It's on par with the requirements of a Raspberry Pi, and this also has a screen and a set of speakers to power up. I kinda get the idea not to supply a PSU. You need to take into account all various socket types in different countries, current and frequency. You can buy one that fits in your wall at your closest supermarket. And many people already have fast chargers for their phones with high enough specs.

I have already seen this on KZbin running retroarch. If this becomes widely available via sd(surely it will). This thing will be incredible. I was interested in sega astro mini too but the lack of hacking so far and smaller 16:9 screen put me off. The new vertical one seems better though

@TheBlargMarg
@TheBlargMarg 2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention that price is the cost for a PS5 (if you could find one). I feel like the niche product this is at that price, as you said, would just build a Pi cabinet that would be bigger and more accurate to an actual arcade.

To bad the CounterCade is ugly af. There are billions of ways to play these games. The cost for just the egret 2 is 206 after shipping. When you add all the accessories is when it’s costing up to 500. Some people are simply buying to collect like art. Is it worth that much to everyone? No, but either is a1ups or other home arcades. To each his own.

@@eyesofascension8678 again, it’s 206 after being shipped from Japan. A1ups are about the same price and made from cheap wood. It is expensive but in the same ballpark as the others. I’m not saying you’re wrong but I do look at it differently than you. I can see where some think it’s not worth it.

@@randyiron2 I said "up to" $500. I didn't say that was the flat MSRP cost. "Up to" includes accessories, shipping, etc. I also said in my original post that the arcade1up cabinet would be modded not stock. @@MrPotteeMouf Standards were set, then betrayed. A big part of that is millennials and gen Y fresh into the game, and not being accustomed to how things used to be, got caught slipping and allowed developers/publishers to set a new rate year after year and so called collectors lining up at the trough with dollars on hand. Of course the other part of that is the advent of digital distribution, which has done equal damage to good.

@@UToobin75 ah yes, the baby boomer generation is the one that hit the mark. What, with the Atari 2600 going for about 800+ adjusted for inflation or the comparatively tame NES at 400$+ on release, as well as being the generation that had the intellivision that would go for past 1,000$ today. But it's not like things are today, where a console that's complete in box with a number of digital peripherals and completely unique miniature design featuring screen swapping and includes 40 games is sold from about 260-450$ depending on the amount of things bought for it. I'm not ecstatic about paying a large premium either, but at the very least have some understanding about how inflation works and recognize the absolute ridiculous prices of gaming over the years.

I actually bought this for my 8 year old daughter. She is going to be able to utilize one of her all pink dual Hello Kitty monitors vertically with it! Haha. She absolutely loves playing trackball games also. We are hoping one day there will be a way to add more games than what’s included. Will she like the games compared to the Switch? Hell no! It’s just another way for her to play a quick game or two. She will probably use it like she uses the Mario bros Game and watch. I can definitely see it not being for very many people though.

That's because he tried using a USB C Mini Dock marketed specifically for a Nintendo Switch that's expecting a USB C Power Delivery spec device to be plugged into it. He was not using just any normal USB charging brick. The dock probably saw the Mini Arcade and when it didn't communicate what kind of power to send it. It defaulted to a mode that didn't provide enough juice. I guess I sort of understand his confusion but partly it's on him for not understanding the kind of devices he uses on a day to day basis.

Retrogaming was not a waste of money when it was a niche hobby and plenty of stock. Until SNS and their stupid hipsters followers, most were not even born when these games got released, followed the trend. As a result, prices are now insane, all the retroshop in Tokyo got raided and the hobby is now a waste of money and time. 70000Yen for Neogeo in good shape when I got my capcom minicute almost brand new back in 2008 for half of that price. StreetFighter2 Turbo PCB was 6000Yen. The best option now, is getting MiSTer FPGA and call it a day, if you can find one, since they got raided too.

As far as why it costs $200. I think most of the manufacturing costs goes into the rotating screen. I imagine a lot of effort went into tooling and design to make sure the screen moved and functioned just right. Otherwise I don't see much of a difference between this and the Astro City mini. If I had extra money, I wouldn't mind having one of these and a paddle controller. It reminds me of the paddle controller attachment for the DS that I imported from Japan back in the day.

For that money got to 100% agree a PSU should have been included. They look cool but super expensive - shame it's price is so high, unfortunately it will most likely become a bit of a sales flop. I'll stick with both Taito Legends collections on PS2 and the odd PSN download (Ninja Warriors) for my old school Taito arcade fix. ✌️

I've had zero issues RE power with any of my power supplies or even portable batteries. Like you, I got the unit from Japan. Assuming the individual you refer to. About 99 confident I've seen his video I believe he had the non Japan version... Maybe something some how got lost in translation? Pun intended. Still excited to see a hack done on this in the future. Apparently someone did crack it already! Hopefully something will come public soon..

I just bought an iiRcade for nearly the same price as this. Does this feel like I wasted money after buying that. YES. After I play it. It probably going to sit on top of that iiRcade. Lucky money can be made again. Oh I have been trying to get a refund from Gamerocket, but they have like 0 customer service. I actually want to buy it from Strictly Limited instead because you get more for the money.

As everybody else has said. Overpriced for what you get. Maybe if you could hack and add more games then you'll probably get more value use and value out of it. Or if the bundled controllers can be used on other devices?

On the entire the price being to high, I would have to agree I was super interested in picking one up as a collectible item kind of deal to sit on the shelf as I have a massive thing for arcade games but the price is just too much. For one thing I know I'd just end up playing any of the games on the thing on MAME using my arcade stick and for something that's basically going to be an over glorified knickknack sitting on a shelf 99% of the time it just isn't worth picking up. Hell as much as they want for the large bundle deal you can get some of the cheaper arcade PCBs out there for that kind of price.

I like the idea of a rotating screen, but I'll probably just stick with a Picade.

I used a 2amp 5V supply and it seemed to work fine, and my unit says 5V 2A on the bottom. I did notice a bit of lag when using my Astro City stick, assumed it was just how the SBC was handling usb, but I guess the 2.4Amps on the box accounts for peripherals and the 2Amps on the bottom doesn't. Should have checked the box! I'll give it a try with a higher wattage power supply and see if the lag when using a stick is reduced. Still really like it, the rotating screen is cool, but I think its value is just in being a neat way to play these games, if you aren't into the games and the form factor it's definitley going to be a waste of money for you. I like having it on my desk to play a little bit of Tatsujin during breaks at work. Looking forward ot the Astro city V.

@@MarioNuts Yeah. I went ahead and got it with the trackball/spinner controller. You can also use that controller on MAME with an adapter. The controller is really worth it because of that.
