thank you for sharing this! it's actually quite a big difference, 16-18% faster.

Adobe was deceptive in their marketing release of this update today, which compared the Apple Silicon build to the old Intel Macbook Pro running the x86 build. There was no comparison of Rosetta/x86 vs Apple Silicon/ARM on the same machine…until now! Thanks for taking the time to do this, liked and subscribed!

Thank you for posting this. I was considering switching from PC to Mac on my desktop. The PC imports images into Lightroom Classic much, much quicker than both Macs. In one minute, I'm accustomed to importing hundreds of 45megapixel images. I'm disappointed this isn't better.
@southpaww3 жыл бұрын
May i ask the specs of your PC? My camera is 61MP, so I’m considering these too. The import speeds will be hampered too by the card speed, and it could still be a code issue with adobe.

With Version 10.3, I think more importantly you'll notice a difference in the "Swap Used" feature under the Memory tab in Activity Monitor
@insomnia093 жыл бұрын
more or less with 10.3? I'm seeing values up to 6-7 GB with Lightroom having around 9-10 GB usage.

I think the biggest improvement is the reduced use of RAM without Rosetta in between. I love my M1 Mac. It performs without spinning up the fan every ten seconds and the battery lasts forever!

Thanks for the test. I think import/export is not the big deal for the chips, it's more about the apps code.

Hi there, Do you need to download the M1 version of Lightroom, or is it just the standard download within abobe CC? Thanks
@thomasfitzgerald2 жыл бұрын
It's not a separate version. Just the latest version from the Adobe app will work

I have many problems with my MacBook Air m1 8gb ram.. Lightroom Classic is using too much ram and than my Mac starts to right a lots of data to my SSD. I think this will only last 1 year... 6 TB in just one week, this insane in that short amount of time and too much in my opinion.

Hi, great test. Cann you look at swap usage for Lightroom under rosseta and on native version? On rosseta it uses a lot of swap memory. I just whant to know is it the case on native version also. Thank you.
@thomasfitzgerald3 жыл бұрын
I just had a quick look - Not 100% sure as there seems to be a bug in Activity monitor that mis-reports native apps. It's telling me Lightroom is using 390gb - but there's no way thats correct as it would be eating half my remaining drive space. Other apps reporting similar numbers. overall system swap is running at about 2.9gb - but I ave been running quite a bit of software and haven't rebooted.

I haven’t upgraded yet, but I believe it does without any issues. I haven’t seen any reported and I’m nearly sure it’s officially compatible.

thank you for the video it was great but I have a question what about actual using Lightroom is it very responsive? I mean when you have a bunch of presets and you hover on them are the machine showing preview very fast you know what I'm talking about when you hover your mouse on a preset on the left side and the preview of the preset shows instantly on a photo that you are going to apply and when you hover another preset and another and another is this processes doing very fast?

most important did they fix the memory leak on M1??
@thomasfitzgerald3 жыл бұрын
I left it running for 24 hours and it didn't happen. I used to get this all the time on my old computer with the old one. I don't know if its still happening on intel on not - but in my testing it never occurred. So, fingers crossed. It does still use a lot of memory though - but it doesn't seem to keep rising till it kills the machine.

@@thomasfitzgerald I meant the extreme SSD-Swap problem caused by the memory leak on M1 machines. Until now only disabling the GPU acceleration helped

@UCVAnVm54isB_qBwCu-aoEmw The M1 machines have with some software a SSD-Swap problem. LR is a very extreme example for this. Only help until now was disabling the GPU acceleration. My hope is Adobe fixed this with the native version now

Ok, I read the various threads discussing this, and I haven't come across this problem. Perhaps it's because I have the 16gb version of the MacBook Pro, but I'm not seeing anything like the kinds of swap usage some people are reporting. The most it goes up to after about an hour of use is around 5gb. In fact it went back down after the first 10 mins of using the develop module on loads of photos. So - not sure if they've sorted it or I just haven't been affected. There are many variables it could be - amount of presets installed, size of library, size of images used and so on - but I'm not experiencing this issue, and I can't replicate it.

This new version is nice, a little faster, however the tethered shooting is not compatible with M1 chips just now, so the program, tells you to restart in Rosetta compatibility mode in order to shoot tethered! BAAAAD!
