TOP 10 CANADIAN THINGS TO DO IN THE WINTER
Talk about a real winter experience in Manitoba, Canada! Growing up in California, snowy winter has always been a foreign concept to me. For my recent partnership with Travel Manitoba, I was given the opportunity to spend a few days exploring Manitoba, and trying out various winter activities that are fun and unique. Here are my top 10 favourite things to do in the winter:
1. Winter walks in Whiteshell Provincial Park
I got to walk on a frozen lake! The ice is so thick, you can skate, nordic ski, walk, and snowmobile right over it. Though my favourite part was hanging and hot-tubbing in the cabin at Falcon Trails Resort - what a dreamy start to the trip.
2. Turn (boiling) water into ice magic trick!
Okay, so this may sound a little bit silly, but it is one thing you can only do when the temperature is well below freezing! Watch the vlog for a silly tutorial. ;)
3. Festival du Voyageur
A Winnipeg special, Festival du Voyageur is a celebration of history and French, as well as indigenous, culture. You will see ice sculptures, a sugar shack with maple syrup taffy, as well as actors answering your questions in character from the fur trading time of the voyageurs.
4. The Forks lights
The area is illuminated with lights and 150 ice-skating trails in the winter, perfect for skating and hanging out at night!
5. Thermëa Spa
This place is SO GOOD! It is the perfect winter oasis. Surrounded by nature and providing a variety of saunas and pools, this spot requires a proper blog post detailing how to get the most out of your time: www.bemytravelmuse.com/therme...
6. Snow Maze
A Maze in Corn not only has a formidable snow maze to explore, but also beautiful snow carvings inside some of the hidden rooms and an ice bar, too!
7. Hockey game!
For many, Canada is synonymous with hockey, and I for one had to experience the sport in a place with truly passionate fans. What better way than to attend a Jets game?!
8. Assiniboine Park Zoo
The seals and bears at the Assiniboine Park Zoo are rescues who were orphaned at birth and wouldn’t survive in the wild. It’s wonderful to see them swimming around above you!
9. Mercedes AMG track
Get your adrenaline going swerving around on a frozen Lake Winnipeg in a 6-figure car at the AMG Driving Academy. The intention is to spin and swerve, having a blast and learning how to drive in icy conditions in the process.
10. Helicopter over Lake Winnipeg
What a lovely way to get a bird’s-eye view of the frozen lake! A scenic helicopter ride was the perfect ending to my winter adventures in Manitoba.

Great video, glad you liked our province. Glad you made it here before our lockdown or you would be stuck inside watching tv or watching some other KZbinr enjoying a vacation. Come back in the summer and swim at some of our beautiful lakes. If things are SORT of back to normal. 😊

I’m so proud to see a Cali girl come embrace our winters! Next time see the Zoo lights around Xmas. Too bad you didn’t skate on the rivers at The Forks, always next time! Manitoba is truly a hidden gem to the rest of the country. Riding Mtn, Duck Mtn, Spirit Sands, the river valleys, our huge Lakes, Hecla Island just a few thing you need to come see in the summer next time. The endless walking trails in the city too. And glad you came once in the summer, I hope it was humid n hot to show you we aren’t just cold snow n ice. Awesome vid loved it! dont forget to get a Beaver Tail to eat

The saying that the dry cold isn't as bad is true if you are dressed properly. I recommend asking around online for information on what clothes would be best. What is in your malls will not suit

I know this comment is 6 months old but I just want to mention this for the record. Winnipeg is city of delightfully extreme temperatures. Yeah, minus 30 in the winter is not uncommon but usually not for more than a few days at a stretch. What people don't talk about is the PLUS 30 and higher temperatures in the summer. We usually get a few plus 35 days. The serious cold generally runs about 3 months from mid December to mid March. Winnipeg is one of the sunniest cities in Canada and I drive a convertible in the summer. It certainly isn't always minus 30.

Amazing video and very well edited. I love winter and there's no better place to enjoy it than Canada but I have a question. You're American, right? So if you wanted to experience winter time why didn't you go to Alaska? Don't get me wrong, I love Canada and Manitoba especially. I'm just curious.
@Bemytravelmuse
@Bemytravelmuse 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments! So glad you liked it. As much as I love Alaska, it's very different to Manitoba, and I really like Canada, so I want to experience as much of it as I can. I love places like this that aren't as popular and that have that special something people might not have realized it has.
@herxen82
@herxen82 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bemytravelmuse I thought about it and you're right! Alaska is great, but I think it's too obvious choice for spending winter time. It's becoming too popular with too many tourists and so many administrated parks, especially in Anchorage and Denali areas. I got a friend who traveled "in the north" and he told me "Don't go to Alaska, go to the Yukon Territory. Same as Alaska, but less people and more wild nature."

Pretty sure this is the first time I've ever heard/seen anybody mention Manitoba as a worthy tourist destination for something other than Churchill. But I love me some outdoor hot water, so the Thermea Spa by itself makes me consider it. Throw in the AMG track and the Festival de Voyageur, and I'm now sold. Looks like the festival is only 10 days away. Checking my calendar now. Hmmm.....

You needed to keep heading east into Kenora. Lake of the Woods is unprecedented in beauty. I've lived here all my life. We purposely tell people it sucks, cold, brutal winters, bugs, and no summer. This is how we protect our secrets. But in reality, we have the best backyard nature has to offer. All the best.
