These two brushes, despite being quite basic, are still among the most powerful, versatile, and applicable brushes in digital art. I will be quickly going over how to use these two brushes, and what makes them so special.
Hopefully you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching :)

Just FYI-- WLOP didn't use those exact brushes but very close. The one he used is a textured hard round brush that he labels as 'skin' in his brushes that he distributes out. You can still achieve the same level of style but just be aware it won't have that grainy natural look.

Grainy? You mean noise? I think you can do the filter noise in Photoshop

Alpha lock + Clipping mask is really the best. I always try the selection tool, but my selection is so wobbly, not following the actual lineart. Don't get how people can select exactly the area that they want.
@KraymerArt
@KraymerArt Жыл бұрын
yea same I much prefer alpha lock & clipping mask, it would be nice if procreate selection tool had brush stabilization or if there was magnetic lasso

you really just have to do a lot to get used to that style my teacher is using a screenless tablet while lassoing and it work well for him

It's all in getting muscle memory for drawing. Do lots of blind contour studies and the muscle memory will magically appear.

If you make the hard round brush out of a rectangle shape you also get precise corners really quick. Can recommend Sinix' basic procreate brush set.

I honestly love brushes that have sharp edges like a rectangle shaped brush. I personally find that there is more control when you're blocking in colours. And yea sinix brush set is quite nice, has some pretty unique brushes

Ive found that setting the round brush to a square or even triangle helps with sharp edges, pairing these two with a blending brush or a bit of texture is quite nice too but its personal preferece at this point

I just use hard square brush with a grain I added. I think making your own hard brushes feel pretty nice to use and the grain looks less unnatural

I’ve been recently avoiding using the lasso and soft round brush combo because I’ve been inspired by classical traditional artists. But I wonder how they achieved the same effect in real life at the time, because even though I’m digital, it’s a real struggle to paint stuff like eye balls without the combo.
@KraymerArt
@KraymerArt Жыл бұрын
yea it is pretty hard to do soft transitions without the soft round brush, but I think the artists in the past just managed to smoothly blend the paints together by going back and forth in order to get the same type of effect
@BAGG8BAGG

Paint moves, pixels don't. With watercolour you lay down a water layer and add your paint to it to blend colours, with gouache and oil, you can blend the paint whilst it is on the page if it is thick enough.

i think that you shouldn't look at digital art in the same way you do with traditional art. I paint with acrylics traditionally and with a xiaomi tablet digitally. As I gained more experience with both mediums, i realized that the ways to approach mediums are extremely different from each other. I tried replicating the techniques i used with traditional art in digital art, and the result became muddy and weird. I eventually learned to do things differently when it comes to painting both digitally and traditionally. If you really want to learn how the old masters really painted, then i would suggest you try traditional painting! Traditional painting can be difficult at first but its rlly fun when you learn the techniques nd such !

Prediction: The 2 best brushes are the basic hard edge round brush and the airbrush. Edit: Result: Yeah.. It wasn't called airbrush, but it's almost the same. I suppose technically the "airbrush" should be one where it continues to apply it when you hold it down. So yes.. hard round brush + soft round brush. :D

Wlop has his own small brushpack that you can find by searching "wlop brushes" and going to the deviantart link, which is a post that wlop himself posted and links to his free sample brush pack (I would post the link, but I'm not sure if KZbin would like that very much lol). The ones I talked about in this video are just the basic hard round and soft round brush, and all of them are pretty much the same as each other (can be found in any software)

Not a dummy question! I haven't used Krita so can't say for certain, but there should be soft airbrush and hard airbrush - or something very similar - in Krita as well. The main thing that's important is that they have pressure sensitivity to them

using photos of procreate brushes to then have a speed paint in the background of a photoshop program is kinda misleading? In my experience how brushes react in Procreate is way different in feel and application in photoshop. I do think it's great you're using examples of how professionals apply themselves with those brushes however
