NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the North Sea on Friday (12 October 2018), together with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Curtis Scaparrotti.
The USS Truman is en route to participate in NATO’s biggest exercise in years, Trident Juncture 2018, joining around sixty other ships from across the Alliance.

Used to have to go up on flight deck to pick up special material. I latched my hand on the flight deck petty officer’s belt and did not let go. This video is great, but can not describe flight ops adequately. . In addition to the movement and noise, there is often a slick deck, the smell, and of course 20 - 30 mph wind hammering you, without end. Oh yeah, those guys NEVER work just a 12 hour day either.

I love in this video how the USS Harry S. Truman CVN-75 sailed to Norway in October to November of 2018! It's Air Wing was Carrier Air Wing One that was a veteran of sailing to Norway on the USS America CVA-66 in 1991. The difference however between 1991 and 2018 is that CVW-1 in 1991 had Boeing F/A-18 Hornets, Northrop Grumman F-14 Tomcats, Northrop Grumman A-6 Intruders, Northrop Grumman EA-6 Prowlers, Lockheed Martin S-3 Vikings, Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeyes, Northrop Grumman C-2 Greyhounds, and Sikorsky SH-3 Sea Kings. In 2018 CVW-1 had Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightnings, Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets, Boeing EA-18 Growlers, Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeyes, Northrop Grumman C-2 Greyhounds, Boeing V-22 Ospreys, and Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawks. And since the two Aircraft Carriers USS America and USS Harry S. Truman went to Norway with a whole lot of planes and helicopters, it looks like to me that Disney/Pixar's Planes is helping Disney's Frozen in some way. Because #1 Disney/Pixar's Planes had an Aircraft Carrier in the movie and #2 it looks like the Pixar movie Planes is providing close air support for the Disney movie Frozen as teamwork! Imagine the main character of Disney/Pixar's Planes whose name is Dusty Crophopper the Air Tractor AT-502 crop duster plane providing close air support for Queen Elsa and Princess Anna! Interesting huh? Thanks!

1980s era C-2A and if it were to be replaced by a jet aircraft working alongside a V-22 Osprey it's likely to be a B717 DC-9 family or B737 max 7 B737 family because there are pictures in the Boeing archives with a DC-9 & B737 taking off from a super carrier.

What is that bar that is placed on the back of the front wheel just before takeoff? It just falls off as the jet cruises down the deck.
@chrismaggio7879
@chrismaggio7879 3 жыл бұрын
That red/white thing is the holdback bar... and that's exactly what it does. It holds the aircraft back when it's in full power! The bar in front of the nose wheel is connected to the shuttle of the catapult (the only part of the catapult system that sticks above deck) It's a tug of war between the plane and the holdback bar. Until the catapult fire button is pressed it could sit there all day and hold the plane in place. The catapult overpowers the hold back bar and the plane shoots forward. The holdback bar is hooked into it's own little notch and stays behind for another use. Hope that helps.

@@d.cypher2920 Correct, That JBD keeps any heat and debris from pummeling the following aircraft or crew members behind it, and has a salt water system running through it which helps keep it cool (imagine how hot it would be after sitting behind two lit jet engines!) to prevent it from warping as well as to make it safe for a rubber tired aircraft to roll onto it for the next launch, and remember the deck crew have to run across that metal panel as well.

They are crewmen (green shirts) who are in communication with multiple other stations of the catapult system (steam charging panel, center bubble, etc) They collect and distribute info such as the aircraft number, type, weight, etc, and ensure that the catapult setting is appropriate for the launch cycle. Too much power on a lighter plane, or not enough power on a heavier aircraft could both spell disaster! You will see a green shirt run up to them with a box in both hands with numbers displayed. This is the weight of that particular aircraft (confirmed and adjusted by the pilot before the aircraft is even hooked up). That weight is shown to center deck, they give the weight to the guys below who set the cat shot pressure.
