it's strange how the aristocracy don't mind admitting the worst things as long as it sounds polite. amelia could just have protested that they both love isobel....but i guess back then people really didn't want to lie since their reputation meant so much...not like nowadays 🙂

Maggie Smith is golden! Her sarcasm is on point.

I do so dislike how they made away with the serious parts of the show in favour for a dilly dally feel good show: Case in point Bates being able to lift up Anna. What a contrast to how his limp was portraied in the first season.

Love those old candlestick phones. I actually have two, one of which is genuine (sadly it probably doesn’t work)! The other is a more modern phone from the 70s or 80s designed to LOOK like a candlestick phone.

Maggie Smith can kill any movie with a 5 minute appearance. Because those are the minutes you will remember.

I'm surprised the Dowager Countess doesn't also ask: "What is a job?" I loved the series very much, although it was actually an inhuman time. The British privileged ones with their servant slaves.

I dont understand why Edith never told Mary she knew about Mr. Pamuk. She got confirmation about it a few hours earlier! Why not use that to make Mary stop bullying her? I really don't understand. Edith wasn't afraid of conflict. She always confronted or reprimanded Mary. Edith had the biggest weapon and never used it (correctly) 😒

Laura Carmichael does so well to keep it together in that first scene. Passing off what looked to be developing into a fairly catastrophic break of character as a smile of exasperation in-character. Oscar-worthy 😂

I’m so glad Edith finally got her happy ending especially after getting left at the alter and that one guy from the newspaper going missing

Just realized she never kissed Edith... Ouch. Always being sidelined and rejected by her family, but at the end she will surprise them all. At least, Martha showed kindness towards Edith at the end.

I love how different her wedding dress/head dress is from her first wedding ceremony. When she was marrying sir anthony, her dress was very similar to that of Mary's dress. The headdress was the exact same. Edith was still trying to emalute a "lady" as she sees in the image of Mary, but never herself. It was heartbreaking that she was jilted at the altar, but, as seen by the styling choices, Edith wasn't being true to herself. On her wedding with Bertie, she looks completely different. She had struggled and changed a lot since her almost wedding with Sir Anthony. She has grown, matured and finally got the self confidence she deserves. She now walks down the altar not as "what a lady should be", but as Edith. That was years ago and it still makes me so happy 😊

The more Edith became independent and free ,the more she started to gain confidence and stand up for herself. The editor, her grandmother and to Mary. If this were season 1, Edith would have just accepted it . It just feels soo good to see her call out Mary. May be a bit out of place but may be Fellowes could have put in a punch or two from Edith. Take that Lady Mary 👊 You think you are so better 👊

No one in history spoke better English than Maggie Smith. Every sentence is pure literature. Cannot imagine that during the filming she ever broke a little wind. And if she did, it must have sounded coming from her upper class lips. Isn't there anyone in the world who doesn't adore her? 🥰
