A Rare Aggressive Hindenburg Game

These don't happen very often since most battleships at tier 10 have 30mm overmatch. This match reminded me how similar to a battleship Hindenburg is when it can make use of the 30mm armor it has.

Hindy was my first T10. 5 years later, she's still my favourite. Even when factoring in ships like the Smolensk, Petro, Yamato, Thunderer...etc. Nothing really scratches that itch like Hindy does. Next target is Goliath, but I already know she won't do it for me either, because she lacks Hindy's range.

I am really looking forward to Hindenburg since playing her on PTS. I am now in Hipper which I really like, and I do well. I also don't think I'll dislike Roon as much as I disliked Seattle or Ibuki, but we'll see.

Hipper is honestly my favorite ship in the game, and so many other players seem to underestimate her or ignore her in games. Very jack of all trades and can troll with the armor. Also played the Hindenburg on the recent PTS, was good fun for what we could do.

@@dany1441 you're absolutely right. I had a monster tX game recently and I felt like everyone just ignored me. I citadeled a Petro to death who just parked his broadside against me. Maybe I'll finally complete the grind

Roon plays very much like an armoured Nurnberg without 360 rear turrets. Ideally you position yourself somewhere the enemy has to push into you to take the objective, and then just kite away while lobbing shells at them. Then if they disengage, go dark, turn around and chase them. Hindenburg is, at the end of the day, a Roon with 2 extra torp launchers and an extra turret. So if you master Roon, you will master Hindy. A lot of people might say they're unalike because Hindy's firepower is split 50:50 bow and stern, but effectively, you don't want to be nose in to enemy ships in Hindy unless you're positive you won't have to turn around, or have some cover to duck into if you're forced into that situation. In all other respects, they're the same. Hindy is slightly better armoured though, I think.

I have mine set up for range with coal mods for spotter and aa. The t2 capt skill for the spotter plane is a game changer. I will get focused quickly if I try to even push within 10km of a cap. I use radio location to try and keep some distance from the dds as they are usually the closest ship. I blind fire torps around the radio marker in case a dd ties a torp run. The AP is monstrous when I do get to use it towards the end of the game if I survive.

Haven't even started watching this and guessing no 18" bbs... ah yes you mentioned it... Actually I think this reveals an major underlying problem with the game now - there are so many classes which have problems with pushing in due to poor balance in some circumstances (bbs, cruisers v 18", dds v cv spotting (to a lesser extent radar), that many players who have grown up in those environments and so avoid pushing don't realise what to do when those threats aren't around. So even if you are up for pushing it's really easy to find yourself unsupported and on your own... Have Lutjens on my Hindi too.

The entire game needs a hard balance pass for ships, weapons, gimmicks, and game mechanics..... and Wargaming has zero stomach or interest in this. The game has bloated to a crazy amount and keeps getting piled onto. Recently I've been having more fun at low tiers since there seems to be less of this bloat and gimmicks that tier 9/10 has which makes the game feel better, although it still has a number of overpowered ships in it. People are far more willing to brawl as well.

@@Swarm509 Legends is kinda the same way. You have tier 7 ships going up against "Legendary" ships where are basically tier 8 or 9 ships. So, in Legends, Iowa is tier 7, for example, and is totally outmatched by Yamato yet both ships are considered the same tier so everyone and their dog plays Yamato to bully the other "normal" tier 7 BB's. We had a match yesterday with 3 Yamatos on their team vs one Iowa and a couple Bismarcks and the Yamato's just sailed straight in and steamrolled our center cap cutting us in half with impunity. And don't even get me started on destroyers in Legends. They are basically our version of CV's and subs so even lower tiers aren't an escape although they're a little better that tier 7 which is pretty much a waste of time unless you're incredibly good at the game or bought or paid your way through to unlock legendaries. Seems like both versions of the game are nuts right now with wildy unbalanced ships classes and types.

I got to the Hipper some time ago and stopped as I just loved just running that ship and no interest in the Roon due to the gun layout, and the Hindenburg didn't seem that good with my limited tier 10 experience. Been playing more tier 10 with other ships so decided to start pushing through the Roon grind. Actually don't mind the ship and I am looking forward to the Hindenburg.

Hindy is honestly a great all-around cruiser. Got to play her for a cb season as a rental, and she felt great to use - tanky, great AP, decent HE, hydro is amazing, etc. She’s like the Montana of cruisers - an old ship with nothing all that special, but a good ship nonetheless.

Tbh Hinden is still a good viable ship because of that good HE pen and damage as well as the punchy AP The funniest part of Hinden is that...the AA actually is better than Kurfurst by quite a margin.The range of 5.2 is kinda lacking where the norm of T10 is 6

I like Hindi. I started with the German line and have a dozen or so premiums in the German line. So I Got Gunther Lutjens and just got him to 21 point commander the other day. I have not tried him on Hindi yet because my Hindi has a 19 point commander. Gunther works good on Kurnfurst. Now I thought they were suppose to change Kurnfurst to a premium and give us something else at the end of the German BB line??? If True that would make Kurnfurst a free ship for Gunther to jump to and I could put him on Hindi. Hindi is one of my favorite cruisers to play Randoms on. My problem is I move in to quick and get myself into a bad situation. Being patient was never my strong point. lol

You're absolutely correct about the GK, so yes, assigning 'ol Gunther to another ship will be possible! Keep in mind mind though that the replacement BB, which obviously won't be a premium, might be a good choice for Lutjens as well, so you might have the same conundrum. Boy I really dislike the captain mechanics

It sounds crazy but indeed i have the same feeling / question. I play for 5 years now and became better and better (according to stats, watching a lot of vids). But since about one year it changes. 200k+ matches are now nearly impossible for me (tier 8-10). And it dont matters how well i play, its seldom that i get more than 50% win rate for a day and instead of being in the top 3 of my team its now more common to be in the middle or bottom. Maybe the game or the calculation of base xp changed and i didnt get it. But what really hurts is the constantly falling win rate.

Yes it’s astonishing when your team does exactly the right things yet somehow the red team without fail has DDs on every cap and have zero issues pushing onto said caps, my team always hangs back and runs with one or no caps and everyone gets picked off. I have seen on multiple occasions the red team having 4-6 ranked players in the roster while my team has 1-2. Can’t forget the BB’s that hide for the entire game afk just to be focused by the entire team late in the game.

I would of assumed a lot of kiting, how do you find the brawling? Is it a lot of hiding till things get pushed around or are you moving in early?

@@Swarm509 It always depends on the circumstances. Mid-game and end-game i'm usually brawling if the enemy BBs are few or have bad aiming or don't focus me. Island cover is the best way to get close and with the 6 km hydro it's hard to get torped or ambushed. ( i use legendary module and fire reducing talents + modules so it's hard for cruisers to burn me) Generally with the torps, the hydro and the armor that hindenburg has it's a waste to keep at max distance all game. (most boring too..)

I almost gave up on getting Hindy because Roon was soooo awful. Hipper, and Nurnburg aren't bad, while Yorck and Konigsburg are not great, but thankfully short grinds.

I took heavy HE capt. skill on my Yorck and it ruined my concealment play worse than I anticipated. I figured I was spotted quite a bit before the skill but after I got it it seemed like 3-4 people were targeting me as soon as I got in range without fail across several games. The extra damage it gives couldn’t even be applied because I was such a juicy target. Maybe I was playing wrong somehow but I felt useless for my team, I reskilled to adrenaline rush because it was so bad, I was a big flashing target rather than stealth. Don’t pick that skill for the Yorck

You should try a full reload Hindy in arms race. The lowest I've seen it go to was a 4.7 sec reload and it is monstrous, especially when you add that with the damage boosts arms race offers. Hindy is also the best counter to Petro in the game. It has the ability to pen Petros 50mm plating, causing it to absolutely fall apart when attempting to to bow tank. That goes the other way too, if you are playing Petro, avoid hindy at all costs!

Roon is not a bad ship at tier 9. It teaches you what not to do before you get Hindi. lol I myself make the same mistakes I see many others make. Move in to quickly not knowing what else might be there with good concealment.

Do WG nerf players who speak out about them? I only ask, because this is the third Hindi video I've seen over the last few weeks, with numbers WAY higher than I ever got in mine. Although, I unlocked mine during "Mouse-gate", which I was very vocal about on the forums. After which, my win rate and damage (in all ships) just fell through the floor. I haven't played a game since the mass exodus, but just to give you an idea, doing 70 main battery hits in my IFHE Cleveland got me 3,800 Dmg and no fires. Pretty much every game I played was costing me creds and I stopped counting at 42 losses in a row. The very last game I played was in my Hindi. 147 main battery hits for 1 fire and 26k damage. My best ever Randoms game in Hindi saw me with 220 - ish main battery hits for 3 fires and Just short of 50k damage. I'm genuinely curios about it though. I still love the game, I love watching Vids of the game etc. I'm giving serious thought to uninstalling it and never playing again. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is what I experienced a corrupted update download or bugs or something more nefarious?? I look forward to hearing from you awesome community members

All videos that get uploaded are "perfect scenario" games. (from all streamers, not just this one) Don't pay too much attention to them. However, the numbers you're describing are bad. You're probably doing something wrong. There's no way 220 hits in a hindenburg to result in 50k damage.

I don't expect those numbers, I just expect my ship to follow the rules of the game. Sadly, it didn't, and that's my problem and why I don't play anymore. Whenever I took My beloved Hindi into co-op, I was getting 150-190k damage. For some reason, Randoms just said No. I kinda realised something was wrong when I snuck up on a Balti and was pumping AP into the broadside from 4KM and getting 170-250 dmg per salvo before he turned his guns and blapped me. The bonus HE pen of the German line?... For me, it didn't exist. I got countless shatters on the superstructure of BB's. I'm glad that you see that 220 main battery hits and 50k damage is wrong. That's exactly how I saw it.

@@craigdavid4718 hm. he shells will never shatter on superstructure, but some bb decks can even shatter hindenburg he, keep that in mind. and as rough as it sounds i think you just got very unlucky with fires. bots usually instant dmgcon fires so its much easier to burn them down than players. don't compare those. also, i think the balti had just enough angle to bounce you. at a 40° angle ships can look quite broadside but they can bounce you if you don't aim right. I don't believe there is sth wrong with the game this way, but if there actually turns out be a bug or sth, please accept my apology for thinking you're a bit undereducated about the game. edit: uninstalling the game would probably be quite healthy, but if you're interested in playing a game, write me back.

@@cemborembo That's why I ask about if WG nerf players... That's how it felt. I was sitting at a 58% win rate with respectable average damage. I started speaking out about what happened with little white mouse and my numbers suddenly dropped. I was constantly bottom tier, even to the extent that I played a co-op in my Hipper at 3 in the morning, I was the only Human player, but I was faced up against a full line up of T10 bots. I guess for me, something went wrong... 150 main battery hits for 30k damage in a Hindi... Something definitely went wrong :)

I have no way of knowing, but it does seem to me that there's more involved in hit calculations than simple ballistics plus rng. Like, in some circumstances the game just decides you are or aren't going to get a hit before it does any of the ballistics calculations, and then the ballistics is just to draw nice shell arcs for you. I think this comes into play in the "honeymoon period" where you get much better performance in the first half-dozen matches for a new ship, but I guess it could be invoked according to all sorts of criteria to buff or nerf the "natural" outcome of each salvo.

The biggest issue is how much of a bully they can be with no major down sides. I had two Russian CV's go after me hard in my Des and it was brutal. Couldn't shoot down the planes with the single flight gimmick they have, and between the planes and trying to avoid shots by being spotted it was a horrible time. Same goes if a match gets down to a few ships, a CV can just wreck a single ship that is already low on health with no downsides.

@@padanfain7466 you can have multiple CV per side in a game, though on EU it is not common on high tiers, I have had games with more - and not only on tier 4. The worst game was T10+T8 cv per side with me in T8 DD (lightning). GL HF
