That being said, the TV movie was the first thing I ever watched of Doctor Who (people in my highschool and also tumblr were fans back in 2012, so I decided to get into the franchise. I decided instead of starting with classic who or new who, I'd start in between and see how I feel about it. I love it. Paul McGann hooked me.

If anyone feels overwhelmed by how much Eight content there is from BF, Dark Eyes 1 is self-contained and works as a suitable transition point from him to Nine, both because his new look is clearlyforeshadowing Eccleston's and because you can see the ramp-up of conflict with the Daleks into the Time War. It's also the furthest they'd gotten when The Night of the Doctor was written, so it's the latest audio adventure he acknowledges.

I think the price of these things can be the most daunting thing for some so the problem with the box sets is the cost of entry. A lot of this era is available for free on spotify, including the 8th doctor adventures, and theure not that expensive to buy even when you factor in the per episode cost, which is why I say start start at the beginning of the Lucy arc. I wasn't interested in the box sets until I got through the 8th doctor adventures.

@@thatDamnAusWhoFanI really disagree. As someone who just got into big finish about a year ago, I decided to start from the beginning with Storm Warning as well. I found it a little rocky adjusting to the audio medium, but I definitely got the hang of it by the time the story was over. Telling someone to start at Blood of the Daleks to me is like telling someone to skip series one, it doesn't work, you need the trauma of Charley and C'rizz for 8 to work later on, not to mention it is a damn good era, I didn't feel lost once and it's probably my favorite of the 3 I've listened to (just finished Dark Eyes). You'd also be missing at least 4 of the greatest doctor who stories ever imo. Maybe that's just me though, as the Lucie era is still almost as good, although I think it drops off at a certain point before picking back up in the end. McGann is firmly my 2nd favorite doctor behind only Troughton because of the audios, and I liked him in the movie already. I can't recommend enough that people give his start in big finish a shot before skipping ahead.

I came to the BF 8th Doctor audios due to Nicola Walker (having been a long time fan). I’d seen the tv movie back in the day but he hadn’t really solidified as a favourite until Doom Coalition. Went back and listened to Dark Eyes after DC. At first I thought McQueen’s Master was Jacobi’s Master as tonally very similarly theatrically over the top at times. I now have all of EDA from Dark Eyes up to Connections. ‘Albie’s Angels’ by Roy Gill is a fabulous character development continuation for Helen from Gill’s Stranded 2 ‘UNIT Dating’. Also have a few of Eight’s Short Trips stories and a couple Charlie Pollard & Lucie Miller stories. Btw EDA, Paternoster Gang, UNIT (Kate Stewart’s UNIT), Torchwood, and a few other bits & bobs, Big Finish has taken a lot out of my bank account in the past 8-10 years or so. 😂

The national currency of Australia used to be rum what else do people expect? That eulogy scene was too perfect not to put in. War perfectly summed up the 8th doctor. Hes so full of hope. Its one of this greatest assets. He never gives up and always wants to see the nest in people. But hes also incredibly foolish. Giving people who don't deserve it chance after chance only for them to continually betray him or let him down. Thinking he could go on being the passifist adventurer, the dashing hero. Going off having happy go lucky adventures with pretty assistants, where he is admired and praised for saving the day, while everything burns around him and he does nothing to put out the flames before they spread.

Theres also this thing ive noticed with the animated reconstructions is that if you add visuals it can change the feel of a story. Like when I first listened to fury from the deep with the naration its hard to describe the sense of creeping dread it can induce, like thes tendrils of cold damp seaweed slowly wrapping themselves around the narritive. Then I saw the animation and its decent enough animation but its just not the same now

@@thatDamnAusWhoFanYeah, the one where they were in the alternate universe where there was only sound and they were blind most of the time so could only rely on hearing and touch, and he and Charlie had to flay and eat a raw dead body every day to stay alive...and then they merged and Eight didn't want to unmerge because he finally felt like he had a companion that couldn't leave him... that stuff was crazy! And I was there for it! One of the best experimental (heavy on the mental) stories ever! And Eight was morose and cruel and Charlie boxes his ears, metaphorically speaking. And they argue about if he loves her or not and he finally admits his very conflicted feelings for her after verbally tearing her a new one...I mean, dang! I had to listen multiple times cuz I couldn't get over how amazing and crazy and even sexy it was...in AUDIO. You just can't do that one visually. Scherzo, I believe it was. You need to have listened to a lot of their stories first before you tackle that one, because they address a lot of things that went unsaid about their relationship in it. The only sad thing about it is that they never follow up with what happened in any of the subsequent stories. I would have loved to see how their relationship would have changed based on that episode.

The more 8th Doctor Media I consume the more I wish he had end up as the "War Doctor" rather than having it be a seperate incarnation. On a meta level it would address the sort of Limbo State McGann's lack on time on the silver screen has caused while ending with him being acknowledged as the Doctor in a way that he honestly deserves as both the character and the actor himself. I think narratively it just works better overall for Day Of The Doctor as well as the shows future because everything they do with The War Doctor would work better if done with 8 as there is less disconnect. It would also mean that Incarnations maintained their value for at least a little while longer. It feels like ever since the War Doctor was introduced and the 13 Limit was shattered we've been getting Dozens of weird off-shoot incarnations that are effectively wasted due to lack of use beyond a handful of stories at best. It would make 11's Swan Song less convoluted, The Day Of The Doctor Less Messy, Give the 8th Doctor the closest he could ever really get to a proper TV Outing beyond a Movie and a Minisode (as Sadly he seems too Old to properly come back for Live Action when compared to how he looked in Night Of The Doctor) and bring more attention and love to the Audios, TV Movie and Classic Who. Although it would deprive us of John Hurts phenomenal work as the War Doctor and Big Finish would milk the Time War to hell and back 10x more than they already have.
@thatDamnAusWhoFan Жыл бұрын
I would have loved to see him in the 50th but it would have been a very different special. 10 and 11 wouldn't look upon him with nearly as much shame and although narratively it is pleasing for the most passifist incarnation to go against every principle and take up arms, I hate the idea of 8 going to war.

Oh absolutely the man ages like Wine but if his recent cameo is a good reference point unless they do it very soon I think he'll reach a point where he just looks too different for it to fit in his existing timeline the same way the rest of the "Classic" Doctors eventually did so. Don't get me wrong I'd never complain myself I just think it adds to the list of reasons why it wouldn't be done. They did what?!?
@kanashimi4356 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it would probably have felt even more forced than if they'd done it with Eccleston. The 8th Doctor properly being in the Time War does provoke mixed feelings for sure , I dont really blame Moffat for going the War Doctor Route. I imagine it would however be especially effective for those familiar with the TV Movie but not the Audios. I think what it comes down to is the fact that as great as it could be, it feels like too much of a progression and range for one single Incarnation to pull off, even with an Actor as Talented as McGann. Which is strange because the Range of 8 so far is what draws me so strongly to him. Although there are other incarnations I might currently prefer for me it feels like 8 and 12 are the two Doctors that encompass the most range of what that character is and can be.

John Hurt was british acting royalty and the 9th doctor in his first episode acts as if he's newly regenerated when he comes across a mirror in rose's flat and comments in his nose and ears. I would have liked to see 9 come back too but John Hurt is brilliant as the war doctor and any franchise touched by his presence should be honoured.

It's the music you have at the start when you talk about the 8th life it's a bit loud, much as I like David Tennant it would have been nice to see Paul Mcgann turn up instead he was never given a chance maybe next Nov we see him

What is the music that plays when talking about the tragedy of the 8th Doctors life called?

I personally wouldn't recommend Lucy miller , to me she is very unlikeable and for the whole of her first run she hated the Doctor. Jump in with storm warning with Charley, they maybe over 20 years old by now but these stories are great well written as a whole and great fun.

Given the premise I honestly found it to be better than expected but then again I love ne some pc Andy. I also enjoyed seeing this incarnation who seems to never slow down, being forced to stop and stay in one time and place for a while. It made for some good story potential and some decent character examination, although I do get that its not for everyone. I recommend doom coalition, you might get more out of that

I wouldn't mind an 8th Doctor series. I wouldn't mind if they just erased Jodie shitaker, kept the 13 life limit and had Susan or Rhomana take over as the Doctor. Then you can have your female doctor, the lore is kept and the show can continue with the Doctor enjoying his retirement somewhere... Or come back as the Valyard but only to keep the Sixth Doctor on his toes.

There's really no need to shit on Jodie. She's great when she has better direction and better writing to work with, and she could have been an amazing doctor. At times she was. The problem was the writing and the general direction they were taking the show. Someone else taking up the mantle wouldn't work. It goes against the established lore. For one Susan isn't a time lord shes gallifreyan, she can't regenerate. Secondly, the name a timelord adopts is not just a name. It's a promise, it defines who they are and want to be. The doctor chose the doctor necause he aspired to be a healer and wise man. The masrer wants to dominate, etc... Its against time lord culture to just hand it off to someone else. Romana already has a title. We don't know what it means but thats the title she chose.
