I missed these type of School Buses! Those were the sound of my childhood days!
@christophercrafter2609 Жыл бұрын
1988 was the big year for thousands of school districts because many switched from sticks to automatics and got these kinds of buses. I'm glad I grew up back in the 1980s when these were kings of the road.

I love this 7.3L V8 Engine on that bus. It was been used to be one of my favorite Bluebird International that I missed riding in Florida.

Me to I loved driving these buses I bought 2 at auction a 88 like this one and a 95 3800 style international with the dt408 witch is my favorite dt navistar engine but if you want reliability get a international with the 7.3 idi they will survive the apocalypse there was a short bus just like this one that the whole rear of the bus was solid black from it smoking like hell but she still ran hard until it was retired
@iansimpkins2570 Жыл бұрын
My school district retired the gassers and went to these IH diesels in the late 80’s. I hated them because they stunk bad and were so loud you couldn’t do anything on the bus but sit there. Ours had the Allisons too but they were geared a lot higher than this. This racket does bring back memories though.

This bus either got the International 9.0L, 7.3 IDI or the 6.9 IDI. I wish I could travel back in time to hear these engines run.

We used to have a couple of these busses when i was in elementary and middle school here in southern MI. They used them as "sub busses" when the TC2000 flatnoses broke down. These older ones sounded so frickin mean and seemed to scoot along damn good.
@nicklikesradio Жыл бұрын
They can get up and go. They don't do well with a 6.9 or 7.3 idi unless they're geared really low like this one. Some of them came with a dt360 or dt466 mechanical inline 6 that moved them better.
@redneck400m3 Жыл бұрын
@@nicklikesradio Pretty sure they were IDI's as they sounded exactly like these. The DT's ive driven as an adult in small dump trucks didnt have that aggressive sound. Its hard to remember but IIRC they sounded pretty strung out going down the road so id assume they were geared pretty low.

My favorite of them was 7033 it had the 9.0 idi loud as hell but these old 7.3 and 9.0 idi where tanks but gutless and would make you deaf extremely reliable could bounce off the governor all day every day for years all 3 of those buses had over 1million miles on them. And they would run to oblivion the wouldn't die many had over 1 million miles on original engines witch is amazing for how hard they are ran they allison trans were decent but annoying cant ever decide what gear they want and jerk the hell out of you especially with the 9.0 idi and the GM 366 big block when it kicks down you feel it but your barely over a brisk running speed. The 7.3 and 9.0 where loud as hell that is for sure you could hear them from miles away screaming on the governor anyone who lives in sc where they where used know what I mean
