Explaining our Easter tradition in English is really difficult. XD She was right about the "stay young and beautiful" thing, but the whip is made of young willow branshes. It is supposed to symbolize giving young life from branches to women, allowing them to stay healthy and beautiful. And we don't whip them hard. We actually have our own separate word, but english doesn't have that.
@js666132 жыл бұрын
It's still a terrible tradition, giving men gifts and women hits. Even if they are gentle hits. And this comes from a person from Czech Republic. My parents don't care for it either so we quickly adopted the "culture" of hiding sweets all over the garden and having children hunt for them on Easter instead. Splitting up genders like that and hiding sexism behind a veil of "good health and beauty" is ridiculously old-fashioned and needs to be phased out. It leaves far too much room for abuse there too, having traditions that can essentially be used as excuses for such things. Just like Christianity creates far too much room for exclusion, abuse and fascism.

Unvisited girls may even feel offended. A "whipped" woman gives a man a colored egg as a symbol of her thanks and forgiveness. Legend has it that the girls are to be whipped at Easter to stay healthy all year round and maintain their fertility. In some areas, women can retaliate in the afternoon when they pour buckets of cold water on men and boys."*

I am czech. And when I was a child and I knew just a little about our history with Slovakia and I truly thought that the "Conec and Ticut" way of separating countries was a norm and I though that countries just normally separate along with their names. Like Can,Ada, Aust,Ralia, and I knew that Jugoslavia was separated years ago so I was hopelessly trying to find my parent's old holiday destination of Jugo and Slavia on the map. But of course I was also open to the possibility of finding few countries with short names Go, Via,Sla and Ju. Becose that's how it works.

Ovšem hlavně bývá zmiňována Praha a ne celé Česko. A to je celkem škoda.

Poland is mentioned more often in movies/tv shows than Czech Republic for some reason. But unlike Czech Republic, most of its mentions are mostly related to WW2 and vodka/kiełbasa rather than its capital city.

@dragonfly52ful3 жыл бұрын
@@veronikaczr1105 I didn't say we are forced, but it is a tradition. I meant it in a way that we just got used to it, that we let guys do it simply because it is a tradition. 6:59 Nakládání :D It does mean loading, yeah. But not in the same way, it is "loading cargo" not "loading software" :D Reminds me of the translations in Deus Ex Mankind Divided ("sídlo" written on benches, it does mean seat yeah, but as in "seat of the government" not a place where you can sit) 7:04 also :D "mytí obrazovka"? You mean Ostřikovače? And fotoapárát is only for taking pictures, kamera is what gives you video/live view. But other than that, it is an accurate depiction of using Skoda
