"I won't always be a chauffeur" must be one of the most prophetic lines any charater ever uttered in a TV show.

Tom’s journey from the chauffeur to the son of Grantham’s was very poised and dignified. One which was underlined by his true devotion to Sybil’s memory and genuine love for the family.

I always thought that Tom Branson had the best character development and story arc over the entire series. Allen Leech is a very gifted actor, because he makes it possible to forget that Tom is a fictional character.

It had to be Tom. He loved her like a sister by that point and he always wanted the best for her and in that moment what Mary truly needed was to be confronted with her behaviour and the underlying unhappiness that caused it.

Yeah it was so sad. I agree with you Heather Fellows. The whole cast played their roles perfectly but when the downstairs staff are told of Sybil's death, Robert James - Collier's performance was heartbreaking 💔 as although his character Thomas Barrow is usually so nasty and horrible he was so upset at Sybil's death you can't help but feel so sorry for him!

That's what I love about Lord Grantham. He is the epitome of what true leadership is about. They say you have merely seconds to grab a crowd's attention . In the work I had in my life I've used it many a time and I can tell you it works you can drive a huge crowd in the direction you want with the right words within the right time with the right actions😊

I agree to an extent, certainly in season 5 they seemed to have written him into a corner and the only way to end the season was for him to leave for America. When he came back he came back with a renewed energy and it's impossible to imagine any other character than him in the Mary/Henry storyline. Certainly no other character could've spoken to Mary the way Tom does in that season.

@BewildaJane The Nazis (literally the National Socialist Party) were Leftist Socialists. Of course the Left doesn't find them convenient to acknowledge as their own anymore. Mainly because they failed though, not because of anything they did. To the Left, the only unforgivable offense, is to lose power.
