Few people know that from 1920 to 1962 Austin's beloved Barton Springs was not a place for everyone. “A Reflecting Pool” brings this little-known social history of segregation and integration to light through the voices of those who lived it.
The film played a central role in the renaming of the Austin street running adjacent to the Springs from Robert E. Lee Boulevard to Azie Morton Boulevard. Azie Morton is best known as the first Black U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, but before this film her role in integrating Barton Springs was known by very few.
The film aired on Austin's PBS as part of the Living Springs series and is also part of the permanent offerings at the Barton Springs education center.
