SUMMARY: EF5 Tornadoes, The worst of the worst, reserved for some of the most destructive of tornadoes, like Moore of 2013 and Moore of 1999. There are, in fact, some states that have never had an EF5 Before, with the state(s) this scenario occurs in being two of them. what amplifies it even further is that tornadoes can be extremely difficult to see or confirm at night, a noteworthy example: Greensburg 2007, when an EF5 Tore through the town of Greensburg, Kansas.
However, what if Charlotte, North Carolina, home to quite possibly a haven of recreational stuff like auto-sport, collegiate studies, corporate headquarters and other things, in the state of North Carolina, Fell victim to one of them?
I've decided to turn back the clock to 2013 for this one, so the CRS is in play here.
Note - A Certain County is in play at a later portion of the video. If you can, refrain from using the caps lock.

A strong ef4 tornado hit Union County(just to the east of Mecklenburg County) back in the late 80s, so the possibility of a strong tornado rolling into Charlotte isn't completely far fetched. In fact, if my memory serves me right, NC has seen more f4/ef4 tornados(at least a dozen) than any other state, surprisingly enough; so there's a statistical probability of such a tornado hitting Charlotte. If such a scenario were to play out, and southeastern Mecklenburg County and western/northwestern Union County were to get hit, the devastation would likely be unfathomable. A LOT of people, at least a couple hundred thousand, live in that region, and in all likelihood, that tornado would give the Joplin, MO storm a run for its money in terms of death toll and property damage.

Many years ago, I was in Greensboro North Carolina and I had been to a movie close to the hotel where my dad and I were staying at. He had to fly up to Michigan for an emergency business trip. I was with him on another business trip. When the movie ended and I left the theater, the sky was black. I hurried back to the hotel and turned on the TV just in time to hear a tornado warning being issued for our area. That was pretty intense. Fortunately, we did not get a tornado but the storm was very severe. It meant business. I did hear that, after the storm has passed, and area just outside of Greensboro was struck by twister. I think the damage was just minor and there were no injuries. However, it was still crazy and, like I said, the storm was very serious.

Hi there! I’m pretty brand new to this genre (?) of video and I’m pretty hooked. I’m a meteorology major in school, and I’m fascinated by these scenarios, as they give me food for thought for thinking outside the box in terms of what I as a future meteorologist can war-game with...if that makes sense. Thanks for having the imagination to come up with and produce these, they couldn’t have been easy. That said, I want to provide some constructive criticism in terms of this video. I have tinnitus, and the “buzzing” sound prevalent in the whole video makes it hard to focus on the words being spoken. I imagine it’s to simulate the somewhat inconsistent quality of reception of NOAA Weather Radio, but for me it’s somewhat distracting. I don’t want to make it more than it is, since this and other videos of yours are spectacular, and downright bone-chilling to imagine going through. If I may also offer some suggestions, I think I have a couple ideas that might drastically improve the sense of realism and even further set the tone for these severe weather scenarios... I’d like to see some additional buildup of the events leading up to the event. Things like forecast model output/guidance with TV meteorologists going over that. SPC Day 3, 2, and day 1 outlooks and discussions, and maybe the incorporation of social media posts shown in a “screenshot” style. Kind of like what you’d see on TV during severe weather coverage. Just my two cents. Sorry for the novel, and keep up the great work!!

Very good dramatization. But the NWS is very careful about the wording they use when issuing watches and warnings. Look up "impact based warnings." These began in 2012. The watch issued would likely include the phrase, "This is a Particularly Dangerous Situation" (PDS), as would the warnings for large tornadoes. The warnings would include wording like, "Impact: You are in a life threatening situation" and "Source: Storm spotter confirmed tornado."
@easalert88
@easalert88 5 жыл бұрын
At the time back in 2013, only the Central Region had the Impact Based Warning System, Particularly a few offices like Wichita and Pleasant Hill, for example. Having seen warnings issued by Greenville Spartanburg from 2013, I had a pretty good template to go off of when making this, especially considering how it was a few years out before offices in the Eastern and Southern Regions would implement the Impact Based Warning stuff. The same thing can be said for Raleigh as well, and their templates for Tornado Emergencies especially helped in the later portion of this scenario.

Never witnessed an F-5 Tornado. Most of the ones that hit Dothan were F-0 to F-1 and they only clipped us. Been lucky when it comes to major tornadoes coming near us. God has his protective hand on this town and we'll keep asking him to do so. F-5 Tornadoes are scary looking and I hope that I never go through one. Keep up the good work on these EAS stories. The next EAS story should be in the WDC area where a massive F-6 Tornado develops in Virginia and go through WDC and reduce that corrupted town to ruins. Speaking of the May 31st, 2013 tornado that struck El Reno, Oklahoma; many storm observers and severe weather enthusiasts believe that the tornado should have been given a rating of EF5 by the National Weather Service; but because the Enhanced Fujita Scale rates tornadoes on the damage they cause rather than the wind speeds, it was quite controversially rated as an EF3 due to having stayed over open fields and impacting very few structures.

You know what else makes Southeast US tornadoes more dangerous than their plain counterparts other than tending to be more nocturnal? More trees and hills in Dixie Alley and the parent supercells tend to be low-base, high-precipitation storms. Tornadoes can hide very, very well in Dixie Alley. Also, from just living here, people don't seem to heed tornado warnings much because we haven't seen a lot of tornadoes around the Piedmont.

I forgot to mention that Dixie Alley tornadoes also tend to move faster. They like to go interstate speeds (60 mph) versus the usually more subtle speeds in the Great Plains. So we have hidden tornadoes that prefer the dark that also like to move fast.

In a sense, when it comes to buildings being defoliated, complete and utter devastation occurs as a direct resultvof impact.

But they don't have foliage. Trees are defoliated, buildings are raised or leveled. Not trolling, just providing feedback to add to the realism of your future productions. Hope this helps.

while i get its a scenario, if thats real life, most likely the community will come together to help those trapped, injured or worse. its happened so many times in oklahoma, texas, tennessee, arkansas, and many states that experienced natural disasters. i doubt nobodywill be there to help them, because the community will come together. just my critical point, and a good reminder that this is ultimately a scenario. i wouldn't mind it tho if it was a tad more realistic tho, just for the extra thrill i get from being scared. ;D
