Hello Adrian: Thank you for this Gryphon unboxing video. IMHO this equipment is definitely a very sophisticated piece of stero/ audio equipment. Adrian, you didn't like the screws in that beautiful remote control but this isn't an Amazon discount knockoff. If I'm not mistaken that aluminum remote housing is CMC machined from a single block of aluminum. This type of machining isn't cheap but the quality shall remain lo g after the price is forgotten. Please enjoy in good health, TMP FROM N.J.

Congrats on becoming a Gryphon dealer. There’s very few manufacturers that build electronics to this standard. Real cost no object aspirational HIFI. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing the Commander with the Apex mono’s and all I can say is your in for a treat! You already carry lines which pair very nicely with Gryphon such as Wilson Audio and Sonus Faber. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Apex.

Does the pre-amp (Commander) power supply unit have enough clearance in that rack to dissipate heat? I realize that it is not an amp, but I wonder if it should have more clearance than just a centimeter or so.

Very nice Adrian, just curious who your U.S. Gryphon support is because I live in the Miami area and there is really only one Florida dealer whom I think you probably know. I did briefly own the Gryphon Antileon a few years ago but changed it out however I do have a pair of Gryphon Pantheon loudspeakers and wonder how it would mate with the Commander.. I measured how hot each channel was running at idle with a handheld device and remember it averaged 127 degrees F! Great for Toronto winters, brutal down here in summer. Congrats on becoming a dealer.

I saw these beasts in person. They are a sight to hold and while they had not broken in yet, even at low volumes with nowhere near top end speakers, they were sublime. It's like getting into a car, it launches forward and yet you are still in first gear and know there is so much more to come

Due to the amount of heat generated by this pure class A amp up to 210W at 8 ohms and 420 watts at 4 ohms, it cannot be sold in the USA below the Mason Dixon Line (basically below Pennsylvania). Obviously, it can be sold anywhere in Canada.
@net_news8 ай бұрын
really??? Pass have class-A amps with even more wattage and heat. I get it I get it, it's a joke related to weather but there are tons of amps with similar characteristics.
@Mark-rw3kw8 ай бұрын
@@net_news There aren’t many Class A amps that put out that much power as the Apex. Plus, as Adrian noted, most Class A amps do not operate in Class A mode throughout their entire power rating, as they switch over to Class A/B at some point well before they get anywhere near their full power output. There is a reason why the Apex amp in the video is the largest amp I have ever seen, as most of the mass of the amp is to dissipate heat. I have no doubts that the Apex is one of the best sounding amps on the planet (maybe the very best) but people don’t realize that such equipment could in some listening rooms cause the A/C unit to run (typically with background noise from the ducts) that could substantially offset the quality of the audio equipment in many locations.
@net_news8 ай бұрын
@@Mark-rw3kw Boulder have gigantic pure class-A amps also. I thought you were joking bro nice post though.
@Mark-rw3kw8 ай бұрын
@@net_news I was joking, as obviously people everywhere can buy those amps. But I wonder about the amount of heat they generate. Of course, unless I win the lottery, I don't have to worry about this issue. I have seen the Boulder amps, but looks like the Apex is larger. Here is what Boulder says they do to control heat: "Bias operation is Class A to full rated output power. An analog controlled bias circuit continually monitors the output voltage, current draw and load to adjust the bias current as necessary. When a musical transient requiring more bias is detected, the microprocessor will raise the bias much faster than the audio signal to keep the amplifier operating within the Class A window. After the transient has passed it will then gently lower the bias in a decreasing analog manner over a period of 28 seconds until another transient peak is detected. This has the benefit of keeping the 3060 operating in full Class A mode without the drawbacks of massive power consumption, excessive heat generation and the audible steps or “sliding” of other active bias management systems."

Gryphon prices are a complete ripoff but at least they are beautiful well-ended machines. Other high-end brands don't even care about doing a nice device.

High end is expensive for one reason they are hand built because unlike others who mass produce many not 1 or 2 a year
@net_news8 ай бұрын
@@montanausa329 well my sweater is hand made too and I asure you I didn't pay $40k for it. Prices are not related to manufacturing costs in the high-end market. Price is used to position the product in the market.
@sidvicious31298 ай бұрын
@@net_newsactually you are both correct, for boutique products, they are not made in large quantities and there is also a lot of research, and development involved, along with employee cost, like benefits and health insurance which most seem to forget. If a company uses plastics, and another company uses glass or steel vs aluminum, include other nice touches, is the amp truly balanced or partially balanced or crates vs boxes, and what’s the topology class A,A/B or class D because there will be an up charge in manufacturing cost. Most importantly in this hobby is how does the product sound. Any company wants to position themselves properly in their current market for profitability. The high-end is just that, the high-end. With your sweater analogy it’s not a fair comparison because of the technology and manufacturing involved. A single Sweater don’t come shipped in wooden crate and the shipping cost isn’t as high, which is often figured in to cost with some manufacturers depending on weight. The average price of a sweater is from 15-25 dollars, but a designer sweater from Polo Ralph Lauren or other designers could cost you $250 to $5000 or more depending on the designer, no where near 40k, but I get your premise.
