I dont think US is really unsafe.I am from Czech rep and I lived in the USA for 9 years. And if I wasn't in a Latino or black neighborhood, it was always very safe.In my experience southside Chicago,Cicero etc. A had small painting company bussiness i never had any problem with costumer paying me on time People in the US are usually in a good mood and even if they are not, they try to be pleasant in Czech NO. Also, the police in the USA, if they see that you are normal, they try to help you rather than bothering you unnecessarily. Both countries, the USA and the Czech Republic, are very safe if you don't look for places full of dubious people

He looks pretty young, I lived in South FL for 20 years and Frankly none of my friends ever thought Prague was in the " Eastern " whatever bs. I'm talking people in their 20s to their 40s. They have no clue about who was whose ally 50 years ago. Can they finally leave this alone and stop obsessing about this completely irrelevant topic ? If you want to discuss geography or economy stick to GDP per Capita. Yes Miami is south of Orlando, San Francisco is north of LA, Ámsterdam is north of Brussels, but no one makes a big deal out of it. Jesus what a stupid nonsense.

Hi, iam from Czech republic. Its good to hear it, becouse, and its unfortunately true , here are still some racist. And 90´was escalating for society and rise of skinheads. Also true is that we have still problem with gypsies minority and many of peoples dont like them. If it is rightly or wrongly, I will not discuss. But it is fact. Now its much better, but then.... I mean, you was lucky and iam glad for it. On every place on the world are nice people and idiots, the difference is only in their ratio. And i also traveling, but still love Czech nature. And as i think it pay everywhere, cities and rich peoples are worst then villages and poor peoples. He who has everything gives nothing. He who has nothing would give everything. That is the reason, why i like poor countries much more then rich countries. Have a nice day.

Thank u so much, I really appreciate it as Czech. U don’t need to be ashamed, it’s common, we’re used to it. It’s same w us when we think about some even more Eastern countries like Ukraine, Armenia… The people there are so poor from an economic point of view, but so rich in the terms of humanity. They had basically nothing to offer, but they invited us to their house and gave us homemade meal they probably needed hours to work for. It’s really important to not judge countries or people by things u hear in media neither by some commonly known rumours. World needs now more such positive stories like that, in my opinion.

I heard stories about visiting Russia and it seems like they invite you for meal and vodka at evening and they want to kill you at morning next day, I hope those people are just exagerating it. On other hand, I heard from family friend that he visited Dagestan, which is considered very unsafe, and he felt much better and more safe there than in "normal" Russia far from these problematical regions, people there were kind, especially when he said that he is Czech, because they hate Russians there even when they are part of Russia too. 😀

My first trip to what was then Czechoslovakia was right after the fall of the iron curtain, in late 1989 or early 1990. I drove to Pilsen/Plzeň, on a whim, just because I could (big deal then!). And since I've always been a beer nerd, I went to see the Plzeň brewery museum. There I was, the only visitor far and wide, and that guy at the entrance, nobody else around. I went up to him and told him I had no Czechoslovakian currency on me and could I please pay in Deutschmark. I didn't care about the entry fee, which was ridiculously low (one crown?), and I didn't care about the exchange rate (like one to ten then?). I would just give him one Deutschmark or two or three, okay? I didn't need a receipt, either. He turned visibly pale and told me that was absolutely illegal and he couldn't possibly do that. So what could we do then? I asked. And after some agonizing, he said, "Well, I'll just let you in for free." Just an anecdote, but it has informed my opinion of the Czechs as a very, very nice people ever since. :)

Prague (Praha) is one of my favorite places on Earth. Period! End of story. I lived in Prague for 2 years, and my *worst* days there were as good as (or better than) my decent days in Chicago, the city I was born in. Other cities in the Czech Republic are nice as well. Prague, is amazing in ways that can't be described, and it's mostly because of the people. If you ever go back, I'd also suggest visiting places like Olomuc, České Budějovice, Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary or just pick a place at random. I hope to move back to Prague next year. I've been away too long and I'm actually homesick. It's good that you went to Prague and stepped outside of the bubble that a lot of US-Americans refuse to leave. It's also great that you had such a good experience there. The next time you're in Prague, visiting the areas of the city that are off the beaten path might be a lot of fun as well. The Žižkov neighborhood (where I used to live) is great. It's full of bars and pubs, but has some amazing places tucked away on quiet streets, and there's an amazing park there, where people go to hang out and watch the sunset. It's a great place for summer evenings.

I guess that like 1000 people already said it in comments, but we as Czechs don't think about ourselves as eastern europeans, when you say eastern europe, I imagine places like Russia, Ukraine, Moldova which is 1000+ km away from Czechia, so the fact that people from west put us into this group is just bizare for us, we have been part of western civilisation since like 10th century with only one exception - 40 years of communism and 20 years of Soviet occupation and that's what moved us to that so-called "eastern europe" thing. To be honest, I visited some countries considered to be "western europe" and I would say that many of them look worse than Czechia. Not everything is good here, but generally, life is pretty good here, not great, not terrible, people tend to complain about salaries, but we are still very cheap country even with today inflation and energy crisis. You can see massive change since 90s when everything was destroyed after 40 years of communism, but in last few years, things started moving faster, streets have new cobble stones instead of patched asphalt like in the past, parks are getting renovated, buildings important for our history are restored, like national museum, it's white again after decades, people didn't even remember it was white when it was new. I could continue but this comment is already long. I can tell you that Prague and Czech cities generally now look better than like Vienna and such cities and I mean it completely seriously, people don't judge things objectively, they go here with that "eastern europe" mindset so everything is ugly for them and then they visit Vienna and it's "amazing" becuase it is "the west" even when you step on dog shits and everything is covered by graffiti. BTW, we tend to have bad meaning about countries like Poland, many Czechs would never visit it because they remember some vacation 40 years ago and they say there is nothing, but you should really give a chance to Poland, it looks great there, in some places it looks better than here in Czechia, especially their new highways and rails....it's amazing what they built in only 15 years.

I would say it is typical in Czech Republic. When we go to kid's playground, there are ALWAYS some toys there, because people just leave them there for other kids to play.

Hey! I come from Czechia and want to tell you a few words... Don't feel so awful about the situation and about your way of thinking of this country. The media is making you think specific things and you don't get to know the real stuff about the countries or cultures and people until you get to know them and visit the country. Thank You so much for sharing this story, it's really nice to hear a person from different country and culture to say these warm things about us, I'm sure many of us Czechs really appreciate it! Have amazing days🎉

Ja mam takovy pocit, ze je to jen alibisticky termin, protoze si nekteri lide nejsou schopni pripustit, ze byli pod sferou vlivu SSSR. I appreciate your openness about this experience. It makes me sad to see that people would dread exploring places in eastern Europe based on its history and such, but at the same time, it is awesome to see that you own up to it and let everyone know what a great time you had. To me, it shows you are openminded, ready to grow and learn from life. I wish everyone was.

I know Prag from former CSSR - it was a great country. First visit in CSSR with my parents was in 1978, my mother did learn Czech language for this. Next years we made some holidays there. Some years ago I was in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) - great again. Czech Republic seems to be a Geheimtip.

The message "go and see for yourself" is great now as much as it was when I travelled. Some 20+ years ago I went for 13 months as an au-pair to Mississippi knowing NOTHING about it. Of course I thought I know everything and nothing could surprise me. And believe me it was a cultural shock. For me it was a crazy world. I learned to live there (and be safe) and to like it. It wasn't always easy but I never regret that experience. To this day I remember that every member of the family and their friends left a X'mass present for me under the tree because I started the job mid December and they expected me to be lonely and wanted to make me feel welcome. It still makes me all mushy to think about it. There are nice people and bad people everywhere it the world. I'm convinced that there are mostly the nice ones. But unfortunately we hear more about the others. So enjoy your time wherever you are and if you come again to Prague, we can go for a cup of tea/coffee and I can tell you maybe about the preschool in the Czech Republic

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people are in dire need of it for these reasons. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in a small corner of the earth all one's life."- Mark Twain I have been to Prague twice. I just found this video, so I am sorry that I am writing after 2 years. Greetings from the Czech Republic, Thank you for visiting Prague (my city). I am actually quite surprised that Americans might think we are not safe. Last year, we were the 8th safest country in the world, even before Germany and France (and of course, before the USA - it was ranked around 120th). Nevertheless, I am very happy that you visited my country, especially my city, and that you enjoyed it. Feel free to visit us again, and I would be happy to give you a tour around Prague or Czechia.

I was a great trip. Some people asked if I was not afraid - especially with this car in Albania - but I must say that I never was worried that anything bad could happen.

Hi, I'm from the Czech Republic and I'd like to thank you for being here and for liking it. Despite the fact that I'm not from Prague, I can say that I like Prague a lot. However, there are a few downsides that I don't know if you want to know or see. Some cities here are not dangerous but sometimes you just don't feel like it. But other than that, the people in our state are mostly nice, peaceful and respectful. You wanted to suggest some cities that would be worth visiting. I can recommend Liberec and their transmitter and the Hotel Jested. I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but Brno. Brno is a smaller version of Prague. Spilberg Castle, Petrov Church, nice Freedom Square, etc. There is a lot to see and it takes time to travel around the Czech Republic. My best recommendation is to spend maybe a week here and get to know what kind of people and places there are. It's definitely worth it. If you meet people here who are not going to be nice, the surroundings will make up for it and vice versa. But the Czech Republic is still a beautiful place despite what's going on now and I'd definitely like to come back.
