I remember some other kids on our street growing up, used to attach a wooden ice lolly stick to the forks of their bikes so it hit against the wheel spokes⚠️😲😳 Kinda reminded me of the same noise!😂

I thought the exact same thing. Although we would use trading cards or similar instead. 😁

I have the same problem with mine the spur is really poor quality I'm glad it's not just me I have filed a bit on mine and cleaned up the flashing a bit quieter but still loud I have torn mine down twice to just put a brushless motor in trying it tomorrow

It seems just about everyone has noticed how loud the gearbox is. Sorting out the spur and pinion helps a little. At this point I have added a couple of shims to the diff, packed it with grease, added internal spacers to the rear shocks to limit droop and stop the driveshafts from binding. And also swapped out the motor. It's quieter. But the noise is still there. At this point I think it is just the nature of the gearbox. 😁

Thanks for the update. I really like the look of this one. If I order one I'll order an extra spur at the same time.

It does look great! I don't think photos and video do it justice. Comparisons are already being made between this and the BBX that it resembles. The BBX is by far the better buggy, but as a budget alternative, the Sand Master certainly is worth considering if you want a retro dune buggy/cage design RC.

I kinda like the gritty noise. The play in the spur gear is the same issue I have with the TT02. Makes the car sound like an angry hornet 😁

🤔 looking at the flashing on the spur gear and considering your location you’ll need to visit a Gundam store for some files and gently get rid of it 😂 Have a great weekend man 👊

They need to make hop ups for it. They shouldn't have made the pinion spur different.

Would be nice so be able to buy it as a kit Nice buggy
@KaiCityRC

Yes, in kit form with a selection of upgrades and option parts would be nice. First on the list, a slipper clutch and/or better spur gear arrangement. And something to replace the terrible battery door design! Every time I run it in the sand/dirt the mechanism gets clogged up and it takes forever to get the battery out! 😣

The truth is that that gearbox is very noisy (but for the price I can't complain, and compared to the Tamiya grasshoppers it can be seen that it can withstand more top speed)

Once upon a time, Kyosho were the best Japanese RC companies going around...alas, I don't think I'd purchase another Kyosho RC... since the brand has changed owners several times in the last couple of decades.

I personally feel Kyosho continue to make some fantastic products. I've got nothing but praise for the Legendary Series. 👍 😎🤩 And the Dirt Master and Fazer FZ02-R I recently purchased has been great too. But they've clearly dropped the ball with some aspects of this one!

Very interesting video David. I think it is strange that Kyosho puts out a buggy like this,considering they are known for their top end rc like the Legendaryseries🤔i guess its a good entry in to the rc hobby although one could probably pick up another entry rc for the same price but with better quality...just my personal opinion and no critique towards you in any way🙂have a great weekend!

Thanks for commenting! 😊 For a similar price you could pick up one of Tamiya's XB Series buggies, such as the DT-03 and a bearing kit to replace the plastic bushings. Comparing the two, I'd say overall the quality of the plastics used on the Kyosho are slightly better. The Kyosho comes with the bearings installed, metal diff gears, metal driveshafts, metal diff output shafts and axles, oil filled dampers with thick shock pistons and adjustable pre load. It also uses hex screws. Additionally, it has a faster motor, waterproof ESC & Servo and (IMHO) a better transmitter. The DT-03 has the better gearbox. The plastic used for the gears is of a higher quality. Though the DT-03 also has a fair bit of play in it too. The DT-03 has less slop in the rear suspension arms (lower mounting pin). Also is Tamiya's favor is the huge amount of optional parts available, both from Tamiya and third party manufacturers. There are also plenty of other makers offering RTR's at an affordable price to consider. It's such a shame that the Sand Master is let down by the gearbox, because for the money it is really well spec'd. 😥

Poor job from Kyosho as I love there re releases of the classics.
@KaiCityRC
@KaiCityRC 7 ай бұрын
I don't think it's off centre. But there is some play in the shaft the spur mounts to, resulting in a very subtle cyclical movement as it rotates. When I have more time I plan to tackle the gearbox and see if I can improve things. 👍

It’s put me off buying one of these now everyone is having problems,think they should be returned or otherwise companies will keep putting out poor quality, and from Kyosho I love the legendary series and got most of them it’s disappointing
@KaiCityRC
@KaiCityRC 7 ай бұрын
I wouldn't let this potential for some minor issues put you off buying one! Aside from the gearbox noise/mesh, the buggy is pretty good for the price. 👍 And a few mods will sort out most of the problems. To be honest, having something to "fix" was a god excuse to pull it apart and tinker. Made up for it being an RTR and not a kit. 😁

I ran today with a different spur and pinion, but the noise remains. At this point I think it is just the nature of this gearbox.
