Serving a quarter of your sentence doesn't automatically entitle you to freedom. You have to be able to abide by the rules or finish serving your prison sentence. She is entitled to nothing but hard time.
@Andrew-rc3vh18 күн бұрын
That would be how it is worded. They have the right to keep you in the prison for the normal time and the tag option is like a bonus if you jump the hoops and are well behaved. Security though overrides everything.

She hasn't legally finished her term. No matter how you put it, she's not being released. She's being granted house arrest.

@Joeblogs99918 күн бұрын
@philvincent5660 the Prof said she warranted release, which is not correct. She was released from prison early to complete the rest of her sentence on a home detention curfew. The law states anyone released under Home Detention Curfew must be tagged and recalled if no alternative solution is available, and that is what happened. .4:36 his rant calling this abuse of justice is dramatic nonsense.

She is not the only one. This has been going on for as long as I have known. Once you are in their system you find you don't have half as many rights as you might imagine. The small print will get you time and again. It's just bit annoying that she is treated as someone special. You could find thousands of examples. Suppose you had to spend a year on remand and then you were found not guilty.

While I agree with your general sentiments and your overall compassionate view, you are not correct in your comments about the procedures here. Home Detention Curfew (HDC) is not a right, the rules for granting it are subjective. Many are refused it for various reasons - some automatically, others based on assessment criteria. The is no automatic entitlement - unlike other rules about release. Together with general rules about eligibility or security, If there are concerns about home conditions, etc, it will be refused or withdrawn.

But not at the expense of others. They may be the heroes of the future in 50 years time. When the last fish is eaten only then will some wake up. They should give the lady a break.

1. Age is irrelevant. She's a terrorist, send her to jail 2. Serco? That's a government problem and that's an abuse. 3. The punishment should fit the crime. The punishments need to be consistent across the board and one group MUST NOT get special treatment.

Professor Wilson, in my opinion you should be knighted and from now on I think I shall refer to you as Sir Professor Wilson every time I feel the need to comment. This lady voluntarily went to the police and handed herself in and, as I understand it was told she would have to wear an ankle or wrist bracelet to mark her whereabouts, she was then told they could not provide an appropriate anklet or bracelet; she offered to finish her sentence under house arrest as she had done before, especially as the prison system is at crisis point with over crowding! Why in heavens name can the British judiciary be so ridiculously punitive to an elderly WOMEN! Guess it’s anybody elderly these days because we have become such a punitive society. Guess I’d better not die on the street or dare to sit down on a kerb for a rest anytime soon!😢

I was in the parallel class in the same age group at the same school as this lady. If others can be allowed house arrest because their limbs are larger than hers, it is discriminatory to return her to jail. This is either age discrimination, disability discrimination, sex discrimination,or all three. Gaie is not a terrorist, whatever you may think of her actions. This must be the first time that a Quaker has been called a terrorist! Part of the problem is outsourcing to a private company. This case should lead to a change in procedures so that such a stupid thing doesn't happen again to someone else. It costs the taxpayer money. Some commentators seem devoid of common sense, let alone compassion.

Good to see you go again on this issue, her treatment to me appears to be obviously unfair. There are some worse injustices around just stop oil in that some Judges have not aloud the jury to hear the reason's why the defendant committed the offence, I believe a number of defendant have been jailed not for committing an offence but for attending meetings were actions were planned. When I heard about some of the cases a few months ago I did not believe that they had occurred in the UK but when I saw the reaction to your video and articles in the Daily Mail it is understandable, it was reported that Judges were biased but I now realise that being human they are no different to many who have made comments online.

Prof. Tim. I agree with every syllable of your rant, 10 times over. I was incensed when I heard about this episode; the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Serco should be ashamed of themselves. It’s my understanding that the tag could not be fitted to her ankle due to a medical condition and they tried to fit the same tag to her wrist. If she does go back into custody she should be accommodated in a decent hotel and waited on hand and foot until this mess is sorted out. Medical issues with elderly persons’ legs are common due to diabetes, problems with the lymphatic system, hypertension, kidney problems and so on. It’s obvious that it will be impossible to fit an ankle tag to some prisoners and so wrist or dual purpose tags should be available as a matter of course. Quoting an organisation called “Canary” “Serco were stripped of their tagging contract in 2019, and fined £23m after it was accused of charging the Government for the electronic monitoring of people who were dead, in jail, or had left the country. It lost its contract in 2013 and was fined £70m and £4m costs for the same reason. It only got the contract back in May 2024.”
