Gorgeous ! The French-made Mosins are now very rare. The last time I saw one, it was nearly 25 years ago in Paris, and guess what ? There was only the barrel left, used to rebarrel a Berdan 2 old rifle. A strange modification, probably authentic, but I didn't buy it. A pity though this one has been heavily altered... if you can buy the splendid book made about the Manufacture of Châtellerault (few were printed, only in French, I keep mine as a treasure), you would know everything about this version as it includes the reproduction of the contract, construction tables and use reports. And an original picture of the rifle as it was made. No sling slots, no reinforcement bolt, no handguard (only adopted later and added in campaign) and a flat rear sight, as the cartridge used then wasn't a pointed bullet one. But your rifle is a precious witness of history... and if you are ever interested in these documents, feel free to ask !

Assuming that they are marking the underside of the barrels the same as French rifles, the 7 would indicate the month the barrel was produced.

I am a proud owner of a 1943 M9130 Izzy. It is in very good condition and there are no gouges in the wood. There are no import stampings on the receiver. I bought the double thumb screw site tool and zeroed it to 200 yards and is dead on at 100 yards. Funny thing is it chokes on steel cased ammo. I can only feed it Sellier and Bellot brass ammo. The steel cased is difficult to extract. It needs the help of a rubber mallet on the bolt handle. My gunsmith has no explanation.

Chuck a 20 gauge bore brush into a drill, pull the bolt, use A LOT of Hoppe's #9, and clean the piss out of the chamber and locking lug area with said drill. This "fix" usually takes care of sticky bolt issue on mosins.

@ I did exactly that and used Hoppes #9. Gunsmith believes the steel case expands when fired and doesn’t shrink back before extraction like brass cases do.

The Russians putting out a foreign contract for Mosin/Nagant's while there was no war going on seems like they didn't have much confidence in their industrial base getting up to speed anytime soon!

Most people have no idea that there are Rare Mosin Rifles. I have a S.I.G. contract M91 of which there seems to be less than 2000 of them. I am not 100% sure though. I also have a Finnish M27 and what I think is a Chinese type 56. I have other plain janes as well. I am getting a bit long in the tooth at 60years old and may be going to put some of my collection on Gun Broker pretty soon but I may contact the Mosin Museum First to give you a shot. I truly want to get them in the hands of someone who knows what they are. These NEVER need to fall into the hands of Mr. Bubba 😳. I have an FFL dealer Right up the street. But does a model 1891 need one ? Although I would not ship it without an assload of insurance 😁. Thanks for showing the French contract rifle.

The barrel index mark on my 1946 Izveck is at the 9 o'clock position and I don't think the tang is marked. And the stock has no but plate since the it was made in the jungle in Vietnam.

Didn't the French M91s all have the finger-rests behind the trigger guards, and if so, shouldn't this stock have insetted wood replacing that now-removed part?

And No offense to Bubba if you build from parts. Hell, I have a Franken- Mosin myself. It is a Chinese-Russian Mongril but damn if it don't shoot. A 91/30 barreled action in a Chinese carbine stock that I think was made from pine bark. Roughest wood I have ever seen ! I completely free floated the barrel (so to speak) So that the barrel itself touches no wood at all. And there is a Lot of barrel protruding from that stock. But this rifle went from 3 to 4 inch groups at 100 yards to ALMOST MOA....almost. just from the open inletted carbine stock. I am going to scope the beast and crown the muzzle just to see how accurate I can get it. It was already drilled for a PPU type mount so I'm going to get my nephew to make me one. Possibly a muzzle break as well. If it is going to be a Franken-Mosin, I might as well go all out. All removable though in case I ever want to put this action into a proper 91/30 stock.

That sight appears to be originally Russian as the ARSHINS (paces) are over struck insinuating meters re-graduation . Please don't do this, but damn that stock grain would be beautiful after several grits of sandpaper and some boiled linseed oil. 😎
