Speaking of James Baldwin, I was reading two of his essays yesterday from this collection I purchased a while back and the essay titled “The Discovery of What It Means to Be an American” was really interesting to me. I’m not sure if you have read it already but I found his discussions on American identity and the juxtaposition with his experiences in Europe and their identity to be very interesting especially when he talks about the different views around art and the artist’s profession. I know you’re a very well traveled person and you’ve also spent time in France as Baldwin did. Rejection is so hard to deal with. It feels like it kinda overtakes every part of what we do as Black creatives. This really was helpful in centering what I have to do and honestly talking about rejection is an excellent idea! Seriously thank you for your vulnerability, it is greatly appreciated.
