't sold on the outlines either, but my personal theory is that they're done like that because one of the only issues I found with the original Wii game was when you have 4 people playing, it can be easy to lose track of your specific location or get too clumped up with the others, so the outlines can help a lot in that regard.

"But boy, it does make me sad that there isn't more Kirby content out like [Magalor Epilogue] out there .... But if more past or future games offer up experiences like this, consider me interested." Well boy, howdy do I got good news for you! Past Kirby games have been including bonus modes starring another character in the game! Usually it's a Time Attack with non-canon story bits, enhanced bosses and new bosses like Galacta Knight. I don't recall any having the indepth upgrade system like Magalor got but you do get the one non changing moveset. Let me break it down for ya: Meta Knightmare: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland's levels in one go as Meta Knight! Meta Knightmare Ultra: Time Attack through all Kirby Super Star Ultra games COMBINED into one massive run as Meta Knight! Dededetour!: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Triple Deluxe in one go as King Dedede! Meta Knightmare Returns: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Planet Robobot as Meta Knight! Also special shout out to Kirby Mass Attack and its extra games being completely different genres yet still being fairly fleshed out despite just being side content. You get pinball, a shmup, and a mini-RPG like experience focused on battles alongside the smaller stuff.

My only real disappointment with this game as a remake of the original is there are just a couple little bits of content that they could have included to make it the truly definitive version that aren't there. There's a minigame in the Wii version where you fight some mech versions of classic Kirby bosses by shooting at them with the pointer, and I remember having fun with that one. Especially with how many minigames are in Deluxe, it's strange that one from RtDL Wii isn't there. There are also some extra ability challenges as a bonus in the Kirby Dream Collection, including some pretty neat races against Magolor. With those using the RtDL mechanics and aesthetic, it would've been nice to see them wrapped into the remake since they always sort of felt like honorary parts of the game.

my favorite youtuber covering my favorite videogame!! happy day!! yeah, if the copy ability cycling and floating in 2D are a hassle then it might not be worth pushing through too too much of the 2D library. if you were to do one more, it might be worth hitting the ~fan favorite~ planet robobot for its exceptional mech ability twist, different aesthetic, fantastic story/music and honestly maybe even the bonus mode! im not sure how much better meta knightmare or dedede tour would hit compared to guest star mode, but theyre nice multi-hour experiences all with one character truly I do wonder if 2D could become a style for experimentation going forward. dont count out the idea of side character games with new mechanics, this might be a bowsers fury moment where they want to test how we like magolor.. prologue!

Oh yeah, that's true that if the copy ability cycling and floating are a hassle for him, it might not be too worth pushing through for him, though I do want to see him try out Kirby Planet Robobot, as I think that one is really, really good. I agree that if Arlo were to try one more 2D Kirby, that it might be worth it for him to try out Planet Robobot. Also, I like the Kyoko profile icon. Madoka Magica is my favorite anime.

Cool review! By the way, both 3DS Kirby games have extra modes where you play as one character with a more set moveset, Dedede for Triple Deluxe and Meta Knight for Planet Robobot. Can't remember if they're post game only, but they seem like they'd be up your alley with how you liked Magolor Epilogue
