The queasiest that I've felt in an anatomy lab is when seeing fingers of hand and toes of feet, just lying cold and unmoving on the table. It is a very humbling reminder of the fact that the specimen on the table had, not too long ago, lived a life doing things, manipulating objects, walking to places...

@@haralmas I started walking las week for the first time and realized how weak my foot got after surgery. I’ve been watching KZbin vids for self therapy (stretching, squats and riding my bike..) and it helped tremendously! My foot is now 80% recovered. I recommend Eat as healthy as possible, drink a ton of water and keep your mind busy with positive things (I was able to finish my real estate clases online and played a bunch of video games with my daughter lol). (Sorry for my grammar, English not my first language) Well, you can make a good mental idea of how the musculoskeletal system works. The tendons are an extension of the muscle that is inserted on the bone so it helps the muscle contraction, but why? bc for the muscle to make a contraction, it needs where to pull (physics 😢). That tendon is made of conective tissue, but also, that conective tissue (of other kind) is found inside your body to help the stability of your organs 😅

Great video. I ruptured both of my Achilles tendons. Fortunately not at the same time. I ruptured my right one playing soccer. 10 years later I ruptured my left one kicking a ball. This rupture was more complicated since the tendon had shredded. My orthopedic surgeon had to do a FHL transfer. They cut the tendon which allows you to bend your big toe up and down. This does not affect foot function or my ability to walk. My surgeon then used this tendon to reconstruct my Achilles. I was advised I can no longer do any kind of sports that require any type of cutting motions. My surgeon told me to take up golf. Lol I would rather break a bone than rupture an Achilles tendon. My reconstructed Achilles took over 100 sessions of PT and over a year to regain my foot function. I was in my late 50’s at the time when this all happened. I cringe every time I hear of a professional athlete rupturing his Achilles.

Man. Bodies are amazing. Not just humans, but like... all the animals... I'm just in awe of the beautiful biological engineering that makes our bodies do the things they do. These collagenic fibres formed over millions of years of evolution... so things can move their limbs. The limbs made of bone, muscle, and other tissue that also evolved over time... until we got these super awesome biological machines that are our bodies... it's so freakin' cool!

I was limping for a few years and no one took it seriously year 3 I finally got an MRI and they were surprised I wasn't lying at that time however it had sort of fused back together.. I've hurt my Achilles and my ankle today while doing sitting calve raises. The whole 130 kg (286 pounds) dropped from the safety because it wasn't set right. It hurt so much I thought I broke or ruptured something but it stopped hurting so bad after 2 minutes or so, so I'm fine, but I could have ruptured my Achilles if I would been more unlucky, almost 290 pounds, that's a lot of weight on your Achilles when it falls from a height without the calves being ready to contract.

@crazyrobotlady3391
@crazyrobotlady3391 2 жыл бұрын
Just curious. How does this work? I’m a little rusty with leg anatomy. So if a doctor taps this tendon, will your leg or foot jump the same as it would during a normal reflex test?
@chipyface
@chipyface 2 жыл бұрын
@@crazyrobotlady3391 a reflex works by a nerve connecting from your spinal cord to the muscle group it innervates without going through conscious processing of the brain. The calf muscles on the back of your leg connect to your heel through the Achilles' tendon and they function to flex your foot downwards. So when you tap on the Achilles' tendon, the tibial nerve fires reflexively to contract those muscles to flex your foot downwards without you consciously knowing (similiar to when you touch a flame and pull back immediately)

I'm a med student here in the US. And we use cadavers all the time, so I'll try and shed some light for you. One of the most common ways to preserve cadavers is by "embalming" them. Shortly after their death, there blood is drained and replaced with preservative chemicals (most commonly formaldehyde). We also keep the cadavers in a very cold lab inside of tanks. We spray them regularly with water to prevent them from drying out. Hope that helps
