Bird is not a guy you check the stats on, you just watch him. He rarely ever held onto the ball more than 3 secs, he made such quick decisions and could get effortless and natural triple doubles. He was a master chess player while everyone was playing checkers around him. The white dude with very average athleticism dominated the NBA from 81' to 87', his 84-87 three year peak is all-time great.
@bAkra60

@@QuestionEverything562 yep he was always 2-3 steps ahead of the opposition. Here was a guy who would tell the opponents the play before hand and still they couldn’t stop it. Even with a bad back he dominated. I remember in his last season against the champions Bulls the last play went to Bird and they had Pippen on him and Jordan came to double team and he still hit the shot. This was the injury riddled Bird. These young cats on this show don’t have a clue!!

If the eras are so drastically different, where is the gap? It’s consistent that great players still play well in any era. In the early 90s, in birds final year, Bird was washed with a crippled back and couldn’t even practice yet he was still averaging 20 10 7 close to 50/40/90. Not hard to imagine that prime bird would have put up his normal numbers with good health. That’s the 90s talent vs a crippled bird. This same trend happens with all super stars with long careers. Kobe was able to put up the same numbers from 97 till the teens up to when he had major injuries. Where was the gap? If the talent improved so much, you would expect to see a decline as it was harder to play. Same thing with Lebron, in fact lebron is even putting up bigger numbers. Where’s the gap in talent improvement? This goes on with all great players, they continue the same success until they end up with a major injury or Father Time does too much damage. Outside of handling the ball Bird is a all around superior basketball player to Luka. Look what Luka is doing to the league. You never see a superstar fall simply due to competition, it’s always external factor. Bird was crippled and still put up numbers on prime athletic Scottie. Please explain to me whwre the gap superior talent?

Defensive liability? Effort matters. Bird has never been accused of no effort. Bird has 3 of the top ICONIC defensive plays of all time. Steal on Detroit ,steal against sixers 81 or 83, block on kareem in 84. How does a dude get 1 steal short of a QUADRUPLE DOUBLE in 3 quarters...3 quarters!! Considered a liability on defense.?? Bird was more of a pest on defense than Kevin Durant

Excellent point by Dubb , Kobe played against some real killers & he was the best ! 7 Finals appearances with 5 rings. He was him , Bird is overrated. How was Bird ever the best when Magic went to 9 Finals in 12yrs 😮

This is why I unsubscribed. These guys remove ALL context from everything & say nothing but stats. Then they discredit stats and act like they know about players from 20, 30, 40 years ago 😂 Bird played against Rodman, Pippen, Dantley, Wilkins, etc.
