Here is an option to look at with keeping the deposit anyway. In business we call it a "Bye out (take these mon-tees, goodbye and get out) ". In essence it looking at a situation and seeing if it is most cost effective to ask for the deposit back or cheaper to allow them to keep it knowing that they will never get another dime from you ever again in life. In certain cases that means no money towards bail, a lawyer, speaking on your behalf to your p.o., assistance in keeping the lights on or from getting evicted. Sometimes playing checkers is more effective than playing chess.
