Over the last few weeks, a few different things have happened that have set off various comment threads, in which Internet Randos have arisen to take me to task for continuing to be a boomer about the Jews. Along with some other stuff. As this is clearly an outrage not to be borne, I thought I would I say a few things about all of that here.

As a Christian from a Jewish family (my last name is Bernstein): I can say with no hate in my heart that to be a modern day Jew means you reject Jesus and therefore it’s not a good thing the fact that Jews are so prevalent in positions of power and influence in society. That is not because of envy or hate, that is just a fact - as Christians we should want Christians, who have the Holy Spirit within them, to be in positions of power and influence in society. Does Doug Wilson call call me an “anti-semite” for saying that?

Well said and may God be praised for your faith. Nothing makes me happier than to see a Christian from a Jewish family like yourself, and honestly in my experience the same is true for most Christians! We love Jews, especially Christian Jews, so our criticism is clearly not a racial antisemitic thing. I can’t fathom why Doug oversimplifies all criticism to just dismiss it as “jealously,” that is such a minimization. If Jews really were just “better, smarter, etc.” then everyone else and that’s the only reason they’re over represented in power, then why don’t we ever see Christian Jews like yourself overrepresented? I guess by Doug’s reasoning, only the stupid Jews become Christians? If only we Christians could be as smart as the Christ-hating Jews whose minds are shrouded in darkness, maybe then we could be more successful! Doug’s approach here is absurd.

To be a modern day Jew means no such thing. You are a living example of this. You are a Jew who loves CHRIST. I am a Jew who loves CHRIST. We are not former Jews or from Jewish families. We are Jews, Christian Jews, as Jewish and a Christian Scot is Scottish.

The takeaway from Doug's talk is: do not criticize Jews any more than they deserve. One example, I think, is Alexander Solzhenitsyn, “We cannot state that all Jews are Bolsheviks, but without Jews there would never have been Bolshevism." Is that fair?

This is my personal stance. As a Christian myself, I am not opposed to Jews any more than I am opposed to Buddhists or Hindus or Atheists. It is not a unique aversion. The reason I am against the establishment and maintenance of special ties to Israel involving the massive resources we dump over there to the detriment of our own people here is the same reason I am against it for any other nation (such as Ukraine, for instance). Just as it is both natural and right for a father to exhibit unwavering and uncompromising favor for his own immediate family even when beseeched by other neighboring families in need, our political leaders ought to be firmly focused on securing provision and protection for us citizens first and foremost and promoting the religious ideals which bind us together (i.e. Christianity, in the case of America), and this divine mandate applies doubly so in times of great distress and division such as we are experiencing at this very moment. Instead however, in our darkest hour yet, both our contemporary elite on the left as well as many of the champions in our faction are continuing to demonstrate that they have a foot on both sides of the line that separates us from everyone else in the world, including Jews. If acknowledging that makes me an anti-semite somehow, then call me what you will - I don't care anymore. This country will crumble to dust all the same as a result of our collective unwillingness to strive for a true standard of holiness among the very people that occupy it. _(Edited for grammar and clarity.)_

When I see that Israel takes precedence in my government over all else, at the detriment to my children's future, point it out, and ask for a government that is for me and mine, I am not sinning. When that call out gets me labeled as an anti-semite - unjustly - I get angry, righteously angry... righteous indignation. I have done no wrong, but wrong is done to me. I called that out on the most recent Canon Press video and Canon Press called me a "glowie". Now in this video, you tell me I am unChristian. I have done nothing, but ask for my people to be represented by my government instead of a foreign nation. So I think you and your Canon Press are in the wrong on this issue. Doug, if a good Pharisee is one who would understand the criticism of the whole, and a good Secret service member is one who would understand the criticism of the whole, why isn't a good Jew one who understands the criticism of the whole? I must be missing something. I understand that being Jewish (ethnicity) is an immutable trait, but there is a culture and a religion attached to this "group" and I think the best criticism is this: Nothing about being Jewish guards the Jew from being a sinner. That said, it goes further: Something about being Jewish seems to make the Jew a much more competent sinner (this mirrors some things I believe I've heard you say). I largely agree with you that we ought to win Jews over to Christ :) but I don't think in any way that nullifies the other opinion that there are real issues with "Jews" (as they identify, not as the immutable ethnicity, and not in exactly the same way as all sinners). Why can't we discuss both of these angles at once? I see no contradiction. We are not Jewish nation, and we are not a "Judeo-Christian" nation -- nobody in this nation should welcome "Jewish" influence. We ALL should welcome Christian influence, even when it comes through a Christian Jew (ethnicity).

But then I saw, and I have Candace Owens largely to thank, that anyone who criticised Israel for anything was called an antisemite. And I wondered if the people who are particularly scathing of Israel only had mild-moderate criticisms at first, but because of the disproportionate backlash and name-calling they received, became more and more "radical", for want of a better term. I have felt uncomfortable by some of the things I've seen said rather broadly against Jews. But part of the problem is that nobody was listening to the critics of Israel in the first place. People like Jordan Peterson is willing to interview almost anyone of any stripe, but won't dare interview an "antisemite", he'd rather just call them rats. But I'd love to see an honest dialogue. It's like how your kids are suddenly extra nice to you when they want something from you. I would assume netanyahu would want the United States to be strong if he's going to ask us to fight with her for him and therefore he would prefer a trump but he will absolutely act like whoever's in there is his best friend because that's how you get money in modern society with a managerial state is to kiss up to the boss.

A lot of people are going to vote for Trump/Vance DESPITE their position on Israel. It is not just about you. Its about this "Israel exception to their worldview". You know, like you are anti-interventionist in general, but somehow with an exception for Israel. I have been an anti-islamist forever, having connections to northern Nigeria, and a large part of me does not mind at all that the Jews are humiliating the religion of war right near its heartland. BUT then I have come to realize a few things. (1) Too many of the same people who are all for what Israel is doing, would happily do the same to Christian Russia, Christian Hungary, and Christians in general. (2) The censorship is strong and growing. Too many people who critiqued 'cancel culture' flipped on a dime after Oct 7th, showed themselves to be not at all principled Free Speech advocates. (3) I watched Denis Prager skillfully avoid a reasonable question about the Nakbah and decided to learn more about history. This led me to sympathize with the Arabs, who are not all Muslims. Israel is an apartheid colonizing state, akin to a Crusader State. Is there a temptation to envy the Jews? Yes, no doubt you are right. I sometimes feel the temptation in myself. But there is a whole lot more going on here.

I should explain the thing about Russia. Its not just that they hate Russia for trying to find a new identity in Orthodoxy instead of liberal modernity, not just that they are clearly itching to kill Russia as a geopolitical power, not just that they are obscenely eager to kill Russian men on the battlefield, but most of all that they DO NOT CARE what is the will of the Russians in eastern Ukraine EVEN though they are a majority there. In particular Crimea is overwhelmingly pro-Russian; something like 85%, and still we are going to impose anti-Russian rule, and even a conquest by NATO, upon them? That is nuts. I can think of only one other place where we would do anything like that in this day and age.

You are mistaken about Israel being a colonizing state. That was their original homeland. You are mistaken about it being an apartheid state. There are a large number of ethnic Arabs who are full citizens in Israel, including sitting in Parliament. The same cannot be said for any of the Arab states that surround Israel. The words "colonizer" and "apartheid" are talking points intended to portray Israelis as Europeans (they aren't), and to turn the hatred that is felt for Europeans towards Israel as well.

People say "if you want to know how someone will treat YOU, look at how they treat a PARTICULAR individual or demographic." But I have learned that if you want to know how someone will treat YOU, look at how they treat ANYONE and EVERYONE. For if there is any one individual or demographic in which they hold in contempt, should you give that individual or demographic ANY credit, much more so should you say "you need to apologize for such an attitude", whatever contempt they felt towards the others will be quickly directed at YOU. Inasmuch, it is still possible to love your enemies while also being honest about having enemies and why you have them. In other words, we can love our enemies without flattering or slandering them, for to do either one is to bear false witness.

Watch out, Internet rando here. Pastor Doug, it might serve the purpose of peace to follow the advice you helpfully dispense near the beginning of the video - to paraphrase, your opponent should be able to see and own his position in your argument. If there is a recurring theme in the many dissenting comments when you speak on ethnic issues, it seems to be that you have in fact not accurately characterized the opposing view. It might be helpful to branch out from monologuing on some of these topics and consider hosting some actual thought leaders on the other side, with whom you might have a cordial, dispassionate conversation. Straw men, which surely both sides are guilty of creating, are more easily avoided in this way and the discussion would be more profitable for the listener. All that said, this internet rando disagrees with you on some things but still thanks God for you!

Well, it's not unorthodox to maintain that Jer. 29:7 belongs exclusively to the same people to whom Peter spoke in 1 Pet. 2:11, precisely because our Lord said John 14:6. So, it doesn't matter what political or religious groups try to jockey for power in this world, or even whether or not they do. Because they inevitably will. That's just the way of the world. Yes, Jesus identified the Sanhedrin in John 8:44. But the Sanhedrin aren't the only ones that belonged to that category. They were just the secular power brokers at that time. In the final analysis, Jesus is King. You can't seriously believe that Pol Pot religiously aligned with the Judean power brokers of the first century. No, he was just another human being that tyrannized other human beings. No group - not Germans or Soviets or Hamas or Nero and Romans or whatever get the honor of being the baddest bad guys. Modern Nebuchadnezzars and Pharaohs come and go, regardless of their beliefs. But Jesus always topples tyranny, regardless of the tyrant's personal preferences. Can Tel Aviv and Moscow and London and DC and Saigon, etc, all be seats of tyranny? Sure. None is righteous. The only seat of government that can't be corrupted by tyranny is the Heavenly Jerusalem, where Jesus is enthroned on high. And He always topples earthly tyrants, sooner or later, one way or the other, until He finally comes to wipe them all clean. No human group has a monopoly on earthly tyranny, and all human groups are prone to be tyrannical.
