Happy Mother's Day. I spent the morning cleaning up and washing the furniture on the screened in porch for Mother's day. My last name was Brennan, and yes I make Banana's Foster when ever I can. One of the first places we went in New Orleans was Brennan's restaurant to have Banana's foster. I look forward every week to your Book reviews and have purchased several based on your reviews. Looking forward to find out more about your potting shed.

Yesterday we got together and made the wreaths with the little flower pots that you shared..they turned out great! I've had banana foster , it is really good. I have to wait a whole week to find out about your potting shed, I thought ohh noo what did Daniel do ??!! Happy Mother's Day , hugs Paula

New Orleans is without a doubt one of the most fascinating places in the U.S... I have been all over the world, and our 10 days in New Orleans topped the entire list!!! We had Bananas Foster for the first time, table side at Brennan's... There are four or five other Brennan family restaurants in the French Quarter... all delectable!!! The Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street is exquisite!!! Fourth or fifth generation owned and operated! Royal runs parallel to Bourbon St... What happens on Bourbon Street stays on Bourbon Street...😂😂😂 Mary, you and your Hoot of a husband would ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FRENCH QUARTER....

And, Happy Mother's Day to you Mary! The homes in the book review certainly do capture that New Orleans charm. They are a bit much for my style but a lot of history there. The hurricanes have done so much damage to this town and is really sad. Many people became homeless and I think a lot have moved away. Love that banana foster..it is so yummy. So sorry about your garden shed and patiently await next week. Less than two hours from N.O. ~ next week Mary.

N'awlins the one and only! Unique, the Big Easy, has always found it's roots in Viva la France! This book review brings back a wonderful memory (on Mother's Day weekend 2024): My dear beloved Grandmother Essie treated me to a Brunch at the newly opened Brennen's Restaurant in Buckhead in Atlanta in the 1970s. We had Eggs benedict as the entree and to top it off - the infamous Bananas Foster which was served in a huge gigantic copper chafing dish on the table cart. It was thrilling to see the dish flambéed and served warm. The bananas are sliced lengthwise and slightly grilled then the ingredients added and all cooked well. Some of my favorite restaurants are in N'awlins: Galatoire"s, Cafe du Monde, Commander's Palace, Antoine's, the list goes on and on. The weather is heating up here quickly also. I am heading to Savannah next week with girlfriends to celebrate one's birthday. We are looking forward to dining at The Pink House and touring Telfair Museums (3) in the heart of Savannah. If we are brave we may even take a drive through Bonaventure which has lovely gardens. We are planning on rounding off the day with a rooftop river view hopefully with a breeze, some jazzy music and a nice beverage before heading home. Sending happy Mother's Day wishes to you Mary from Bren in the Golden Isles.

Thank you so much! One of my favorite houses is in Savannah. It’s the Mercer-Williams House. Jim Williams (no matter what one thinks of him personally) was one of the best interior decorators EVER! And yes, Bonaventure is always a must see. I’m jealous.

@@thetartantopiary Oh yes totally agree about Williams! I think 'layered" aptly describes his style of design. Yes the Mercer House is a must see when touring in Savannah. The Pink House had a fire but is now re-opened for dining. You will have to join us sometime. Happy Mothers Day! Hugs Bren

I'm getting this from Thrift Books. It's available for a bit less. Take the idea of Parisian French. Multiply it times 4 and you get Naw Lins. Even though Michigan seems far north, our summers are pretty humid too, thanks perhaps to being surrounded by 5 lakes (the Great Lakes). Summer is my least favorite time of year. No matter how many humid days I endure, I never actually "get used to it." Fall is my lord and savior, with spring and winter trailing it.

Wonderful book review about a magical place (to me) I’ve never been and always wanted to go. I must say, the photographer did an outstanding job, all the books you show us have mouthwatering pictures but for some reason, this one caught my eye more so than the others. It could be that the content was so different. As for your bananas… all you needed was more hooch. Since when do they measure anything in The Big Easy 💕😂💕. Can’t wait for next week and an appearance of your yummy hubby. Take care xxx

In regards to the Bananas Foster, if you cut your butter by half or add more brown sugar the sauce will thicken slightly and be more gooey and caramel like. This gives the bananas more of a glazed consistency and it will taste even better. Also some people add a bit of orange liquor or juice to "gild the lily" slightly. Bon appetite!

The endless development taking place everywhere hurts my heart, because so much of what’s going up is bland, modern, and soulless, in my opinion. New Orleans and San Francisco have always been my favorite cities. I hope New Orleans does a better job of preserving what makes it distinctive and beautiful. On a positive note, the Bananas Foster looks like an excellent idea for the weekend!
@thetartantopiary6 ай бұрын
I hope this book will be an inspiration for thoughtful preservation. I feel your pain and I'm reminded of women who worked tirelessly in Charleston and in Miami in the 1960s & 1970s to save the beautiful antebellum homes and art deco buildings from being destroyed. Here's to them! 🥂And yes, the Bananas Foster was superb.

Do you know Mary I’ve tried bananas Foster once in my life and I really wasn’t that impressed with it lol however I thought if I could tweak it this is what I would do. I would cook the butter sugar vanilla mixture but not at the bananas I would cut those bananas and thick chunks and lay them on the ice cream then pour the cooked mixture over that I think with the vanilla ice cream the fresh chunky cold bananas and then the hot syrup I think that would taste way better. I’m just not a fan of slimy cooked fruit
