Another part of Samuel Prather's "A Reason to Create" series; in this installment Sam shows how to use Blocks to record up to 32 multitrack sessions with the same routing all within the same Reason file. Blocks is an often overlooked tool that allows for a different song section oriented workflow that works well for most musical formats.

For long sessions I used to use Live Tracks then export to PT. Then I cut out Tracks and started using PT then cut up the session but that didn't address the mixing. I don't mix on Reason that often to have a mix template set up but will give it a shot. I do use Block creatively to sketch out song ideas and use the block for intro, verse, chorus and so on. Thanks for another valuable tip.

Ohhh I need to do this - it makes sense even with home recording work to build up a 'mixing' template with preset settings on EQ, cleaning, saturation, etc and keep that separate from a 'recording template... instead I've been reinventing the mix every song - great tip Samuel. I've used blocks in songs for the usual rapid restructuring of song structure alright which is great for experimentation.

in regards to the option to use block being tucked in the menu, i dont know why they changed it, back in the day, it was enabled by default, its kind of annoying that i have to go in the menu and enable each time i work a new song.

I agree completely. I think hiding it is a mistake. Anybody who didn't want to use it could very easily not use it or turn it off in the old layout. Hopefully they'll have a change of heart
