The Shoemaker's House
Located close to downtown in a small town in Ontario, we find this eclectic masterpiece of a house. What started out as a relatively average size home, it had been slowly expanded over the years to create a maze of rooms in what now resembles more of a mansion. There were columns leading to the front door, many different surface types, such as brick and stonework and of course the shoe forms built into parts of the structure as well!
The home looked as though it was broken up into several apartments, with a number 5 on one of the doors, indicating at least that many units.
The home was sold in 2021 to a development company and the current proposal is to build a 7-storey apartment building with 193 units on this and the neighbouring property.

This is truly one unique home. Definitely a shoesmaker was involved in this. I beleive this place is now gone. So many interesting rooms thats for sure. Another great explore JH. Big Hugs 😊😊

Love the green in the introduction room! The stone work of the fireplace is incredible! The reds are just a bit too dark for my taste but it’s not horrible. The second kitchen was awesome! The color was great, the wallpapered cabinets were great, and I loved the curtains! I even liked the bright orange cabinets. Huge basement. Too bad the deck was in such bad shape. Looked like a nice place to hang out. Really enjoyed the upstairs rooms! I loved the layout! Of course I loved the green color! All the outbuildings were interesting. I love the house because it’s eclectic and I feel that I’m eclectic too! Great job!

This house makes me think of someone that loves to reuse salvage materials. It is a fascinating place with all these different textures and objects. I thought it was so interesting! With all the build on’s it makes me think of the Winchester house ! Thank you James

I think the house was built in the late 19th or early 20th century. The woodwork is too ornate for a 1950's house.

It's possible, I am really not too sure of the build date. It does seem as though a lot of the woodwork etc was done by the owner after the initial build. Thank you very much for your comment!!

I don't remember seeing any newspaper dates but I believe the house was only abandoned for about a year judging by the date on the fire extinguisher. Thanks a lot for your comments!!

When you were in the room with the fireplace, I really didn't care for the music. It goes on and on, I wish you didn't play any music. Kitchen 2 was tiny and finally the music stopped, hope it doesn't come back. Very different house, not sure what rooms you were in.

The place was a bit of a maze, wasn't it! Hmm, I quite liked the music when I watched it after it was published. Normally I have an intro with drone work or interludes with photos and music playing but those options weren't available for this video. I'll have to see what other people think about it and will go with popular opinion. Thank you very much for your comment!!
