AD100 and Elle Decor A-List designer Timothy Corrigan shares his secrets for creating rooms that are elegant and comfortable, luxurious yet livable.
Throughout his career, Corrigan has established a look that is layered and detailed, while always suitable for the way people live today. His distinctive approach encompasses practicality as well as beauty, merging European refinement with California comfort. Here, Corrigan shares homes in which he has defined a new contemporary elegance, including a John Fowler-inspired London townhouse, a Hollywood Regency-inspired Los Angeles Colonial, an art-filled Chicago apartment in the sky, and Corrigan's own Paris pied-à-terre.
Corrigan includes advice throughout on how to adapt classic design principles and traditional forms to make them work for busy modern lives. Between each chapter are instructive interludes in which Corrigan outlines the building blocks of successful decoration, with fundamental topics such as scale and proportion, symmetry, architectural details, and working with color.

Like most of your followers, I love formal elegance, and I strive for it in every room. What I dislike is that some people often present it as stuffy, flashy, or garish...when it's none of those things. For me, every room also needs to be inviting, warm, and comfortable, which makes the process a bit like walking a tightrope. Corrigan is one of the few designers who understands this juxtaposition, which (in my opinion) is why his work is so breathtaking and so wonderful to see on the page.

As a Dutch 🇳🇱 i like it very much to see that you used the Delfts Blauw vases (vazen, in Dutch) as they should be: with tulips (tulpen) in the centre vase. You have a nice house. If you like tulips, you can put the bowls in the ground. This is the last month to do it otherwise it is to cold. Nicest is to put them per group in the ground. Then in the end of April or so, you will have nice tulips in your garden. They must be put three times their diameter deep in the ground.

Thank you so much for introducing me to Brooklinen! I purchased some luxe sateen sheets for my husband's home hospital bed a few months ago. The sheets have made a huge difference in his comfort and his ability to move in the bed easily. I also noticed that his skin is less dry and itchy. I've since purchased both the Marlow and down pillows as well as the lightweight and all season comforters. Since he is recovering from a stroke, comfort, warmth and ease of movement are very important. I'm so grateful to you for introducing your fans to this excellent brand. So lovely Mary. I love Christmas and your home so thoughtfully decorated has put me in the Christmas spirit. Your nativity set is very, very similar to the one we had growing up. My father took what he called “ clinkers” from the coal stove in the house he grew up in and would create a mountain and a hill behind the manger with them. The angel was placed there and the 3 wiseman on their way to the manger. Thank you.

I love your memory. This Nativity scene was purchased in 1964. It was made in Italy. It's the one I grew up with. I can remember sitting by it as it was highlighted by Christmas lights. It was so magical to me.

Mary your beautifully decorated holiday home is scrumptious ! I know you put a lot of time and work into your Christmas decorating. It has taken me forever to take down Fall and create a Christmas cozy look at my house. All of your trees are beautiful. Is the foyer tree new? My 3 year old tree had a section of lights that didn’t work. When hubs set up the tree again only one section of lights worked. I ran to the stores tree shopping and found nothing. I decided to put light strands that I found in a tub, in my garage all over the tree. The light strands in the store were all cool light not the warm lights that were on my tree. It’s been an adventure. I’ve got to look at your video again because I was so focused on your sheets and Christmas decor that I didn’t get into the book you presented. Love your book recommendations! The tree in my foyer is relatively new. I do make a point to get "warm lights". Mine were purchased from Hobby Lobby. They are just beginning to make LED lights that put off a warm hue. The wiring is a bit chunky but at a distance they look fine. Ollny is also a good lighting brand.
