The Tressa's team recently placed in Top 8 at the Ontario Trios Springfest! Randall took a Chainsaw Man deck that was fairly straightforward, but featured a couple cards that we did not include in our deck profile that was previously uploaded on the channel. Congrats on top 8! I'm the player who played your list in London that came in second place. The night before the BSF I was putting together the final list with my team after looking at different lists, and the truth is that I really liked your idea with the Power 3/2. It worked pretty well for me.

Nice top 8! THAT 3/2 POWER HAS BEEN AMAZING AND I'VE BEEN WONDERING WHY PEOPLE DONT ADD IT!! I originally played it in 6 choice 2 door and was like... wtf why isn't this in every deck that runs red. Based Randall!! Awesome overview!!!

I recently changed my list while testing to cut the Makima brainstorm so I appreciate seeing another list also cut it (makes me feel like I'm not insane lol...) I recently tried putting the Power 3/2 in the list so I'm looking forward to seeing how it works in testing! Congrats on top 8!

I was surprised how many decks ran the freefresh backup (15/18 of the topping lists in BSF so far). It seems to me like it's pretty rare that you want to use it at lv3 (as you mentioned, you tend to have a notably more compressed deck than wr, and I think that's generally true to some extent even without the red Power), and before lv3 it's not all that likely that you both have it in hand (in particular, can't grab it off cx triggers) and can play it (meaning no Kishibe on board, didn't crash too many lanes), but perhaps it's better than I think?

Congrats on Top 8! Really appreciate the deck list and thought process to the build. Will definitely be adjusting my deck to slot in the Power now. If we ever get the Aki restriction here in ENG, would you do a quick post ban list? I guess I can look up what they did over in JP, but always would love your thoughts on which cards to slot in after taking out the banned/choice restricted ones.

Congrats on Top 8 and this was a great breakdown of the thought process behind your deck choices. I wonder if the 1/0 Kishibe is a trap. You can waste a lot of resources trying to actually get it onto the field and achieve the 10k wall, but even if you do, it doesn't really do much other than provide a wall against lv1s. Standby decks can generally beat over it, and many 2/1 early plays can kill them as well. Similarly, you HAVE to use a bunch of stock to get use all your events immediately. I think the fact that you *could* be running it is scarier for opponents than actually running it. It's likely because I'm a worse player and have less experience with the deck, but I find the 8-bar list with 2/1 Samurai slash and the ability run more 0/0 Himeno salvage and 0/0 Makima brainstormers to be more flexible and less punishing than the 0/0 Himeno stock/soul CXC and 1/0 Kishibe version, especially pre-level 2. In particular, clocking the 3/2 Himeno to to dismantle boards like Slime while still retaining the 2/1 Samurai Slash power (since it checks your opponent's board for its on-attack buff) has served me very well. Regardless, I always enjoy these types of thought-process videos. Really helps me with my own deck building. I particularly like the idea of the 0/0 Power in place of the 0/0 Clean Cut in my list, since I rely a lot more on the 0/0 Himeno salvage brainstormer for card advantage, and will be testing it thoroughly before my local shop tournament this weekend.

In my mind the Kishibe is basically there to kill opp's cards (ideally on both your turn and opp's turn), which you often only need 2 for, and isn't the highest priority anyway. You probably shouldn't be putting a lot of effort into getting that 10k wall unless you know it'll ruin your opp's day. You also don't need to get all your events immediately; you can always wait until the kishibes are dead (or play over them at lv3 if the opp just never answers them). I suppose you do want 2 of them for the EP condition, though.

@@alexandermccabe4461 This is exactly my point. It just feels really awkward without providing value that the 2/1 Samurai Sword CXC doesn't already. It sits at 8k with encore when you use the CXC and goes +1 or +2. In my playing, it's just been smoother all around.

Samurai Sword isn't on a stocksoul though (and costs a stock up front), plus it can't be played at lv0 and requires a reverse target, and needs full field to be EP'd. There are a lot of benefits to playing the Himeno combo (though that's not to say that Samurai Sword is bad), and at that point I think Kishibe makes a lot of sense.

@@alexandermccabe4461 But you're not factoring in the cost to find the kishibes, since you need at least two copies of him to be useful, three copies to properly contest a bigger board. Additionally, 8-bar works considerably better with the 2/1 Aki backrow for the trigger heal. I usually am not a fan of on-reverse effects either, but it's unlikely to be attacking for less than 11k at any given time, usually 12 or 13k. And since it gives itself encore, it's easy to use multiple turns in a row. Like I said in my original comment and you've said in this comment chain, the 0/0 Himeno stock/soul is probably better, but I still the 1/0 Kishibe is a trap. It's not good at one copy, it's okay at two, and it's too inconsistent to full board without actually devoting resources to it. There are definitely trade-offs to either version, but I genuinely think the Samurai list is smoother option. A samurai/aki list placed 7th in London two weeks ago; i think it'd get even more placements if more people played it.

Samurai Sword also only contests one lane, and isn't accessible off makima riki / less accessible off riko & cigarettes, so idk that selecting into a single copy of that + some other reasonably big attacker is much easier than the lv0 Himeno + double Kishibe.
